We think we have found the Centre of UK Van Life and it comes in the shape of Castleton in the Peak district. Situated beneath Mam Tor and parallel with Winnats pass, it is the perfect location for a campervan or motorhome wildcamp parkup.

Beutiful scenary I just got back on monday from a week in Llandudno and it is beutiful there to very similar scenery, we went up a huge hill called great orme

Your in Matlock - Castleton my old stomping ground - I was Born & bred in Castleton, met Karen in the Bulls Head New Years eve back in 1980 - I worked at cement works for 48 years & took early retirement back in 2017-

We love this spot though, was one of our faves to visit of a weekend when we lived in Manchester. Castleton is great for cakey treats 😁.

Haha, I was parked behind your van in a sprinter....white. I did move away for a few hours to return....in fact I saw and recognised David's voice as you were filming walk-in into Castleton. Never saw you again else I would have said hello....I spent Fri/Saturday night there. Fantastic place as my wife and I have used it a lot this year. All the best guys👍
Haha it’s a small world. We never know when someone is going to spot us. Our channels tiny though so it’s only happened a few times but nice when it does. Hopefully we will see you again. Will be great to say hi 😀

Castleton, never been there, it looks lovely, especially the George Inn. Tessie looks really cheesed off for not having beer 😂. How come we’ve never heard of the devil’s arse, it looks amazing, we need to visit there!!! David, stop laughing at Claire 😂. We have made loads of footage of floors and skies when we have hit record when thinking stop and vice versa. Loved the stone bit on the top of Mam Tor, looks stunning. Tell Lilly to walk!!! We can absolute recommend it if you are visiting the Peaks as there is a lot to see and just a lovely vibe around the place. Haha I never thought about the play on words there. Great work with the Double Entendres 😂 thanks for watching guys 😊 think we have some catching up to do with yours 😊

We love Castleton, it used to be our go to place when we lived in Yorkshire , we were just 30 mins away. Did you know that they used to carry the dead from Edale to be buried at Castleton Church over the Mam Tor ridge . You seemed to skating on thin ice for a fair bit of this video Dave 😂😂😂. New camera looks like it’s working well guys . K9 sports sack for Lilly ? , you could try her in Poppy’s when we meet if you like. We used to run up Winnets Pass when we were Marathon training 15 ish years ago 🥺. Have you tried the Malteser Cake from the Pevril Bakery yet ? , if not next time it’s a must. We really enjoyed that video guys well done H and M
I must admit that this doesn’t paint me in the best light as Clare’s outburst and the other side mysteriously didn’t record 😂 glad you enjoyed it (no click bait in this one 😂) that would be amazing to try the rucksack - we said about getting one but want to make sure it works for her first 😊 yes it’s working well - although some of the footage is still the Insta which In some situations we still prefer

Hi thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. Our awning is attached beneath the High Top so not effected by what’s on top of it. I’m wondering if it depends on the type of high top and awning. Ours came ready installed on the van by Leisuredrive. I know they retro fit things so might be worth contacting them to ask.
Love Castleton. We stayed at the C&MH Club site there for 2 nights in January for my 60th Birthday. Was our first trip out in a motorhome. We loved the many pubs in Castleton. Didn't do Man Tor or the caves. We had dogs with us too. I do have one question. What was the situation with parking up on that road with a campervan? IE does it say campervans and motorhomes can park there overnight? Or is it classed as wild camping and therefore illegal? Be interested to know for sure. I wouldn't want to fall foul of the law if we stayed there in the future.
Hi Andrew, thanks for watching. At the time of writing, there are no parking restriction signs on that road. My understanding is that this means their are no by laws prohibiting the sleeping in a motor vehicle there. If there was a sign saying no sleeping in vehicles or no overnight parking then I would not park there. In the absence of any signs, my understanding is that it would be allowed.
@@DolittleCampers I was lead to believe that if there aren't signs saying we can park overnight, then isn't that classed as wild camping? Because you theoretically don't have the land owners permission. Isn't that why you cannot just pitch up overnight in a layby on an A road for instance?
@@Andy.Gledhill.Models. in terms of legality, I’m not going to say you or I are right as I am not qualified to say for sure. The one thing I can guarantee from experience is that neither we or anyone we know has ever had a knock and been asked to move on when parking somewhere without any overnight parking restrictions
@@DolittleCampers Yeah. I suppose they can just ask you to move on. I expect at beauty spots like Castleton, they know a lot are going to stop overnight. If they started to turn people away. Then that would affect tourism in the area.
Did you have a picnic or EVEN A DRINK FOR THOSE DOGS...don't think so.
The dogs don’t eat picnics as their main meals are morning and evening, they have treats whilst we are out and about. I can assure you the dogs always have water with them. Our dogs are better looked after than a lot of children. Thank you for your concern though, it’s much appreciated 👍🏻😊
