  • This is my guitar cover of The Beginning Of The End Of Extraction solo by Fredrik Thordendal, which was supposed to be part of my 33:33 cover. Rhythm guitars were double-tracked.

    Meshuggah is one of the biggest influences throughout my musical journey. Especially my guitar playing was strongly shaped by them, and my passion for heavier music grew immensely over the years. That's why I dedicate this channel mainly to this fantastic band that has fascinated and inspired me all this time.

      I don't think so, it's so hard to learn and remember, especially this almost atonal, chromatic stuff. On top of that, I can't recreate what he did with the 33 breath controller.

      @@Haekki Part of that solo section is by Mats Oberg, so that is going to be real tough to play on the guitar. I have been meaning to talk to him about it and how his keyboard solo parts could possibly be played on guitar, but I'm too big of a chicken shit. I have a way of contacting him about it; man I need to get off my ass. I have a 33, but it's the MIDI digital one that Johan Haake made, not the one that Johan made that Fredrik used on this album. Still, no matter what... You rule!

      You mean parts of my video were played by Mats? I thought he comes in with the following track "The Executive Furies of the Robot Lord of Death". I know he can phrase his leads like a guitar player, "Walk Here" from [schack tati] is a good example I think. And wow, can you tell me about your 33 pedal? Is there a major difference between yours and the original one besides the connection? And what synths/effects/parameters are you controlling with it? If you ever want to sell it, you can count on me :D EDIT: I wouldn't even dare to try to cover the more "alien" sounding leads from this album. Fredrik did the effects on his leads after recording them until they felt right to him. At least I think he re-amped his takes and handled the controller while doing so, both playing and manipulating the leads at the same time sounds impossible to me.

      @@Haekki You are absolutely correct and I came back here to correct myself regarding 'Extraction' vs 'Furies'. Since the Furies keyboard solo follows Extraction I just blended them together and was assuming you were going to play that as well. Anyway, it was my mistake, and you already corrected me. Because you are the man!
      Yeah, Mats is a master of phrasing organically like a guitar or voice. Love his playing.
      It's a MIDI controller with a joystick and breath controller built in. This isn't me, but mine is exactly as this one, or almost exactly since I think he made at least two separate runs and there might be a small difference between them. ua-cam.com/video/6V8sTfWiSRg/v-deo.html If I am not mistaken, the original '33' was not MIDI and was in a rackmount sized box. The 33s like mine and the gentleman in the video needed to have something like a Nord Micro Modular or Nord Modular to work as Johan Haake intended. You couldn't get good latency performance at the time with something like a Pod XT for example. (Times have changed, eh?) MIDI note changes were too slow. (It's been decades, I can't remember every detail, but that's basically correct) I'll never sell mine. I think if you search the net you might find someone that has one to sell. I would guess that they don't sell for more than what they sold for originally since its such a niche item though obviously exceedingly rare since like... Better yet,
      web.archive.org/web/20080915183938/www.33.hemsida.net/
      That is Johan's old site dedicated to the '33' he made for Fredrik and the ones he made for 'us', the lucky knuckleheads, that were in the right place at the right time with the right amount of SEK. Using the '33' to make wild sounds isn't difficult, but controlling them can be, but I bet if any of us put some actual effort it wouldn't be that bad, just like any instrument it's daunting at first. Anyway, I hope you get your hands on one. One of these days I need to take mine out and see if I can borrow my friends Axe FX and do some noodlin'. I'm sadly Missing Time for that.

    If you're ever bored and want something new to try, I got one. Ive always prefered the mix and the guitar tone of the blue 'Nothing' album but dont prefer the remixed vocals on it. If you're able to somehow keep that blue remastered mix but replace the vocals with the original from the orange version, that would be gods work

      @@Haekki I think he already finished SNW2 and is working on SNW3.33 now... Yeah, I'm not going to live forever, and I'm trying my best to hold on for SNWanything at this point. I used to think Holdsworth needed to put out more content during the last 10 years or so before his untimely passing, and now I'm feeling that way about Fredrik. I don't want to put any more pressure on him. If I were him, I would have the hardest time trying to put out something that could compare to SNW, and if I got even one person saying it sucked, I would be like Keith Emerson RIP - not to be morbid, or disrespectful to his greatness or just being a human - and I would be depressed for the foreseeable future.

    • @Haekki
      @Haekki  5 місяців тому +1

      I'm guessing Fredrik wants the new album to sound unlike anything else, completely fresh and unique. He might put way too much pressure on him, seeing how he abandoned his 33 controller because he couldn't create the exact tone he had in mind. Maybe we all would be happy with what he came up with so far, but for him it's not good enough and that alone could mean that he might never finish it. His interview from 2011 where he stated that this album might take a long time seems so long ago... And yet I still have some hope left. I swear, I will take a flight to Stockholm one day, book a whole day of his studio and just sit there and play some SNW riffs. To be honest, his hiatus from Meshuggah and him not contributing much to the last albums had me feeling sad and depressed. Maybe one day we'll have some great news, let's hope for the best.
