Ian Hubert, aka MrDodobird, is at Corridor today! He hung out all day filming React, checking out our Virtual Production setup, and now it's time to sit down at the end of the day and have a casual conversation. Enjoy!

No way!!!! Ian is a living legend. Anyone who has not seen his content I would highly recommend it. I can't wait for episode 2 of his project.
Edit: He is the reason I have become so invested into improving at Blender
"I can't wait for episode 2..."
Oh, but you will.
Is Blender worth it if you want a job in the industry or is it just for individuals who freelance??
@@kangtheconqueror8359 simply put it this way. Maya is currently industry standard for jobs such as a Game artist and blender is currently more used in the Freelance community. However blender is on a fast track to becoming the industry standard within I would say the next 5 years maybe even sooner, because of the sponsorships they have now and will be getting.
@@kangtheconqueror8359 If you are a complete beginner, it doesn't matter what program you use. Start with Blender. You'll learn Maya super easily if you know Blender already.
@@robinsquares that is a brilliant point. They both work similar enough learning one will help you learn the other, the main difference can be just the UI
"I don't want to turn this episode into an AI episode"
You need to redo this podcast. And actually talk about the things that Ian excels at. Him dropping how to de-light 3D-scans with an HDRI was insane. But it was a shame that it was only real gem of information you managed to get out of him in the podcast.
This was my favorite episode so far!
I swear if there was a percentage of how much Ian was able to talk this podcast it would be less than 15% compared to everyone else lmao
exactly. its such a waste
yeah sort of a bummer I came here to listen to him
Right ?! Beardy would NOT shut it
Dang, I'm only a few minutes in and this was on my mind already =\
True. Came for Ian Hubert, got bored with small talk and him barely getting a chance to speak. Like plonking him on the screen like clickbait while they forget the camera is rolling and talk whatever. I like these guys but talk of a wasted opportunity. NONE of their Ian videos have "enough" content to be worth it. Sometimes other VFX reactions, or here he's invited specially and still random talk.
Sounds like Ian and Peter, need to get in the next Creator Clash
that would be amaaaazing
Yes, more Ian Hubert stuff! I’ve been missing his UA-cam uploads since I can’t exactly afford Patreon at the moment, but I’m glad to see this.
I'm so excited for this episode!! I gotta say, these Corridor Cast videos don't get enough love. Thank you for taking the time to make these!
You guys need to show the viewers here on UA-cam what's being shared around the couch. Just edit the photo in after you're done recording
What a great episode, super interesting with Ian and the AI topic
Open Blender and try not thinking about Ian Hubert, "how can I make stuff that cool?"
Just photo scan everything. Or model it.
Great episode. Some very interesting topics discussed. Good to see Ian on the show too.
I've started listening to the podcast while I'm working on VFX and it makes me feel like you're my coworkers and I love it.
Corridor and Ian are some of my biggest inspirations.
Literally doing stuff in 3DS now and using methods I've learned from Ian to do archviz when I see this upload. Absolutely fantastic. You guys just keep delivering fantastic content!
So you can apply Blender things in 3DS Max?
@@kangtheconqueror8359 yeah, the polygon modelling aspect is pretty much same thing. You just have slightly different ways of doing those same things.
My favorite artist right now! True inspiration!
"Discovering humanity is the difference between content and art" (paraphrased) was the gem among gems in this chat
yooooo Ian is a hero to us blender guys..
That AI entertainment generator is basically the Jane program from Ender's Game :D
On the topic of AI and originality: I don’t make something to make the most original film, I make something I hope will resonate with someone. I want to feel the author through the art. I don’t think I will ever get to the point where I feel an AI relates with my experience as a human.
just decided to do the most ambitious render ever and I got discouraged but looking at ians render and stuff I got some hope
love you guys
TF.N Fan Film Forum shout out made me so happy, sure I learnt more on that forum than on my university Film and Moving Image Production degree.
26:02 he said my name!
Niko: "That's how we like to do things at corridor"
Immediately flashes of Adrian broking his collar bone or shoulder from jumping over a desk..
Holy shit. This entire episode is life. Thank you.
Corridor Crew and cast is one of the only things I watch religiously on UA-cam. One day a point is going to come where I trade my UA-cam premium account with no adds for a Corridor subscription just to rewatch all the content and see what I missed. Great to have on in the background too. Also: this episodes banter made me laugh more than usual.
Using seed images really helps the artist retain a lot of control. I have been doing a lot of research on creating viable seed images to be used for less refined machine learning scripts such as Disco Diffusion.
I have also been able to batch create post apocalyptic building textures to utilize Ian Hubert style.
Very fun episode!
Corridor and Ian need to collab for a video, I feel like he's so dying to get his hands on a proper team, and some equipment like Sam's unreal live action setup.
And who doesn't love Ian.
one of the Best Podcast I ever watched
53:30 I'm glad Wren and I have had the same experience of watching that Gnome video and thinking "Really?! This is the best way to do this?? Ugh, fine."
Hahaha right???
Man, I watched so much of your content and its all great, but you guys just shooting the shit is my favourite now. Thats the kind of conversation I was having with my best friend in school, (minus the VFX specific stuff), just wondering about stuff and the future and being in awe or in terror...
OMGGGGGGGGG Ian is my hero!!!!!!
Ian's HDRI de-lighting trick had me sitting at my computer in shock
Can Ian make a tutorial about the HDRi inverting the 3D scan to make the balance texture object?
Also can we see an episode where Sam mess with the Russian 3D Scan thing
It's pretty straight forward from what he's describing. Using the HDRI on a grey version of your model will give you the same lighting values that are baked into your Scan texture. Then it's just a case of subtracting the lighter and adding to the darker spots to give yo a more evenly lit scan.
@@Nurolight I’m way more of a visual learner like your saying exactly what I need to do, but my brain doesn’t make words into actions on what need to do in the software. But once I see it it’s stuck in my brain forever
@@Andybowbandy I'm pretty sure he already made a tutorial about it on his Patreon.
@@DECODEDVFX ah that makes since to bad I don’t have mons to pay for that knowledge one day tho. Thanks for the heads up on where that info is at
Duality! Haha, I was 7 years old when Duality came out, and I'm turning 29 next month, and I still remember that film. I remember putting a screenshot of Duality on some birthday thank-you cards when I was like 9 or 10! I actually found the original Word document that had it not too long ago. Found it on a buried hard drive... Oh and Ryan Wieber and RvD 1 and 2. THAT defined my childhood.
Ian Hubert is a genius seriously!
Promptmasters should be the next Corridor short film
What would be nice is, instead of the Corridor logo in the top right, is a wide camera so we know where everyone is sat in relation to everyone else. When Wren and Sam look off to a certain direction is weird to figure out who they're facing and what they're looking at. If there was a wide shot, even a GoPro in the corner of the room, it would help orientate the viewer a bit.
Sorry if that sounds super picky. I love these podcasts. Just a thought really. Love you guys.
very insightful
The best guest ever
Awesome episode. Man this AI art conversation is so fascinating. I think it's exciting to use for filler art or environments...but it's a really slippery slope. We aren't desensitized by it yet, but soon it will be common place. Who's the artist? Who's the writer? The blurring is scary.
I teach art and design with a focus on the craft of the image and am currently researching the potential of AI image generation to explore the uncanny valley of the unreal. Despite being reticent about the process, what you said about 'the prompt is the art' is exactly what I think is worth focusing on!
Yes! There we go! This is my fav podcast I can listen to while I work
DUALITY! @57:36 Literally my favorite TFN fan film of all time!!
44:28 I haven't seen the shot, but I wonder if they considered using a mirror on the ground. It's a really cool way to get an angle that's lower than the floor.
this is a really good podcast
Boy am I hella glad I heard that last 60 seconds or so! Fuuuuusion, baby! 😍😍😍😍😍
Awesome
Can Sam just share his parts list with us?!
Loving the episode. Doesn't seem like it's on Spotify yet though!
57:30 to 59:50 Wren sitting there like what the fuck are they talking about. Guys I am still here, hellooo!
In just a few years, we will have a holodeck-style natural language IDE for interactive experiences
True! I Came to see Ian :D
25:12 "It's gonna be like a dream!" A Dynamo Dream...
How about you share that parts list and the process of hooking it up for that virtual production setup? That would be sweet.
Ian's great, you should have him on again.
i dont even heared to the podcast yet but thx for chosing this topic xd
I cling to the same hope Wren was talking about.. Tendancy to look for the human touch on content.
Besides, wouldn't a show perfectly crafted for you with a 100% recommendation score be too comfortable? What about a different movie that might oppose your vision and teaches you a new perspective.
How many people buying Ikea over hand crafted furniture? Look at what happened to the photography industry.
@@daveweinstock I can see the trend, I just hope there are still people who keep buying the hand crafted furniture
I watched one of his old videos and there’s a spoof of Anakin Vs Kenobi fight and his jar reminds me of it lol
Great podcast so far - love the AI ones - but I’m halfway through the pod and have no clue who the guest is 😅😂
The thing you guys talked about in 55:00 I also did that it's so cool 😎 I use blender
So, with Midjourney, you can actually get insanely in-depth, and put things in your prompts like aperture, focal length, type of shot, all of that stuff. I’ve got a couple really awesome images I’ve generated of the New York Skyline that look almost photorealistic right from the point of generation. Try this…
“Drone shot of Los Angeles, medium shot, natural lighting, shot on fujifilm, detailed and realistic environment, cinematic --v 4 --ar 2:1”
I like Ian style always..
Came here for Ian. You guys are kinda cool too, I guess.
Them talking about green screen when Ian has done exactly that and more, why not ask him!!
Hey Ian :)
Lol damn I wanted to hear about wren’s first film
Nvm
7:30 hope you guys make a video about it
29:45 damn I just got called a tool by Wren ):
The discussions towards the middle of the episode really ring true for me too (a 2d animator)
I love your podcast!
The real problem with the demoralizing nature of being immediately compared with everyone on the planet is that the initial drive to beat out the competition, no matter how fierce, often runs up against the very real barrier of wealth inequality. There are some creative comparative ventures that are completely distorted by people with a starting budget well outside of the average leading to a lot of young artists being turned off from continuing due to disillusionment at the reality of that insurmountable barrier. It's always been the case that that gap existed, but this is the first generation of artists where it is an inescapable truth.
Sorry to go all political/economic despair, but I feel like it needed to be pointed out. Art is still worth doing.
Preach! No need to apologize
This is super important to be aware of and I’m glad you made this comment good sir. It’s a harsh reality in a lot of aspects of life, not just art, and I feel alot of young folks (including myself) have experienced this. But I think that’s what makes channels like Ian’s and Corridors so crucial and awesome as they show us that you can do some really cool stuff on a smaller budget and succeed.
OUUUUUUUUUUUUUU YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Felt bad for wren in this one-felt like he was constantly being let out of the conversation! Obviously it happens sometimes, but still kinda a bummer to see from the boys 😩
Totally Agree
Not a big deal!!
you can actually remap textures from one mesh to the other in C4D as well
Ian vs Peter for the next Iron Artist!
Wait, Peter is in India RIGHT NOW?? I gotta check this out.
Actually one of the best podcasts I've seen in a while
bro Im bout to eat some beans mang
The camera can go bellow the floor, you just a need to replace the floor with a mirror and flip the camera upside down.
We need more lzy tutorial 🙂🙂🙂
Yup, not ashamed to admit, clicked because of Ian...
What happened to the reaction video they made about Ian's work?
I can't find it anymore
Try Machine Whisperer! Sounds better than Prompt Master hehe...
I can't get around the Idea that you guys have Ian Hubert there and basically you guys didn't ask him questions we might be interesting to know, not to mention he basically didn't speak much. For a moment I felt it was a podcasts of corridor Crew without guess. Just a feedback
Woah. Bryce3D. That takes me WAY back.
You guys should read The Muller Fokker Effect by John Sladek
extremely intelligent conversation. Very cynical, funny, spot on, important. If you're in a hurry, start at "Mid-Journey..."
Oh wow, Ian was in this podacst?
wish Ian got to talk more
I'm a simple man. I see Ian and I upvote.
I see in your future... a corridor short where they ask an AI to make the darkest batman.
Anyone got a link to the 'Duality' thing that Niko was watching? I mean in the ancient troves of the internet haha
I also have all of those star wars books.... It is very sad
It's so difficult to see Ian in a clip that's 1.40 hr. He's the King of Lazy Tutorials. I'm afraid that i'm goin to burn for "overlearning".
Did Ian sign the wall?
Is there a reason this one is not on Spotify yet? 😁
Imagine the AI dungeon stories + The art AI
Where can i see the duality video?
The tilted camera on Ian and Niko really bothers me for some reason
Amazing podcast tho, as always!
Quote of the podcast... "Let it be demoralising, thats good - get demoralised."
