Bernard Edwards is one of the best bassists who ever played.
Agreed
He influenced countless other famous bassists.
Thee best in my opinion
The most impressive thing that stood out to me was Bernard Edwards' interview. He had the right perspective about family, work ethic and being a stand up father.
Apart from that......he was a helluva bassist! One of my major inspirations.
Bernard Edwards, genius, hard worker, family man, role model. My ideal bassist and inspiration.
Before Timbaland, Dr. Dre, Pharrell & Chad(The Neptunes)& even Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis, there was Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards! These brothers are geniuses!!! RIP Bernard Edwards! Rock On Nile!
Rock on in Heaven Bernard Edwards.Man you was and is to damn funky
3:33 I love how Bernard's son just watches him, listens and nods to what his father says. You can see he is proud of him. What a lovely interview.
Yes I noticed that too and how beautiful watching a father with his family.
Focus
I know that is so adorable
I love that.I think he took after his dad cuz i think he plays bass also
What’s sad is if you believe everything Nile said in his book then Bernard was getting high during this time all while being a family man jn front of the cameras.
Bernard Edwards is a smart man. Respect to his music and soul.
Bernard Edwards' bass lines are foundational to the groove and success of the songs he and Nile Rodgers made and produced together. The more I listen to their songs, the more I appreciate his art. R.I.P - moe mai ra e te rangatira.
RIP UNCLE
Jhared Edwards ur uncle was a amazing Bass player!!!..one of my influences...🎸
Your Uncle and the Band were amazing and I loved their music. I was a little girl in the 1970s and I still have my 70s Album of Chic with their hit songs called Freak Out and my favorite one I Want Your Love.
It's true when these people we love suddenly disappear, it's real hard; no matter how much time has passed ('cause we know never they come back again ... painful thought !)
Your uncle was the best of the best.
Your Uncle basically taught me how to play bass. That is, I had no interest in the instrument until I heard him play. This changed my world. I play Music Man basses only because of him. Legend
Tony. What a drummer! Everybody should listen to Some Like It Hot by Power Station. Po-wer-ful.
I agree. What a great song.
RIP Tony and Bernard. 😓
Nile and 'Nard kept him on a tight leash in Chic, he only really busted out on the incredible drum breaks on Diana Ross's "I'm Coming Out." It's great that Tony Thompson got recognition as a heavy rock drummer with the Power Station and his work with Led Zeppelin (!). Died at 48 😢.
Bernard Edwards son is adorable looking at his dad and so focused :)
He really agrees and nods his head to his dad's mature points haha
It seems like he respected and loved his dad which is the way it should be.
I noticed that too, he has such well behaved children.
Love the pun.... Focus....
Bernard was such a great bassist but even a better father and family man.... RIP
Seeing Bernard with his babies is heartbreaking. Beautiful kids. Rock on Bern!
Why is it heartbreaking wtf if anything it’s beautiful
@@melspauldingifyBecause he had an untimely death.
@@melspauldingify after separate success as musicians and producers,, Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers re-teamed in the 1990s to release _Chic-ism_ and were on tour in Japan as recipients of the "J.T. Super Producers" award, and Bernadette Edwards died after a concert at the terribly young age of 43😭😔.
Drummer Tony Thompson played with several acts and was in the Duran Duran supergroup offshoot the Power Station, and died at 48. Too soon!
It's so beautiful to see how humble these men were when years after their career already had a lot of success. So beautiful how Bernard speaks of his family.
Bernard Edwards...a class act on and off the stage!! RIP man.
If I had a band I would want Bernard Edwards and Nile in it. Phil Collins on drums. Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn doubling up. Diana Ross and Elton John on vocals!
HIT IT!
Along with Chris Jasper on keys
If your band is doing disco R&B, I really don't think you can do better than Chic itself. Tony Thompson RIP was incredible. Rob Sabino on piano sparkled ("Spacer") Ray Jones and Andy Schwartz on electric piano delivered, Sammy Figueroa on percussion was essential on a lot of tracks ("I Want Your Love," "Thinkingof You"), and of course the Chic strings were dynamite. Fonzi Thornton sang along with the two women.
BEAUTIFUL FAMILY. RIP B.E.
They were unequaled.....That bass and rhythm guitar chemistry they had together was always PERFECT. The best 2 that ever did it....
Some music journalists compare them to McCartney and Lennon.
I just love those two. Never had the chance to meet or see Bernard but Nile is as cool, funny and humble as you see him here.
Nile & Bernard were my childhood music influents to dance music.... 40 years ago + , this music still sounds as good as it did in 1978........
happy anniversary BERNARD EDWARDS, it has been 20 years since you left us today :(
So much humility and talent. Two of the best to ever do it!
Family is so important for a musician.
Love this!
It's not a general rule, far from there !
The wide majorty of them musicians (pros, that is) are totally WACK !
Thank you for this jewel of TV broadcast. So good. These times will never come back. Life was much easier in my opinion. I was in my teenage years.
They were the class and sophistication of Disco...so very talented!!
The best bass player ever. At least for me. If a genie appeared and told me "I will grant you the skills of any bass player you want...BERNARD'S, PLEASE!!"
Marcus Miller and Stanley Clarke would like a word with u...lol
@@deezerbee81 and Jaco
Miss you Bernard!
Some of the baddest producers ever... They had the one two punch... guitar and bass
"Believer" is a great album, still can't wrap my head around how influential this band was in the entire music world, and yet their final album (in the original lineup) barely has any attention. It's a fantastic piece of 80s music, and continued the legacy of the "disco Chic" without sounding out of place in the 1980s production world.
Bernard super talented...such a shame that he is gone and he was so young
Great interview was good to see them in that environment Bernard with his family got to see them as human being. Love Chic
what a gem of a video. great to listen to Bernard.
Two kings of the disco era
this was siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick . i'm 33 and barely learning about these geniuses
I can say that Nile was responsible for so much of the pop music in the 80's.
Yeah but it all started here with CHIC.
HOO MY GOD!! WHAT A NICE PIECE OF VIDEO & THANK YOU to share THAT !! I PLAID BASS WHILE I WAS AT UNI AND BERNARD WAS so great to listen and to copy !!!!! so cute children and wife , little one saying yes when his handsome daddy is explaining how he is attached to them .... we all MISSING you SO MUCH!!!! RIP BERNARD !!!
Just finish reading Nile's autobiography. Nile is such an amazing story teller. What an amazing life.🌟
Bernard Edwards é o melhor baixista de todos os tempos, porque ele tocava simples, mas com uma melodia incrível, sua presença e jeito de tocar único, assistam um video dele, reparem na elegância ao tocar, nunca mais veremos um igual.
Love you Bernard. Virtuoso.
My forbidden lover restera pour moi à tout jamais un formidable morceau d'anthologie. Ces mecs sont géniaux.
Bernard Edwards + Nike Rodgers = good songs
Legendary songs my man
@ALL LIVES MATTER. All lives matter? Lol ok boomer
Every time you mentioned CHIC, the first musicians I would think of was Nile Rodgers and Benard Edwards. Little did I know that Benard was already dead. That left me so sad .Loosing such a bassist is like Brothers Johnson loosing Louis and George Clinton loosing Bootsy. Any way before retirement, like Bernard I also worked for the post office in Kenya but it was a bad experience. RIP Bernard.
BERNIE WAS ON PAR WITH JAMES JAMERSON! WHEN IT CAME TO BASS!
THAT LAUGH AT 6:08
Chic wow sounds so ggod still , I can feel it , feel the era thats what truely great music is you can feel it and the era
The Original Power Station.... Nile Rodgers , Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson ( RIP Bernard and Tony) !!!!!
That laugh hit me to my core.
Classy...God bless them both...
if you play bass...you are aware of bernard simple as that....he was a master.x
Sans aucun doute!
Chic is the greatest ever disc group.
Brother Bernard Edwards clinical bass player as well as songwriter for Sister Sledge apart from Chic.
Chic man oh man pure disco geniuses.
Nile and 'Nard together "composed, arranged, performed, and produced for the CHIC Organization" the Sister Sledge albums, also Diana Ross, Sheila and B. Devotion, Debbie Harry, and others in that phenomenal 3-year period 1979-1981. Bernard Edwards went on to produce Robert Palmer, the Power Station, and others.
Hope that Future Super Producers will learn from Bernard Edwards...keep Family First! 👨👩👧👦
Interesting interview on how to balance work with home.
Them bass players and the post office Brothers Johnson worked at the post office. I'm going to take the Post office test
Great !Great ! Bernard and Nile
Wow I was in the army when this video was made.
Bernard.... he was/is the MAN
I remember those kids coats from the 80s. Lol. God bless these brothers (RIP Bernard) and their beautiful families.
RIP Bernard Edwards & Tony Thompson
Dear God thank you for giving him the courage to quit his job at the post office!!
Dope dope video
Bernard Edwards passed away from amonia drummer died of lung cancer and nile rodgers and the ladies are tour across the world.
Mr Bernard Edwards all day and after life . .
50 times more talented than so many others, but 100% immune against what success does to so many artists...
OMG, why did Edward have to die? Not only do I agree with his music, I also share his views on family.
Because EVERYBODY dies !
Wonderful insight into Bernards life...
Power Station Studio A, in the beginning...
I don't see Bob Clearmountain? Vintage Neve...oh yeah!
Bernard died in Tokyo...ate some bad Sushi...poison was kicking in as he was playing but he kept it together...he must have gotten a fever while he was playing...
From simple beginnings as a post office worker in New York to Rock Star in Tokyo...now that's "Chic"...
When Bernard passed, Nile said he could feel Bernards presence in his hotel room in Tokyo.
One of the GREATEST Bass player's & composers ever...
take care benard we will see you soon, we hear you now.
We were all bless to have the best bass player and best guitarist play with Tony Thonpson and the rest of CHIC< and the people you all produced :)
''See you soon'' nothing; yes ! There's no such thing as that stuff; when you are gone, you are gone; and that's all, period ! Why lie to oneself !?
His wife is pretty
Probably said something that didn't make it to film at 6:08 lol
Nile was crackin up
covering his head with his arms folded LOL 😂😂😂😂😂
I had now idea til this WEEK that the 70's & 80's were so dope due to these men!! Thank God for them - These are the 'silver linings' of a Covid lock down...
Then you must be very young ... You definitely sound like a 2000s generation dude.
I bet you are ... Correct ?
Chic sounds as good today as it did back in the day , great music , Chic summed up that era in their sound . Disco was great music , still is , disco never died disco came out of the black dance clubs of NY , just as House came out of the black dance clubs of Chi Town , they still alive & well with many offspring & offshoots such as rave clubs , etc of today , at the time dico was evolving hip hop also came thru with the Djs being kings of the clubs and sound waves disco was is and shall evry live in greatness !
Eternal 🎵🎶✌🏿to Bernard Tony Alexis Luther
Gone never forgotten ✌🏿🎶🎵
So pleased that Bernard left the post office to make music
Had he stayed there, chic wouldn't have existed
Supreme 🔥
ICONS! 🔥
Nile Rodgers Netflix brought me here...😷💯😎🙏🔥
Young men should be forced to listen to Bernard Edward's interview to learn what a real role model sounds like
Well if you believe Nile’s autobiography both he and Bernard were constantly getting high around this time so not sure if you’d consider that a role model.
@@Polostar79 I'll have to read the book. I didn't know that.......Well, at least he didn't advertise.......lol.
Nowadays everyone needs to put it all out there for attention. Bernie let his talent do the talking
Good brothers here, with morals & respect. It's sad to say but more brothers need to be like the older generation.
RIP Bernard Edwards!!!
"Love and be Loved" by Johnny Mathis was so underrated.
Thank you! I've been searching for "love CAN'T be love chic". Great guitar opening!
great
that coffee cup that Fonzie is holding I remember tho cups so well I loveddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd the 80s
Immense Great Man, Bernard
❤️
I’m still struggling to play some of Bernard Edwards bass lines.
Bernard looks healthy…it shows you can go at any time…
RIP Bernard Edwards
God nile looks very young in this clip
Ha, the folks doing this interview misspelled Nile’s last name ...it’s Rodgers not Rogers. 1:22
