  • In November 2021, leading climate campaigners from around the globe came together at The New York Times Climate Hub during COP26; Greta Thunberg, Tori Tsui, Dominique Palmer, Daphne Frias, Mya-Rose Craig and Ati Viviam Villafaña.
Almost two years later - as part of Planet Summer, our season of talks, performances, events and more responding to the climate emergency -we brought this group back together at the Southbank Centre to look at what progress, if any, has been made in the fight for our planet’s future.
00:00 | Introduction by Elaine Bedell (Chief Executive of Southbank Centre)
04:12 | Introduction by Alice Aedy
06:24 | Introduction by Daphne Frias
09:46 | Introduction by Greta Thunberg
12:45 | Introduction by Tori Tsui
19:43 | Introduction by Dominique Palmer
    24:35 | Introduction by Mya-Rose Craig
30:03 | Introduction by Ati Viviam Villafaña
38:09 | Annoying Questions for Climate Activists
46:29 | Phasing out fossil fuels
51:35 | Giving ‘Social License’ to fossil fuel companies
54:02 | Collaborating internationally to transition
58:51 Disabled communities disproportionately impacted by climate change
01:04:12 | Why are women grappling with climate change more than men?
    01:07:37 | Urgency vs Optimism / “A crisis of imagination…”
01:15:49 | What emotions motivate you to climate activism?
01:17:02 | Indigenous value systems and the climate emergency
01:25:24 | What do you sacrifice and what do you gain?
01:29:23 | The sense of responsibility to continue the work
    01:31:02 | A final motivating message
    01:37:26 | Bows
In this Royal Festival Hall discussion chaired by Earthrise co-founder Alice Aedy these six young activists explain what prompted, and continues to inspire, them to take their own intersectional approach to the climate crisis. They also address and discuss some of the key aspects of our current climate emergency, from the communities which feel its greatest impact to governments’ over reliance on fossil fuels, as well as the need for co-operation and collaboration in the continuation of impactful climate activism.
‘Climate doomism is so dangerous because it can paralyse action, where as showing the transformative stories of people who are coming together to take incredible action, and sharing solutions and the things that we can do, can be so powerful in mobilising people’. Dominique Palmer

They're delusional activists programed to act, distinct from critical thinking.

Why were there no young male climate activists invited, or are there none?

It was posed as a question to the participants so it's covered in the discussion at 01:04:12

@@tuesley27 My question was why were there no young male climate activists invited. The response was about how males are trying to maintain the capitalist status quo, not explaining why it was a female only panel. I am sure ther are males who want to 'Keep it in the ground' . As Malala Yousafazai says about education we cannot all advance if some of us are left behind, so it is with climate justice. If there had been young male climate activists included the conference may have reached a wider audience on social media. There may be many males thinking this is a female thing and nothing to do with me, even if they are the ones creating or denying the problem.

She was clearly exhausted, but she probably also wanted to let the other panelists speak - they might not be as well known as she is but they all had very interesting things to say.
