- Gems love dust, fingerprints, dirt and water. and by nature have properties that make them sticky and prone to attracting surface grime. These rare gems can get dirty rather quickly and if not cared for properly can have a negative impact on your once special ring. When a special ring is contaminated it loses it sparkle/brilliance because it becomes clouded with debris and light that was freely traveling in and out of the diamond to create its sparkle. How Your Ring Gets Dirty
-Do not shower with your engagement ring (or jewelry for that matter), apply lotions, or wash hands frequently. Creams and soaps will create a film on your diamond and hard water will also leave water spots on the diamond from frequent washing. This also goes for applying makeup with your fingers while your ring is on, cooking, etc... Essentially anything touching the ring can add to the dirt.
-Do not engage in physical activities like going to the gym with your ring on. Not only will it dirty it can become easily damaged as well.
-Touch the ring as minimally as possible. Our hands have natural oils in them and carry dirt that diamonds are attracted to. When you touch the ring often it will leave a build up on the surface. If you do need to take it on and off hold it gently from the band area. Do not take it off while touching the top of the stone as this will leave fingerprints and smudges.
At Home Cleaning Tips for your Ring
If you don't have jeweler cleaner just take some hot water and add a bit of liquid dish soap to a bowl or cup.
Let the ring soak in the solution for about 2-3 minutes. Leaving it in longer can hurt the metal and may eat away at it with frequent use. After letting it soak, gently brush all around including the underside of the ring with a very soft brush or toothbrush. Scrub softly as you do not want to jar any stones loose in the process. Make sure to clean well beneath the stone because there is a lot of build up there. Carefully brush the top of the ring along with the sides as well. Let it air try or pat it dry with a microfiber cloth and you are good to go! If you have a coffee maker that creates steam you can also leave the ring near the steam to loosen the dirt further.

Don't ever take your ring off to wash your hands in a public bathroom. I knew someone who did that and forgot to put it back on and walked out. She realized it a few minutes later, but the ring was already gone.

I took my wedding ring off at a hotel I was staying at while working out of town. House keeping said they didn’t see it when I called and realized I left it on the sink
This happened to me once I was super buzzed at a packed night club! Luckily it was still there when I went back for it but biggest scare ever I sobered up reaaal quick after realizing 🤣
I never take mine off. I move around a lot at work and have to keep my hands clean, they stay on my hands for sure. I'd be heart broken if I lost my rings.

I use lemon yellow multi purpose cleaner with dawn soap and I rinse with water and no scrub but gentle on my jewelry

Be careful with home ultrasonic cleaners though, the vibrations can be strong enough to loosen micropave. As what happened to mine, even designers are not exception such as David Yurman.

Hi, for any silver jewelry I recommend getting a silver cleaner. I found that those have always worked best!

10k silver and its a birthstone gem I believe it’s blue topaz, they use a couple in mine, I’m in December but I’m pretty sure I remember it being blue topaz
Kayluhh KillzXO everyday might scratch the silver a bit so I’d recommend a Silk cleaning cloth like used for glasses, that’d make the silver and stone shine without the extra damage to the silver ❤️

Even if you clean it the way you do, there is still gunk in the under part! Jewellers use ultrasonic baths which can give a better clean than your method!

First of all you shouldn't be using any type of toothbrush or brush or anything abrasive on your diamond it will scratch it
A soft toothbrush and gentle scrubbing will work fine. Diamonds cannot be scratched by that
