About time, someone finally shows how to launch the car I’ve been telling people that for years. I don’t have a UA-cam platform like you do I would’ve did this video a long time ago watching a journalist mess up launches over and over and over again it’s crazy.
I’m a Mustang guy and I’ve beaten a couple of hellcats and higher horsepower cars because of them using the stock tires. My car is n/a. Trust me this guy is speaking the truth
Great information video for people not used to high HP cars. Having the right tire setup for your car is critical. Just having gobs of HP does not win races, and even AWD cars have trouble with traction when you get in the 600hp range. Spend the money on the tires!
It's about freaking time someone talks about this issue. I've been saying that for years. The stock tires are complete garbage. And I had the summer tires that cost extra they are garbage. I have a 19 red eye wide body Challenger . I put the Toyo r888r 325 30 20 no issues with rubbing. I ran the Mickey Thompson Street SS they are garbage they do not last. The Toyo hook much better. And you don't get that high speed wobble. The car feels planted at high speeds. And you don't need to do a big burnout to warm them up just a couple seconds of burning out. literally that's it. Then you're good to go. Night and day difference with good tires I tell everybody who I see with a hellcat change your tires.
I wrote a book about this above you, but I also have a '19 REWBHC Challenger. Before this one I had an '18 HC Challenger I bought new as well. I learned real quick just how bad those pirellis were on that '18, and they were the AS version. I swapped them out for a set of Conti Extreme Contact DWS 06's and I was absolutely stunned at just how much better they were. When I finally found a new REWBHC with the colors and options I wanted, it just happened to have the Pirelli Summer Tire option. I thought I would see if they were better, but I didn't have high hopes. Well, as you know, they are total SH*T too! They were marginally better than the AS version at BEST. I already had some custom 3-piece 20x11 forged wheels ordered from Velgen before I even took possession of it, but I still had to wait a couple months for them. Once those showed up, I mounted a set of 315/35ZR20 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Summer tires on them and it was like a revelation once I put them on. It really became a totally different car! You still had to roll into the throttle, but could do it so much faster. It became a LOT safer to drive it hard. Like you, I tell all the people I talk to on HC forums, etc. that own a HC/HCRE/Demon that there are 3 mods you should ABSOLUTELY do to these cars ASAP: 1. Get a set of Michelin PS 4s or Continental Extreme Contact tires (preferably the summer tire version of them depending on where you live). The factory WB size is 305/35ZR20 square, but I tell everyone to go up to a set of 315/35ZR20's, as they fit with ZERO issues and give you a larger contact patch. *They also fill the wheel wells much better, and if you have a 3.09 rear end these will make your effective gear ratio taller which should help reduce wheelspin.* 2. Swap out ALL of the Brembo pads, which are THE dustiest f-ing pads I have EVER seen, for a set of Powerstop Z26 pads (or Z23 if you don't race the car). 3. Add the Per4mance Development Billet or DIRS differential brace. I have yet to meet a single Hellcat owner that was sorry that they did any of these 3 things.
So funny you made this video. 3 Years ago when i got my hellcat, i knew the all seasons 275s were a joke. Ive drag raced cars for years and I tried to race on the stock tires for about 2 months or so and when i was losing to bolt on GTs on the street I knew Mickey Thompsons were in my future. I grabbed a drag pack andd left it stock. I wrecked so many people who claimed they were hellcat killers. They swore I was pullied or had nitrous. All I did was get some good tires and wheels. So many butthurt people when they found out they raced a Hellcat in it's true form and the power it can put down. I made a video on my channel that was most of the races I could film and put together. I ran a 10.6 @ 129 on a stock hellcat with a drag pack 1.56 60' with a 2.62 gear. Stock down to the air filter.
Unless you're making a dramatic size change or going with a race compound, a tire was never considered a mod. But people gotta move that goal post so it makes getting beat by a boat 🚢 more palatable.
Yes sir tires are number 1 or get used to rolling clouds spinning and losing or being taken for a ride across 3 lanes when frankly it’s unsafe. You should be smoking these cars with less power with ease but you’re not with stock tires even from a roll. I’ve had my car since 16 and also watched many people start out with this platform to include steph from day 1. The man knows what he’s talking about. Good video brother 👍🏻

Would you be I the position to test a couple of Drag Radials/Performance Tires? I have a 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody and I'm currently running 325/35/20 Toyo Proxes R888R ($450 each). I had the Nitto NT555R, and liked those...but that was on my 392. I've seen other UA-cam pages test the major (3) that you mentioned at the 6:26 mark (throw the Atturo AZ850's in the mix)...but never a person with a Driver Mod such as yourself. It'll be great content!
I agree but disagree. We have to be understanding that all Hellcat owners are new to Hellcat at some point. (Including you years ago doing 0-60 pulls in your Hellcat before the mods) If a person just got their car, we have to expect them to do runs immediately before buying tires. But great content my friend. Love the channel.
Don't know why Dodge decided to go to the worst high performance tire company known to man and use them for the Hellcat. All they're good for are burnouts
I've been trying to tell people this for years. Your tires are the ONLY thing that touches the ground on your car. They are literally EVERYTHING when it comes to how your car performs. You could have the most powerful HC out there with the beefiest drivetrain and a trick suspension, but it means nothing if your tires are garbage. The Pirellis that come stock on the Redeye or Hellcat Challenger and Charger are 100% complete trash, summer or all-season version makes no difference. *To illustrate just how bad they are, I can tell you from actual experience that the ALL SEASON versions of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 or Continental Extreme Contact launch TWICE AS GOOD AS THE SUMMER PERFORMANCE PIRELLI ZERO factory tires!* Not only do you get 2X more traction in a launch, but these two tires are better in every other way too. They turn better, ride quieter, ride smoother, they don't track lines and differences in texture/height in the pavement as much, they stop much faster, and they perform in the rain so much better. There is not one area that the Pirelli does better in, not a single one. Then once you have a set of great all-season tires, it's time to buy the summer performance version of the same tire. Mount them on some nice custom forged wheels or even the factory wheels and you will be amazed at how much better they do than even the top all-seasons! All of a sudden, you can actually use the last 1/3 of the gas pedal's travel! LOL
Then, when you are ready to get real serious and go to the drag strip, that's when you need to pony up for a drag pack set of wheels and tires. For a widebody HC like mine you should get a pair of front wheels that are either skinnies or half-skinnies in a 20" diameter to clear the massive brakes, and a matching set of rears in a 17x11 or 18x11 size. In my case, because my car makes right at 1000 wheel horsepower and the entire drivetrain and suspension has been upgraded, I went with a 17x11 single beadlock in the rear. This was necessary because the tires were getting spun on the wheel when launched hard at the track. Mount up a pair of 245/45ZR20 MT Street Comp tires on the new 20x8 front wheels, and a pair of 315/50R17 MT ET Street R's on the rears and be ready to be amazed. It will feel like a totally new car with near double the power because you can finally use all that HP.
