i'd love to see your take on something like a black forest gateau. i feel like often they're super duper sweet when it should be about bittersweet chocolate and tart cherry....just something chocolate related for sure.
I'm so enjoying the direction and production of the Alison's Home Movies. Love her rapport with the film crew; it's like she's teaching them how to prepare these recipes so her instructions come out detailed but also casual. It doesn't look like work, it just looks like fun. A lot of this energy is sometimes lacking in some of the current BA videos post the diaspora of some their more charismatic alums. The fun interaction between the film crew, the other cooks is what made me a fan of casually watching step by step cooking shows of things I will probably never prepare. I wasn't the biggest Alison Roman fan before, but I'm hooked now.
Watching this channel as a Brit is basically an education in how almost-but-not-quite-the-same American and British English are especially with regards to food. First you threw me off with scampi, now I had to go and figure out exactly what you meant by pudding... For us it is synonymous with dessert, so the idea of layers of pudding within the dessert just sounds really meta....
I love learning these types of things! It's interesting from an Australian perspective too - here, pudding is much more specific, typically referring to what I would call 'dense cakes served hot with a sauce' (that sounds so gross, but think of sticky date pudding, plum pudding at Christmas, self-saucing chocolate pudding etc.). I'm not even sure what we would call the first component of this dish... Custard maybe? I've never seen this exact type of dessert in Australia either but I imagine it would probably be categorised as a trifle - which I'm sure will enrage English viewers ;)
I had a terrible moment after moving to California from New Zealand when our new friends came to dinner. I made an apple and raspberry crumble with ice cream and announced "time for pudding!" which resulted in tears from my friend's daughter "that's not pudding! She said we were having pudding!". She recovered quickly and ate a bowlful. My lesson was learned.
@@simpleclaire oh that is so interesting! i feel like this is a scale of pudding... Australia being very specific, America being a bit more broad but still a somewhat specific, and then you have the Brits' meaning where it is basically a category. language is very cool!
@@HD-ol1mc Also with "jelly" at children's birthday parties. I thought -- what a WEIRD thing to serve until the stuff came out in little dishes and it was JELLO!
@@HD-ol1mc so true! Although as a Brit there is one exception to this rule: I still remember my distress the first time my mum promised Yorkshire pudding for Sunday dinner but served ice-cream for desert!
" " He ate a lot of pudding" Said Steve Jobs, one of Cho's close childhood friends" LOL the fact that David actually wrote a little article about himself just for an edit that would sit on screen for just seconds. I appreciate the work haha.
Oh wow this really brings me back. My Nana, who is not still with us, loved her Banana Cream Pie. And the red lipstick on the rim of a tea cup ... or even better on a small Dixie cup of beer just makes me smile! ❤️
For suggestions for future, perhaps a Pear Frangipane tarte. Or Frangipane anything, I love fresh cherries with almond flavors, too. You always teach us to prepare something delicious! Salted caramel and apples, good combo too!
Stopping by to say I made this pudding this weekend and it is quite possibly the best dessert I have ever had. Just sweet enough (lol) and so flavorful-- it is perfect in every way. The pudding comes together like a dream and the addition of the yogurt to the cream is genius level stuff. it also halved easily-- in case you're only making the dessert for a few folks. please make this dessert, it'll be one of the best decisions you'll ever make!
Your videos just keep getting better and better! I love the jokes, real life moments, and interactions with the crew. I'm not a fan of banana pudding, but will have to try your recipe in case it converts me. Also, I just recently started taking Ritual vitamins (postnatal) and LOVE them! #adulting
Came here to say the same thing! I’ve laughed out loud several times during this video and just added a glass bowl to my Amazon cart so I can make this pudding this weekend!
Love the pudding idea but wouldn't dare because I might eat it all myself. In the alternative -- how about more Lifestyle Roman? Would LOVE to know how you get on in the best city on earth and what keeps you going besides your prowess with food. More of Alison in the Wild would be great!
My grandmother used to make banana pudding for Sunday dinners at her house. We called it Nanner Puddin. She would never have added turmeric but I think that’s pretty brilliant. Trying this recipe soon!
I love this recipe so much. Took it to a picnic yesterday and so many people went back for thirds. Because of allergies I used regular milk instead of coconut milk, which was a shame, but it still worked out great.
I just made your banana cream pudding for Christmas day and it is AMAZING! Thank you so much for your accessible and thoughtful videos. I did wafer, pudding, banana, and cream. Thank you!
Thank you for this dessert recipe for non bakers!!! I absolutely suck at baking and I do not enjoy it. However I do enjoy dessert. This is the perfect compromise!
I was just thinking recently thinking about my grandma's banana pudding out of nowhere! Hadn't thought of it in ages. And now this! BAM BAM BAM OOOOOooooN iiiit
Hahaha I stack my egg shells, too…BIG Virgo energy 😋 more desserts from your Nothing Fancy cookbook would be great. I am a very visual learner, so it’s great to see them come to life outside of the pages of the book.
I love that you use turmeric. My grandmother recipe use to call for that and was so good. Plus we can say it a healthy food because of it anti-inflammatory properties.
Thanks Alison for these wonderful videos. I am learning a great deal about cooking but the best part is the banter between you & the crew. Also love the editing bits & pieces.
My sister in law from Texas and my brother are coming home to spend Christmas in Ireland and, apparently, Banana Pudding is a Big Thing over there. I was looking around for a recipe, so I could serve some alongside the trifle, roulade, cake, plum pud, etc. 'Banana Pudding' sounds awful but this looks delicious; thank you!
This is soooooooo good! I wasn't sure at first about the yogurt and cookies, but served it tonight and it's almost gone! Wasn't quite as pretty without the turmeric, so I'll add that next time! Thank you! (Served after your shirt ribs, also amazing!)
Came here for you. I don’t even like banana pudding. No matter how much I dislike the featured recipe (and this happens infrequently) I still watch every vid the whole way through haha. Roman, you’re a gift and a true force in the kitchen. Never ever change or stop being quirky and endearingly weird ;)) xoxox
I would love to have Grandma Prue as a special guest. With an iced coffee and lipstick straw. Hopefully saying snarky things while watching you do all the work.
Nilla wafer fan from early days, however: has anyone tried Alison's recipe with ginger snaps? I think the lime, coconut, bananas, and vanilla would play nicely. And Alison's blouse is perfectly coordinated, don't you think? 🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥
Another way to get an eggshell out: wet your finger and stick it on the shell. Works every time! I don’t like bananas all that much but this makes me want to try some 😋
Thank you for using cornstarch ! I can make it with cornstarch gluten free and make it celiac friendly for some of my family members , love your channel ! And of course with GF nilla wafers .
its my understanding that letting a custard based something boil for about a minute once it reaches that temp will also get rid of an enzyme that will destabilize your custard? thats why sometimes a custard will go runny in the fridge. someone correct me if im wrong 🥴🥴🥴
I am allergic to bananas but before I became allergic to bananas, banana cream pie (which is just like this but with a graham cracker crust instead of nilla wafers) was my favorite dessert. Maybe someday I will be able to once again enjoy banana desserts without my tongue swellling up and my throat itching. For now, it is enough to dream.
This is my fave childhood dessert. I Love this whole ensemble of flavors and combos and ingredients here. Pls tell me how or where I would be able to get this full recipe? Thank You!!!
Any fellow brits have any suggestions as to what we could use instead of the Nila wafers? Definitely never seen those in the UK but would love to make this!
You can make them: www.biggerbolderbaking.com/vanilla-wafers-nilla/ But a plain, crisp biscuit works, too - digestives or something similar work even though they aren’t identical.
This was one of my grandmother's signature dishes and I have to admit I was thinking IS THIS GIRL GOING TO USE NILLA WAFERS THO????? I'm impressed. You did good, kid! This was one of my dad's favorite. They ate it a lot when he was growing up, because the market on the corner always had overripe bananas on sale. My very deceased grandmother would roll in her grave though if she knew I leave the sliced bananas out completely because I think they're gross! :/
Thank you for watching! What other classic desserts would you like to see on a future episode of Home Movies? 🍰🍨🥧🧁🍨🍪
Something with chocolate! Anything with chocolate ;)
Tiramisu without the raw eggs
Pecan pie!
i'd love to see your take on something like a black forest gateau. i feel like often they're super duper sweet when it should be about bittersweet chocolate and tart cherry....just something chocolate related for sure.
I would love to see your take on Baked Alaska, maybe using mocha/coffee ice cream as a modernized version.

You just worded everything I love about Alison so perfectly
Doesn't look like work, seems like fun. But I bet putting one of these together is absolute hell on wheels.
Alison's desserts are easily among the most no-nonsense and approachable ones I've seen.

Grandmas and Alison keeping the Nilla wafers industry going strong 🤘

My mammaw made it all the time in the summer, in a giant 9X13X3 Tupperware dish. We called it Nanner Puddin’, too, and I still do tbh. 😋
2 weeks in a Row!!!! ❤️❤️
Saving this video for when the kids are asleep and I can watch in peace!!

I love this recipe so much. Took it to a picnic yesterday and so many people went back for thirds. Because of allergies I used regular milk instead of coconut milk, which was a shame, but it still worked out great.
I thoroughly enjoy your home movies. Such a tonic of positivity in these difficult times. Thank you for all the effort you put into your work.

I was just looking at this in your cookbook! I’m so excited!
You are so much fun to watch! And for the record, I absolutely love whipping cream by hand!
My mom used to make this every Thanksgiving. The almost soggy vanilla wafers make this dessert 👌
the 'Care' babysitter ad SENT ME 😭😭😭
I was just thinking recently thinking about my grandma's banana pudding out of nowhere! Hadn't thought of it in ages. And now this! BAM BAM BAM OOOOOooooN iiiit
I looooove this! I have an obsession for old fashioned desserts like trifle and cherry pie and Kathleen sponge! Can’t wait to make this!!!
Hahaha I stack my egg shells, too…BIG Virgo energy 😋 more desserts from your Nothing Fancy cookbook would be great. I am a very visual learner, so it’s great to see them come to life outside of the pages of the book.
This was a whole masterclass experience. Thanks for the delicious recipe!
Banana and coconut is such an under rated combo that just needs more love. 🥥
I used to add coconut to my banana bread
I just made this for thanksgiving. I have SO MUCH pudding in my fridge now, thank you
I’ve done this kind of recipe with butterscotch pudding and banana pudding and it’s yum AF.
I use smetana instead of fage yoghurt and it’s yum too.
Pudding is my spirit desert.
Exactly.
I love that you use turmeric. My grandmother recipe use to call for that and was so good. Plus we can say it a healthy food because of it anti-inflammatory properties.
Granny's recipes are the best. it's a must try. Luv u gur!
I made this for a Memorial Day party yesterday and it was a big hit! Thanks :)
Thanks Alison for these wonderful videos. I am learning a great deal about cooking but the best part is the banter between you & the crew. Also love the editing bits & pieces.
This episode was so entertaining. You + the crew are hilarious. The edits 💯
home videos are the highlight of my every other week
I cannot tell you how happy I am that my immersion blender came with a whisk attachment. So much easier.

Thank you so much, loving the episode!
I would love your version of a good rice pudding!
Yes! We still have 15 more days of summer!!! People need to stop rushing us into fall/winter/snow/ice/darkness
I would love to have Grandma Prue as a special guest. With an iced coffee and lipstick straw. Hopefully saying snarky things while watching you do all the work.

Your banana pudding reminds me of MY Grandmother! Yummy!
I made this pudding in my parents kitchen so they had to clean all the bowls 😏 it was absolutely delicious and we loved it.
This looks like heaven. Instead of brown sugar, I'm wondering if palm sugar would add a nice dimension.. or lead it into a Thai kinda taste?
This is my fave childhood dessert. I Love this whole ensemble of flavors and combos and ingredients here. Pls tell me how or where I would be able to get this full recipe? Thank You!!!
Great video! I made this pudding last summer with coconut instead of bananas, and for me, it was bananas. 🍌🍌🍌

I just made this and omg 😋 so delicious!
Oh well now I’m craving this and can’t do anything else until I have it
The single cherry cracks me up!
Vanilla wafers one of my favorite. I have never seen a recipe for them. Why? Because they are already perfect.
Hi! I’m from australia and we don’t have Nilla wafers🥲is there any other (universal) cookie you would recommend that would go well w the pudding?🌷🌷
A go coco over Alison. Anything with coconut doesn't hang out for a few days in my house.
Please demonstrate how to make a soufflé. I love them, but am to timid to try it.
What kind of biscuits are Nilla? We don't have them here in Australia so is there an alternative that is similar?
