Thought exactly the same. Had hundreds of hours of fun playing RCT3. While the only fun I had with RCT World was watching all the reviews and wondering HOW BAD it actually is.
i agree fun category and a actual graphics category, not just coaster realism. he rated some of the ugliest coaster games the highest because there was no consideration to current gen graphics and esthetics.
It's no doubt a fun game, but it's nearly as buggy as RCT World is and doesn't run in high resolutions. Although it is very fun, it is also very outdated in my opinion.
@@Doofles I have RCT3 on something other than Steam (not sure what since my dad bought it) and it runs perfectly for me, despite me having a pretty new PC. Still, great video, glad it blew up a bit!
@@Doofles Old 3D games becoming unstable or even incompatible due to newer OSes isn't the fault of the game, it's because rendering standards change. It's notably stable especially on the intended setup i.e. Win98 or XP with a Radeon graphics card. This is like trying to run an old DOS game and acting like the game being too fast is bad game design. It's your computer!
@@UA-cam.Commen-tater It isn't the fault of the game, but I fault the game developers for re-releasing the updated version of the game. They could have updated the original for those who already owned it.
RCT2 absolutely deserves to be ranked higher than RCT1. The price may be higher, but it doesn’t lose any of the things that make RCT1 great while also improving on many things (such as tweaks and added features in the ride construction and path/landscape tools, as well as the ability to easily elevate or stack scenery and rides). It also adds the ride designer and scenario creator features, which adds incredible value to the overall game and makes it easily worth the slight uptick in price. That aside, this seems to be a great comparison list. The only game I had never heard of before was parkitect, and now I totally want to check it out!
Absolutely this. RCT2 was a super strong upgrade and is absolutely superior to its predecessor. Doesn't deserve a lower rank just because original RCT is so old and basic that nobody will spend more than $5 for it.
I didnt agree with RCT1 being so high, and Planet Coaster and RCT3 being so low. I mean, come on bro RCT3 literally lets you build zoos AND water parks something never seen before or after in the series. Not only that, but it was a HUGE leap in terms of technology and pacing for the series. Everything belongs and nothing feels out of place, the worst thing in the game is probably the builder but its fine with some tweaking, and it's got a lot of good easy to install mods! It's only problem is transitioning from 2d to 3d means riding the rides looks janky and unnerving as hell. Also Planet Coaster being that low and deducting a point from "realism" for different coaster models sounds cheap. Considering that (with limits on), Planet Coaster follows EVERYTHING that the world record holders do to their tracks. From height limits of the coaster, to maximum bank angles. Hell, before Steel Vengeance opened you could only have an 85 degree track drop, and when Steel Vengeance opened, the devs made it so all hybrids could now drop at 90 with the limits on. I dunno, this list felt very one sided, like it was obvious the games the creator likes was put higher than the ones he didn't, and thats fine. Everyone has an opinion, but doesnt mean I have to agree with it lmao
@@DrCranberry RCT3 was sht if you played 1-2 I started with 1 then 2 and then 3 with its DLC‘s The thing when it came out it looked something new (but didn‘t age well) I mean if they would make a new RCT3 game no one would care also most parks would always look flat unrealistic and details to rides were limited … and one thing what made it EXTREME TERRIBLE was that most scenes can‘t put where an object is like you want to build around a store a small building … you needed a 3x3 to build it in in rct1-2 1 tile
Even tho its on roblox the game is fun to play and the scenery is way better then most of the games on the list. Planet coasters scenery is also very good but u are very limited without dlc
ThrillVille truly is a forgotten franchise and while not on the level of some of the RCT games, they were still fun games with their own unique content.
Definitely very unique games. I'm not sure if I would consider them Rollercoaster games, due to their lack of realism. They are still lots of fun nonetheless. Thanks for watching!
I miss Thrillville. It had so much potential, I would have loved to see more from it, they were easily some of my favourite games back in the day. While I definitely spent more time with RCT2, Thrillville did some stuff I've never seen replicated in any game since. Absolutely fantastic and deserved much more, and it had some of the most personality and charm of any sim/tycoon game I've ever played.
@@Doofles I spent an entire evening once building a massive go cart track I could drive on once in thrillville 2. Remember borrowing a fiends console to play it because I was a pc gamer.
Planet coaster deserves to be higher to be honest. It's the only game on this list that balances simplicity like parkitect and also being super advanced. The realism is amazing especially with reshade where the game looks just like real life plus frontier haven't abandoned it. They moved on to planet zoo which is another perfect game in my opinion.
Yes, they have moved on to Planet Zoo, Jurassic World Evolution, and Jurassic World Evolution 2. The game hasn't been updated in years though and I don't believe they have any plans to update it. You wouldn't consider that abandonment? I think Planet Coaster could really use some new content.
@@Doofles I’d consider it’s just reached the end of its development cycle. Games, like phone and computers can’t receive updates for ever. And at somepoint Frontier has to move on to other projects in order to keep making games. There already is a Planetcoaster 2 in development so why would they continue to make content for the old game. They moved to the console edition to bring that up to the pc edition also in terms of content. I agree with majority of the rankings but saying the game is too expensive is kinda weird especially when there is like 12 DLC which add so much more content into the game to build parks with and because it hasn’t received updates is kinda strange. Great vid tho
@@Twistashio The game also goes on sale a lot so dlc and price are not too much of an issue. For the quality of the game I think it got its fair share of support and the DLC is fine considering the game was made a while ago and developers need to make money somehow. The game is also perfectly playable without DLC, so for anyone complaining about DLC just don't pay for DLC :).
@@Twistashio The Planet Coaster concept would be better served by a full sequel with a newer and more optimized engine. DirectX 11 was the premier graphics API of the time, and it does not handle multi-threading well at all.
One thing you missed about TPT2 and Planet Coaster is they both have an automated smoothing feature. I think its just the way you build your coasters because some creations on Planet Coaster do not have those “bad transitions” as you say.
@@CoasterDave this was made 2-3 months ago- wdym. Ive been playing tpt2 and planet for abt 3 years. His rides on tpt2 are what us TPT2 players call “spaghetti “. A bunch of twists and turns and drops that arent smooth.
i don’t agree with the rank of planet coaster. Yeah, it is pricy, but it is completely worth it. The creators spent much more time making this than almost every other game on the list, so it’s good that they are finally done with it. It is a great game, and it doesn’t matter if they stopped working on it, because of how well and how detailed it came out as.
Except the part where you can't even run it on a decent rig like a 5800X 6950 XT in 1440p and surely not in 2160p once you've got a just half-decent park going
One consideration I would add to the price category is replay ability. I don’t mind paying a little more for Planet Coaster if I replay it over and over again because I get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
Okay wait... wait wait wait. You gave Planet Coaster a 4/10 on Price for being $45. But gave No Limits an 8/10 on Price for being $40. Because you inflated PlanCo's price to $100 based on game + every possible DLC. But you didn't judge NL's price based on game + Pro license. These seem like wildly biased scores. Also Planet Coaster goes on sale all the time, and No Limits rarely if ever does.
@@Doofleshonestly not a very accurate take, maybe the old rides dlc is a must but Ghostbusters? And back to the future? Munsters, none of these felt necessary
I find it interesting that you mention the freedom of being able to theme things in Planet Coster when the majority of flat rides are pre built/themed. Planet Coater is undoubtedly a phenomenal game, but it always bugged me that they spent so much time giving people the freedom to create with the scenery items, but the rides already had a theme. Just my thoughts!
So much this. The lack of un-themed flat rides in Planet Coaster is so aggravating and really hurts the game for me. An important category in this video would have been "THEME" since you're playing, you know, theme park games. Besides building the rollercoasters, I think that's probably why most people play these games is to have fun designing their own theme-rich parks. Another important category you could've added is the actual business simulation side of the game as that really takes these games to the next level and can make or break them if done poorly. RCT series nailed the business side with intuitive yet challenging business decisions that made sense.
@@midguard7917 Absolutely! It’s why I tend to still play RCT1-3. I’d rather play a limited game (building wise) with rides that are vanilla, than play something where the core element to the game is so restricted. It’s not even the fact that rides have a theme in Planet Coaster. It also comes down to the style of the ride. It gives me the impression that on planet coaster’s universe, every park has the exact same flat rides down to theme and what they do.
There are some beautiful parks that people have made in Theme Park Tycoon 2 and its insane how much time some people have spent on their parks. Even the fact that a single developer beaten basically most of the other games in this list is crazy.
I have found myself making some pretty impressive parks in my opinion but yet there are others that absolutely dwarf mine. It's honestly quite fun putting multiple hundreds of hours and noticing improvements every time I start anew
As an avid player of TPT2, realism is something affected by the player, you really gotta choose to add realism which costs more but can benefit in ways like you can pay to be able to add very precise parts which could be used to make your parks more realistic
As a coaster enthusiast, I think Theme park Tycoon 2’s coaster editor system is great. I also love the customizable sizes colour a and textures for the primitive shapes, it allows you to be very creative, and make extremely realistic rides. It’s my personal favorite
I agree the game passes are cheap and with those you can make very realistic parks especially the disabled collisions with the amazing percussion build mode to make incredibly realistic parks and the coasters builder is the smoothest of any game
Planet Coaster being knocked a 4/10 for being $45 raw and $100+ with DLC while NoLimits being given an 8/10 for being $40 raw and $100+ to remove the watermark seems disingenuous. Sure, NoLimits 2 has the genre’s best coaster builder and customizability, but Planet Coaster has Scenarios, Sandbox, Custom Scenario Creator, and a very large plot of land to build on. Planet Coaster’s coaster builder, while having lapses, is very good for what it is, which is not a roller coaster simulator. It’s a tycoon game geared towards coaster enthusiasts and fans of RCT, so giving it a node-based complex coaster builder doesn’t make much sense. What you get with Planet Coaster’s DLC is a lot of content coaster type wise and scenario piece wise, plus, the game contains items to custom build supports if the autogenerated ones aren’t your fancy. Therefore, I don’t think it’s fair to say that $45-$100 is not worth the near 900 hours you got out of it when recording this video.
You know the funniest part about this too, you can get planet coaster and planet zoo on G2A for both $6.99 lol and this dude is talking about how it’s $40. Like he must buy every single game on steam and not look at any other website lol
A good consideration for Planet Coaster’s optimization would be that it’s available on Xbox(PlayStation as well I think?) I’ve never had any issues running it there, so definitely would have been an A rating for me. I’m also big on scenery. So it gets a bump there for me.
Planet Coaster has scenery limitations on console to achieve a stable framerate. The only problems I've had with it are in large parks with lots of scenery, which probably isn't possible on console.
@@Doofles I have planet coaster in PS5. I’m a big fan of rollercoaster games and don’t have the money for a PC, so planet coaster on console is a dream come true. It’s always fun to hop in a build a lot of coasters and save the blueprints, which is what I do almost all the time on it. To smooth coasters more, I just hit the smooth button twice and they normally look good. If you look at my channel, you’ll see what I’m talking about.
One thing you missed about Parkitect was the mods which give even more content to the game. Things like Coaster Anarchy and Construction Anarchy really open up the possibilities as well.
I didn't realize parkitect had mods. I'm only about 60 hours in the game. Once I finish the campaign, I'll be sure to check out the mods. Thanks for letting me know!
@@Doofles The mod scene for Parkitect is like nothing I've ever seen. The devs highly encourage members of the community to create new mods for it, ranging from new ride types, trains, and scenery assets to enhancers like shadowers, ride camera, peep camera, and freer coaster building and scenery placement (the aforementioned Coaster and Construction Anarchy). Even now mods are still being created by players of the game. Their discord is a great spot to get advice on how to jump into the mod scene
@@Doofles There is also this mod called track edit 2 that gives a lot more freedom on building coasters by node based modifying but its really buggy and can crash the game and it can be hard to use sometimes. The guy who made the mod isn't developing it anymore so it probably has those problems forever
@@Doofles I know it's off topic, but rct classic is pretty much the better of the mobile RCT's, well, about 30CA$, but at least, you get quite a lot to do still
Someone who finally appreciates Theme Park Tycoon 2! I've played since 2016 since I was 7 and have loved it. The amount of replayability and simplicity makes it so easy to pick up! This game introduced me to the tycoon/coaster builder genre, and I still play it to this day. Especially since the building capabilities are incredible.
@@imdrogon Seems mostly due to the fact that people believe ROBLOX is a childrens game. Yet it is in reality for all ages. Yes, ROBLOX does target itself towards children but there are more than thousands of popular games on ROBLOX that target teenagers.
I have played since 2016 aswell but I still prefer planet coaster. TPT2 did not have alot of the things I wanted in the first 3-4 years Ive been playing it while Planet Coaster did have them since... launch. The main thing I enjoyed about TPT2 is that I could walk around the park and actually ride things like a guest. But overall I disliked the square paths, the AI, the limited park size, roller coaster design and tracks that I even tried to make my own roblox themepark in roblox studio (but obviously I abandoned them because they take a lot of work to make) ALTHOUGH since TPT2 still gets updates, i would rate it at a B. Its still very limited though
Plus, Theme Park is, I believe, the first in this genre. For that alone, it needs ti be on this list. It was the first amusement park game I ever played before the RTC games were released, and it got me into loving this subgenre.
I think that he should give planet coaster a bit more cred. It definitely has the graphics. The coaster builder is simple and you can make insanely smooth coasters if you put some time into smoothing the track. I play it on maxed out settings with a RTX 3060 and a AMD 5600x and I haven’t had any problems with it. As he said, the frame rate drops if you have a big park filled up with props but other than that the game runs awesome. I bought the game for 12 dollars some a couple of years ago on Black Friday. I really recommend waiting for a discount because the appear quite often. Planet coaster isn’t perfect but very close to. It’s easily on my top three games list after Transport Fever 2 and obviously Minecraft. It is just a shame that he put a Roblox game in the A tier and planet coaster in the C tier. Planet coaster is a game in the S tier and you should really go right ahead and buy it.
If you haven't played TPT2, I highly recommend it. As for planet coaster, it is a great game, but it doesn't come without it's problems. It's a great deal if you catch it on sale, but the sales are few and far between. Compare it to free or cheaper alternatives and it doesn't seem that amazing in my opinion. If graphics are what you care about, then you should check out NoLimits 2. I definitely still love Planet Coaster though! This doesn't represent which ones are my favorites, but instead which ones I think are the best.
Somehow I feel that Planet Coaster was done dirty here. PC was the first stand alone game developed by Frontier, it had massive support for a few years and the steam workshop for that game is on a level of its own which wasn’t even mentioned. I think PC should atleast be in the B tier if not up there in the A tier. Keep in mind all the games except the original RTC are newer than PC.
NL2, Parkitect, and RCTW also have workshop support. This is community made content though and does not add to the base features or content of the game.
I’m happy to see that Theme Park Tycoon 2 is on here and that it got it’s due respect, it’s my personal favorite theme park game and it’s the one I’ve been actively playing the longest (since 2014!). I could probably go on for hours about all the things I love about this game but I’ll just list my most favorite aspects: 1. The coaster builder, it’s my favorite coaster builder and I think it’s a bit more refined than Planet Coaster’s, If you know what you’re doing you can make coasters about as smooth as No Limits, there’s less polygons but I think that works in it’s favor. 2. The structure building system, honestly this could be a stand alone building game without the coasters it’s incredible, I’m more so referring to the no collisions game pass building but even the on grid stuff is good. 3. How different it is from the others, it’s not talked about enough how unique this one is in comparison to the typical theme park game, firstly you’re not in that 3rd person god view all the other ones have, you’re walking around your own park and managing it like a real human (other then when you go into coaster building mode, but there is an option to switch to your character view). Secondly it’s multiplayer, correct me if I’m wrong but I think this is the first multiplayer theme park game, a lot of my fun with this game over the years has come from playing with friends. Not to mention the randomness of what you might see on the servers, it gives you a sense of exploration going to see what people have made, for other games you only ever see what people made if they share it, on here you get to go and see it all for yourself. 4. The updates, this game came out in 2012 and is still being updated frequently, and it’s yet to have a bad update! Some of the old features that have become outdated have been improved upon while still keeping them available. Every update is more impressive than the last, I remember there was a time people said wooden coasters would be impossible because it’d be too laggy, but the developer always finds a way! Also the bugs are fixed so fast I have no chance to even catch them! Theme Park Tycoon 2 is not only my favorite theme park game but my second favorite game overall (right behind Elden Ring 😙) At the age of 19 I can still get on there and waste away 6 whole hours of my life and not even realize it. I ended up spending like an hour talking about it anyways man I love this freaking game so much 🥹
Also, Planet Coaster has a 'smooth' function when building tracks that cure some of the rough transitions. I personally think the transitions are amazing on Planet Coaster, as long as you follow best practices.
my favorite is Thrillville: Off The Rails. It is very unrealistic but so fun! You can build coasters, play arcade games, and even manage your own park. The game has so much imagination if you like that it is worth checking out
I wish Sim Theme Park got remastered/ported to modern systems, game was really fun but I think it focuses more on money management. Best rollercoaster game imo is RCT 1, such a classic, and I remember everyone having it on their PC as a kid, even non gamers!
I think your rating system is skewed. "There's just no way to justify that price" but then a 4/10 score on it, and that kind of thing happens multiple times. You also bring up valid criticisms but then undercut yourself, "It's easy to overlook," etc. Informative video about the basics of different coaster simulators, but weird ranking system fam.
I’ve learned to adapt with the roughness on planet coaster. If you build with RMC, I like to imagine the rough transitions as airtime moments, if I build with the ptc wooden track, I put “made by the Dinn Corporation” in the ride description. All my B&Ms are Giovanolas too
Theme park tycoon 2 has a very big amount of depth, it has monthly updates, primitives that can use different materials to make anything: Statues, custom supports, displays, buildings, scenery, and props. Look up anything about the game and it’s early looking design can bring so much detail that you would be astonished at the hand placed objects and potential it has. It’s probably number 2 on the list.
Definitely a little offended by the low placement of Planet Coaster and RCT3 as these were the games I grew up with and that got me into themeparks, but I respect your opinion. Good video!
Perspective has a lot to do with it. Younger generations did not play the original RCT series until they couldn't so they have a lot more appreciation for a game that actually copies it. I can't get into Parkitect because it's the same game with a few (important) additions. It IS better but it's too close for me to enjoy like it's a new. I personally LOVE the crowds of people in Planet Coaster and the variety of customization. The paths aren't perfect, but compared to grid based paths they are amazing. I'm ready for upgrades! I want to visit a park in VR.
I play Theme Park Tycoon 2 all the time! They have recently added updates to make the coaster smoother and more realistic. They also have a lot of customization options if you want to build cool scenery or if you want to build like a castle or something. This game is great for recreations. Also all the gamepasses added up in price are barely over $10 in Robux. This game is awesome! Somebody from ages 6 and up would enjoy it. I played it alot when I was younger and still do. Great game, great community.
The reason to why your transitions in TPT2 is because it doesn’t automatically apply a heartline and you have to use different techniques for smooth transitions. There are countless videos about it on UA-cam. Otherwise great video.
@@shamrock6975 I have, I played it before I started playing planet coaster. And the difference is so huge, tpt2 is so limited, and everything there is on a grid like old games. there are some better stuff there, like changing a material, and sizing stuff, but when comparing all their feautres, planet coaster is by far winning
Considering I easily got 1750 hours and counting on Planet Coaster, I respectfully disagree with your assessment on price. Yes, definitely get it on sale if you can, but I think the fact the next most-played game by me is like, 700 hours (rct3), it's worth it 100 percent. Also, idk how much is Frontier Doesn't Care vs Frontier Wants To Sell A Sequel there is in the stopping of updates. I mean, 12 DLC with some pretty substantial content with each is admirable, and I prefer the game to not get more bloated.
Are Frontier working on a sequel? Just curious, as I haven’t heard anything. Although I don’t expect them to continue releasing DLC, especially if they’re interested in a sequel, there are small improvements they could have made. Performance and pathing, to name two.
I play theme park tycoon a lot I mean if you look at my 2 video you could see that, I've been playing for about a year and my favorite part is how much customization and freedom you get with the game for just paying 10 dollars you can get one of the most in depth building guis I've ever seen, the community is also very nice and streamers and youtubers often visit people's parks and show them off. The dev dosent talk much but loves feedback and everybody seems to live hiw even though he's basically just a single guy working on a game in his free time he still manages to push out free and amazing updates nothing but praise for this game and its community.
This is a great guide. But I have to say this about Nolimits 2. If you have a slower PC and you want to upload videos of your rides to UA-cam, the pro upgrade is definitely worth it. The pro video exporter slows the ride down to match the framerate so it's guaranteed to have whatever framerate you set it to. So you can just crank the graphics up and still record in 4k60 even if the park only gets 10fps if you play it ingame. It will take very long to record tho, but the end result is worth it.
Would've been interesting to see how you would rate Theme Park Inc. It's the same style as RCT3, albeit probably more goofy (Realism: -10). It also features a Roller Coaster editor. It was launched in 2001 (3 years before RCT3) and is probably the first 3D theme park game - as far as I know. The game mechanics are also kind of unique despite being very similar to the RCT franchise.
Yeah, after talking about games some people hadn't heard of and then calling RCT the oldest I was a bit shocked; especially with no mention of Theme Park by bullfrog (1994) or Coaster Works for the Dreamcast.
The thing that makes the Roblox coaster builder so good is that unlike planet coaster you can change the piece length to any length rather than being above 4 meters and in 1 meter increments. That makes it super easy to make way smoother coasters than planet coaster. I love the coaster builder and it’s only rivaled by no limita
Can I ask why you didn't include a category like "Economic simulation"? Except the NoLimits 2, all the other games are "Tycoon" games, not only coaster builders.
The economic simulation is not the main appeal to me. I'm sure there are a lot of people that it appeals to, but I'm mainly focused about the rollercoasters. This video is mainly targeted for Coaster enthusiasts and fans of Coaster games, so I didn't think it really made sense to include a category like that when some of the rollercoaster games don't feature an economy. That's just my opinion though. Thanks for watching!
Theme Park tycoon 2 still gets a lot of regular updates and has improved on many ratings, IMO, including realism, seeing as every (almost) outdated model has been updated to look extremely realistic. Also, the coaster builder is quite good, but it can be difficult figuring out how to use all the tricks (pivot offset, heartline, etc.). To really get a better feeling of the game, you definitely need most gamepasses, which costs about 15$ Apart from that, it would have been nice to include scenery and park building in the final rating for each game
What’s your opinion on the Thrillville games? Thrillville: Off the Rails on the DS was my first video game literally ever, and it holds a special place in my heart. Definitely gets a low realism score but that adds to its charm for me 🥰
I've actually never played it. From what I've seen, it's less about rollercoasters and more about mini games and other fun experiences. Not a fan of the non realistic nature of the game, but that's just me. I'm sure it's still plenty of fun!
I’m glad you had respect for theme Park Tycoon 2 Because: It’s has less to work with compared to these other games It’s built by one person It can only do so much because it’s run on Roblox where other games also run.
I dunno... maybe it's just me, but I might have given Planet Coaster a slightly better score simply because I don't find the faults as annoying as some... I wouldn't put it as a solid A, but I'd bump it into the B range. :) Other than that, I agree with your ratings. You clearly laid out the pluses and minuses of each and gave a fair assessment to them all.
The initial shock of seeing a Roblox game lumped in with actual games aside, I'm really glad TPT2 got a high rating. I think it's not just a really substitute for genuine coaster/park builder games, but it stands on its own quite well. Some players go absolutely ham with it too, there's some fantastic stuff you can find on UA-cam and such, tho getting lucky with talented builders is uncommon. Benji Adventure's is a great example of this. His parks are way better than a Roblox game has any right to be. That said, I do have disagreements. A) I don't think making smooth coasters is hard at all, or at least I don't have trouble. The trick, honestly, is auto-connect. Make a sort of 'rough draft' of your desired layout, delete segments that feel off and use auto-connect, works wonders B) I actually think all the Gamepasses (except Jukebox now due to a universal Roblox update) are actually quite essential. Due to the scale, the base height limit feels super restricting. Even upgrading it all the way I find it restricting still from time to time. The Ride Operations gamepass is also essential, as the base gravity, combined with the vase height limit, ends up making some pretty slow rides with a traditional lift. The base launch power also ain't all the great either, and you can't costumize holding time for launches without the gamepass.
I played my first 10 hours of TPT2 without any game passes, but bought a few within the last couple hours. I wouldn't say it's necessary, but it definitely adds a lot. Thanks for watching!
I got Planet Coaster when it was 75% off on steam, €9.99 to be exact. Also, the game runs perfectly fine for me, even when I have tons of peeps and a park with a lot of scenery. Ah those 650 hours I could’ve spent playing outside.
Wow, I've never seen it that cheap. That's a really good deal. The performance issues aren't the worst, but it will certainly drop down to at least 30fps at times. It just depends what you consider low fps. Haha 650 hours well spent!
@@Doofles I guess I was quite lucky with my purchase. Especially since it was the first time I actually took a look at the price tag after finding out about the game haha.
RCT2 should've been in the A tier list and PlanetCoaster in the B list for sure. i would also move NoLimits2 down a tier as well because it's not just about how realistic a game is it's how fun, easy to learn and visually stylistic it is as well and NoLimits2 doesn't look or feel as fun as some of the others. also i will recognize my Blue Tornado coaster ANYWHERE. so glad you showed it off in Planet Coaster segment of the video.
RCT2 ranked lower than 1 because... it costs a bit more? 2 added so many new features compared to 1 AND has community support through OpenRCT. Also World and 3 in the same tier? Absurd.
ive been playing theme park tycoon in roblox for like 5 years now and about a year ago i started this really good park and i recently got planet coaster
Love seeing TPWs London Resort in the video, their parks are the epitome of borderline-unplayable because of the insane detail and piece counts. Great video overall!
Planet coaster is the best for all the theming you can make. It's my fav game by far. You can do crowded cities or worderfull waterfalls and theres Steam workshop to download real parks.
I've seen people do some amazing things in Parkitect as well. The detail of buildings in that game is on the same level, if not higher. People have made some really cool stuff!
I have a digital version of rct3 platinum i got off amazon a few years ago, and it runs well on a surface pro. Just need to tweak the compatibility settings and it can basically run on the highest settings with very few flaws
Recently there has been a new game that is super underrated called Ultimate Coaster X. It’s like No Limits 2 but really easy to learn. It’s free on Steam which is great. The only problem really is that it has only 17 or so track types. But it is pretty good for an indie game. Also there is Ultimate Coaster 2 which is bad compared to most laptop and computer game but the thing is, it’s a mobile game. So it just destroys all other mobile games. I would say UCX deserves a B or C rating. And UC2 would have a C rating.
Also with Theme Park Tycoon 2, there have been some more recent updates that have really added to realism with general building & theming creating infinite possibilites with advanced building & resizing. As well as an updated roller coaster editing feature where it autosmooths the track to be less jolty and less-planet coastery. Great video!
By the way, a tip for theme park tycoon 2 i use the advanced editor snapping to make extremely smooth roller coasters unlike the free editor. But the free editor could help you sometimes for sure.
But I have to warn you, it doesn’t give you a lot of precision with building elements and things but you really do have to get used to using this because your first time coasters are probably going to be rougher
The thing I would change in the score on planet coaster in the smoothness and add that there is a smoothing button to make your transitions not so hard
To emphasize even more the 10/10 scores to the builder and realism of NoLimits 2: I've used the game myself to gather data and develop my graduation project in civil engineering! Not only that, it has also been used in a masters degree thesis on analyzing real coaster designs :D Definitely worth giving it a look!
Good vid also tpt2 is pretty good but it needs station updates and other stuff the game is so fun because you can play with other people butt no limits 2 is realistic and it’s pretty good tpt2 10/10 no limits 100/10 a Also I love your racer reborn vid and also I like the music also the hellbeast vid is AWESOME thanks for the amazing vids woofles
Aww, I was kinda hoping for a skewering of Sim Theme Park! Also, worth noting that OpenRCT2 exists and actually improves a lot of small things from RCT2 vanilla.
Nothing could touch the sheer amount of joy and fun that RCT 3 brought me.. until Planet Coaster came along in my adult life. Both of those games deserve a better placenent.
i wouldn't take this ranking too seriously this guy rated rct 1 higher than rct 2 because it cost 5 dollars vs 10 dollars he deducted points because a game cost 10 dollars which is still dirt cheap, his entire ranking system is bizarre
After watching this video, I really enjoy the ranking you have. As a tpt2 builder, I think tpt2 is great and glad it has updates every month and over the last 5 years, he has been improving the models and rides to make it better. I would say maybe you could have shown some of the bigger parks that are better and have more detail but it's fine. Great vid though!
I remember having one in the late 90's or early 2000's called Ultimate Ride, which was the first one I ever saw that offered a first person point of view of the rides.
@@a-can-o-beans8340 the amount of added tools and customisation in open rct2 is amazing, although a lot of these tools are difficult to use if your new to the game , they are still there and makes the possibilities endless in openrct2
For the RCTWorld every single flat ride actually has a real counterpart. Granted it's not exactly accurate, but having some of these rides were pretty brave of the developers to include. Such as a Tango, Excalibur, etc those are all interesting flat rides that are hard to find. I actually wish some of them were in other games.
Idk if anyone else has said this but with planet coaster, they have a smoothing menu when your ride is complete. Also planet coaster does go on sale often
Man, so glad Parkitect is getting recognition. Super underrated! If you love the RCT games, you'll love parkitect, it's like that but more polished, but also runs easily with no problems! Perfect theme park game in my opinion!
i have a soft spot for theme park tycoon 2 i have a chain of parks that I started all the way back in 2016 and all of them grew real big so you can tell i spent wayy too much time in this game
No Limits 2 was scored absolutely appropriately. I think you also should have included a little more discussion into the scripting aspect of No Limits 2. In my opinion it is was really makes it stand out. Great video!
In the time since I posted this video, I have delved deeper into NL2 scripting and I know a lot more about it now than I did then. It allows for a lot of freedom when designing the coasters. Thanks for watching!!
Theme Park Tycoon 2 is insane because if you look at it now it is nearly a different game as everything gets more realistic all the time as the developer updates it each month
you definitely need to look at some of the theme park tycoon 2's recreation of real life roller coasters and extremely well built parks. they are astonishing!
@@Doofles Here's a compilation of those videos. ua-cam.com/video/EGSIurHOa4g/v-deo.html&t if you don't want the link, here's the title of the video Theme Park Tycoon 2's *BEST PARKS* 2021!
i can’t believe you added tpt2, however i think the builder should definitely be higher especially with the new features they added where yo can make the ride much more smooth, specifically into transitions
I think Planet coaster should DEFINENTLY be ranked in the B or even A tier, you can get it for way cheaper and that cheapness is almost 7 dollars! It's basically kinda buying a code to buy the game on steam and the code is way cheaper than the actual game itself.
There needs to be a more subjective category. Like level of fun. RCT World being that high compared to RCT 3 is a crime
Thought exactly the same. Had hundreds of hours of fun playing RCT3. While the only fun I had with RCT World was watching all the reviews and wondering HOW BAD it actually is.
Tried Parkitect Co-op mode for the first time this week. So much fun!
RCT3 is by far my favorite of all the RCT series.
i agree fun category and a actual graphics category, not just coaster realism. he rated some of the ugliest coaster games the highest because there was no consideration to current gen graphics and esthetics.
Also weighted. The overall enjoyment/level of fun should take up 50% of the weighting by itself.
Putting rct world in the same category as rct3 seems a little off. Rct3 introduced many to the franchise and is personally my favorite rct game
He forgot RCT classic as well, the only good mobile RCT.
Ranking just price is also kinda weird..
@@DrCranberry 100% agree with you!
@@DrCranberry RCT3 was sht if you played 1-2 I started with 1 then 2 and then 3 with its DLC‘s
The thing when it came out it looked something new (but didn‘t age well) I mean if they would make a new RCT3 game no one would care also most parks would always look flat unrealistic and details to rides were limited … and one thing what made it EXTREME TERRIBLE was that most scenes can‘t put where an object is like you want to build around a store a small building … you needed a 3x3 to build it in in rct1-2 1 tile
It’s absolutely outrageous that planet coaster is 2 tiers lower than a ROBLOX theme park builder

Haha up to this day im still playing thrillville of the rail on my psvita😇
I miss Thrillville. It had so much potential, I would have loved to see more from it, they were easily some of my favourite games back in the day. While I definitely spent more time with RCT2, Thrillville did some stuff I've never seen replicated in any game since. Absolutely fantastic and deserved much more, and it had some of the most personality and charm of any sim/tycoon game I've ever played.
@@Doofles I spent an entire evening once building a massive go cart track I could drive on once in thrillville 2. Remember borrowing a fiends console to play it because I was a pc gamer.
I absolutely loved the first Thrillville with the cheerleading games and the mini golf 😅

I still play RCT3 to this day. The introduction of custom scenery makes it number one for me
One thing you missed about TPT2 and Planet Coaster is they both have an automated smoothing feature. I think its just the way you build your coasters because some creations on Planet Coaster do not have those “bad transitions” as you say.
Man you just told everything tanks
When he made this video, TPT2 didn't have that, and planet coaster's smoothing doesn't work that well.
@@CoasterDave Tpt2 did have it.
@@CoasterDave this was made 2-3 months ago- wdym. Ive been playing tpt2 and planet for abt 3 years. His rides on tpt2 are what us TPT2 players call “spaghetti “. A bunch of twists and turns and drops that arent smooth.
@@jack_amaa I just checked it, you right
i don’t agree with the rank of planet coaster.
That's a good point. Although, I would agree that almost every game on this list has great replay ability.
The problem with PlanCo is that a lot of its content lies within the DLCs. The combined cost of the game and DLCs is over $100.
I paid 2$ for planet coaster😂
@@Dooflesbro it’s on sale all the time I got the game and all dlc for 40 bucks.
@@Doofleshonestly not a very accurate take, maybe the old rides dlc is a must but Ghostbusters? And back to the future? Munsters, none of these felt necessary
@averydavis5741 and on console, Ghostbusters is listed but not available, probably the license ran out and they didnt renew it.
I have found various ways to make custom themes for flat rides, even if the rides were already themed
There are some beautiful parks that people have made in Theme Park Tycoon 2 and its insane how much time some people have spent on their parks. Even the fact that a single developer beaten basically most of the other games in this list is crazy.
It's really impressive for being a roblox game! So are some of the parks!
Yah I spent like 10” hours on a park
100*
I have found myself making some pretty impressive parks in my opinion but yet there are others that absolutely dwarf mine. It's honestly quite fun putting multiple hundreds of hours and noticing improvements every time I start anew
As an avid player of TPT2, realism is something affected by the player, you really gotta choose to add realism which costs more but can benefit in ways like you can pay to be able to add very precise parts which could be used to make your parks more realistic
The worst part about it is that it takes absolutely forever to do. Yes it's technically possible, just really quite hard.
As a coaster enthusiast, I think Theme park Tycoon 2’s coaster editor system is great. I also love the customizable sizes colour a and textures for the primitive shapes, it allows you to be very creative, and make extremely realistic rides. It’s my personal favorite
Completely agreed. Theme Park Tycoon 2 is indeed the best theme park game out there. Coaster wise, No Limits 2 beats it
yeah tpt2's great
I agree the game passes are cheap and with those you can make very realistic parks especially the disabled collisions with the amazing percussion build mode to make incredibly realistic parks and the coasters builder is the smoothest of any game
I really like how it combines RCT-style element blocks with flexible banking & shaping like in Planet Coaster or NoLimits
yeah tpt2 is the best, most people don't even know whats possible in this game
I got planet coaster a few days ago when it was on sale for $12 and I’m absolutely LOVING it.
Yeah I feel like planet coaster hasn’t been that much for a long time and I got it for similar to you
Planet Coaster being knocked a 4/10 for being $45 raw and $100+ with DLC while NoLimits being given an 8/10 for being $40 raw and $100+ to remove the watermark seems disingenuous.
I pirated it
You know the funniest part about this too, you can get planet coaster and planet zoo on G2A for both $6.99 lol and this dude is talking about how it’s $40.
I play Planet Coaster on a 9-year-old Xbox One and it still runs great.

But overall I disliked the square paths, the AI, the limited park size, roller coaster design and tracks that I even tried to make my own roblox themepark in roblox studio (but obviously I abandoned them because they take a lot of work to make)
ALTHOUGH since TPT2 still gets updates, i would rate it at a B. Its still very limited though
A Roller Coaster list without Bullfrogs "Theme Park" can never be considered complete. You're missing out on 85mb of greatness right there.

@@Doofles even theme park tycoon 2 has a workshop nowadays 😂
In planet coaster u can select sections of track already built and you can auto smooth banking, turns, etc. making it look much cleaner
The pre-built elements work well, but even with the auto smooth, the transitions are still quite abrupt in my opinion.
I’m happy to see that Theme Park Tycoon 2 is on here and that it got it’s due respect, it’s my personal favorite theme park game and it’s the one I’ve been actively playing the longest (since 2014!). I could probably go on for hours about all the things I love about this game but I’ll just list my most favorite aspects:
The smooth feature can only do so much. Track transitions will always be noticeable due to the way the coaster builder functions.
my favorite is Thrillville: Off The Rails. It is very unrealistic but so fun! You can build coasters, play arcade games, and even manage your own park. The game has so much imagination if you like that it is worth checking out
I played this once but it was like a 2DS Version or something and there weren't any custom coaster builders
ha I picked that up for the Wii for $3. Definitely ridiculous lol
my favorite as well, i spent so much time playing that on the wii
Loved this video! I think most ratings make sense with the criteria you gave - especially the mobile RCT games though, of course.
Thanks for watching! Big fan of your videos.
Nothing beats a good rollercoaster game, particularly the ones designed by Chris Sawyer (RCT 1 & 2).
Great video! The only change I'd make is swapping RCT1 and RCT2, and I would also make a category below "beyond bad" and put RCT World there. Lol
Planet coaster is overflowing with content. You can spend months on one park in sandbox mode
Definitely a little offended by the low placement of Planet Coaster and RCT3 as these were the games I grew up with and that got me into themeparks, but I respect your opinion. Good video!
Still some of my favorite games, despite the rankings. Thanks for watching!
Planet Coaster also has the smoothing feature. He must have missed it
@@jacobw793 yeah but it isn’t pre-determined for track smoothness, it’s like the pre-update.
@@jacobw793 I knew that but it automatically does it for you, you don’t gotta go back over it and spam the smoothen button
The reason to why your transitions in TPT2 is because it doesn’t automatically apply a heartline and you have to use different techniques for smooth transitions. There are countless videos about it on UA-cam. Otherwise great video.
the logic used in this video is hilarious
no way youve ranked a roblox game higher then planet coaster
that "roblox game" is better than planet coaster.
@@shamrock6975 no its not💀
@@יהונתןצוראריה Have you even played it or are you just being bias because its a roblox game
@@יהונתןצוראריהyes it is
next you have to rate planet coaster 2 it is coming in the fall so maybe do it in the winter
@@RPKraul No announcements, but the signs point towards it being pretty likely.
Thank you so much for pointing this out! I have a crappy computer and i was wondering how that would work. This helped so much.
NGL Theme Park Tycoon 2 is up there as one of the best Roblox games EVER created.
NatteRavn
Theme park inc was the shit🤙 I remember the whole intro of the game even
The thing that makes the Roblox coaster builder so good is that unlike planet coaster you can change the piece length to any length rather than being above 4 meters and in 1 meter increments. That makes it super easy to make way smoother coasters than planet coaster. I love the coaster builder and it’s only rivaled by no limita
Can I ask why you didn't include a category like "Economic simulation"? Except the NoLimits 2, all the other games are "Tycoon" games, not only coaster builders.
that would be a very interesting point of comparison, just by itself.
That's a valid point. I enjoyed the comparison!
To really get a better feeling of the game, you definitely need most gamepasses, which costs about 15$
Apart from that, it would have been nice to include scenery and park building in the final rating for each game
I’m glad you had respect for theme Park Tycoon 2 Because:
It’s has less to work with compared to these other games
It’s built by one person
It can only do so much because it’s run on Roblox where other games also run.
I dunno... maybe it's just me, but I might have given Planet Coaster a slightly better score simply because I don't find the faults as annoying as some... I wouldn't put it as a solid A, but I'd bump it into the B range. :) Other than that, I agree with your ratings. You clearly laid out the pluses and minuses of each and gave a fair assessment to them all.
The fact that theme park tycoon 2 released drop track before 90% of the game on this list is some thing very wild for a free Roblox game
Make a sort of 'rough draft' of your desired layout, delete segments that feel off and use auto-connect, works wonders
B) I actually think all the Gamepasses (except Jukebox now due to a universal Roblox update) are actually quite essential.
Thanks for watching!
to make actual smooth rides in planet coasters just delete the portion you want to smooth and use the auto complete feature
Planet Coaster C? That is criminal
I love the game, but that's how it ranked with my criteria. It's just my opinion though and doesn't mean it's a bad game.
@@Doofles I think you put way too much emphasis on price. Spending $50 or so on a game is nothing these days.
@TurboSpeedWiFi That may be true for some triple A titles, but most of the games I'm comparing it to are between $0-$30.
@@Doofles Yes but Planet Coaster is more fun that 90% of triple A titles these days.
There's also INDOORLANDS, plus an old PC game called ULTIMATE RIDE!
It was one of the laggiest parks I could find on the steam workshop, but I love how much detail it has. Thanks for watching!
Crikey.. don't try loading ANY of the parks of mine from the Workshop then.. Even my i9 cries when I try...
Man ranking the Roblox game above Planco and giving Planco a 7 is such a disservice to what you can do in that game
Ultimate Coaster X needs a force vector designer ASAP imo
atleast scenery would have had to be covered in this video
Also with Theme Park Tycoon 2, there have been some more recent updates that have really added to realism with general building & theming creating infinite possibilites with advanced building & resizing. As well as an updated roller coaster editing feature where it autosmooths the track to be less jolty and less-planet coastery. Great video!
the ride operations gamepass literally allows you to do ANYTHING with the coaster
i know its semi- expensive but for its price its extremely good
@@chipdip2066 I mean, all of the game passes in the game. Probably add to about $20, I have all of them and they are really useful
@@mackmgb8017 not even mentioning the switch track glitch which allows you to make tracks with intersections

You forgot Ultimate Ride. Had a pretty neat coaster builder.
Glad I'm not the only one who remembers it!
@@bwc1976 i still have it in a stack of cds... man im old ha
And Disney ultimate ride 2
The thing I would change in the score on planet coaster in the smoothness and add that there is a smoothing button to make your transitions not so hard
To emphasize even more the 10/10 scores to the builder and realism of NoLimits 2: I've used the game myself to gather data and develop my graduation project in civil engineering! Not only that, it has also been used in a masters degree thesis on analyzing real coaster designs :D Definitely worth giving it a look!
That's awesome!
I love that you gave the rightfully deserved respect to Parkitect! Such a gem of a game!
FRRR
Good vid also tpt2 is pretty good but it needs station updates and other stuff the game is so fun because you can play with other people butt no limits 2 is realistic and it’s pretty good tpt2 10/10 no limits 100/10 a
Also I love your racer reborn vid and also I like the music also the hellbeast vid is AWESOME thanks for the amazing vids woofles
TPT2 Is Such A Good Game. Advanced etitor is so easy to use. its insane how much time is put into some parks. It is truly amazing.
Thanks for watching!
I remember having one in the late 90's or early 2000's called Ultimate Ride, which was the first one I ever saw that offered a first person point of view of the rides.
Never heard of it. I'll look into it. Thanks for watching!
Because of openrct2 I think rct2 easily becomes the best game hands down
I was waiting for someone to mention it . Open rct2 is king when it comes to park building. No limits is great for ultra realistic roller coasters
*Talks about dlc costing more then the game
**Chuckles in Payday 2**
Man, so glad Parkitect is getting recognition. Super underrated! If you love the RCT games, you'll love parkitect, it's like that but more polished, but also runs easily with no problems! Perfect theme park game in my opinion!
i have a soft spot for theme park tycoon 2
i have a chain of parks that I started all the way back in 2016 and all of them grew real big so you can tell i spent wayy too much time in this game
I thought it was weird how you said RCT3 crashes a lot and has bugs, because I never had those problems and I have a relatively new laptop
used to be an awesome game on appstore called coaster crazy, unfortunately the game is not avalible to download anymore, was a childhood favorite
Theme Park Tycoon 2 is insane because if you look at it now it is nearly a different game as everything gets more realistic all the time as the developer updates it each month
It’s odd that RCT2 is lower than the first, considering it’s an actual upgrade. But I love your ranking though! Keep up the great work
Agreed. RCT2 did everything RCT1 did but better and added more. The rest of the rankings I am on board with.
The thing with NoLimits is that it's used to make real coasters, by real coaster designers. I think that's why it's so expensive
you forgot about thrillville its on the wii tho
you definitely need to look at some of the theme park tycoon 2's recreation of real life roller coasters and extremely well built parks. they are astonishing!
Where can I find these?

i can’t believe you added tpt2, however i think the builder should definitely be higher especially with the new features they added where yo can make the ride much more smooth, specifically into transitions
Dam forgot Parkitect existed
I think Planet coaster should DEFINENTLY be ranked in the B or even A tier, you can get it for way cheaper and that cheapness is almost 7 dollars! It's basically kinda buying a code to buy the game on steam and the code is way cheaper than the actual game itself.
I got planet coaster and all the dlc's on sale for 75.50 definitly get it on memorial day weekend
