Part 2 of the Nirvana retrospective review of Nirvana Unplugged. - Розваги
Your viewership numbers aren’t a reflection of the quality of your videos on the Unplugged Session. They’re both incredible.
I REALLY appreciate your level of interest in this subject and I feel maybe a little less alone. I appreciate you, Charles. Thank you.
Yes said so spot on!
My thoughts exactly!
Don't feel discouraged, Fox. Your work stands out among the rest regardless of numbers. As a Nirvana fan who still remembers the meteoric rise and fall of Kurt Cobain; who still vividly remembers the day he died; who cried while watching the Unplugged show as a 15 year old kid, I appreciate this more than you could ever know.
It's funny how the older generation will say they will always remember where there were wen they found out JFK was shot. My generation will never forget where they were wen they heard Kurt was killed. I was on my way to baseball practice. I cried and couldn't bring myself to go.
He said “just kidding” off the mic to Dave, didn’t notice it til several commentators pointed it out on a yt short.
That last look was everything for my soul and after it aired I was forever transformed into the mountain mama Nirvana I am today. Nothing will ever compare. NOTHING
I'll never forget the first time I listened to Where Did You Sleep Last Night (before the video version came out): I remember where I was and the violent storm of emotions I felt.
When eventually the video came out, that last look became everything to me too. So... I get you ❤❤❤
wow
Aw I totally agree 100% 🥰
Gets me every time
"Where did you sleep last night?" didn't seem to be just a song on this cold November night, but a direct question to his wife. Whom he knew was cheating on him at the time. He wanted to buy Leadbelly's guitar for $500,000, the one he played his song on sold for 6 MILLION. Kurt, I think you surpassed your favorite performer. Chills forever.
I am at awe of how Kurt was a mature deep thinker. I consider myself quite intelligent and bright but his poetry, his mind was way ahead of his age. Some things he knew, noticed I realized only after I was 30. He was a genius. Period.
💯
The amount of views this mini series gets is not an indicator of the quality. These have been some of my favorite videos of yours in a while and I’ve been watching for years. These came out at a time when i needed to see them. Excellent videos Charles!
I found this album on my 1st Walkman, for kids it's a cd player that u can listen to and carry around, my uncle was diagnosed with cancer that had spread and was given months if that to live. I listened to this on repeat. It blew me away. Most bands did a usual all popular, hits etc. Kurt sat down and played mostly covers and still did the best show ever. If WDYSLN does not give u chills and u can't feel every note in urr body, somethings off cause it's just amazing. It led me to Huddie Ledbetter and the blues, then bluegrass etc. Us alive in our teens truly had the best years for all entertainment, but in music that Kurt, Layne, Chris, and Eddie made it was the greatest time in music and always will be for this Gen X. Now I know what the big deal was when Hank sang, then Elvis. When u can feel the music and it stays with u its a wonderful gift. I will pit 1st on repeat for u Charles. Well get the numbers up. With all the What is a woman documentary being #1, the bud light target selling goods endorsed by ppl who belong in a Asylum, and Don getting in trouble cause they scared for 2024, there's been alot of craziness.
2:31 Just after Kurt says "Shut up" to Dave, he says "just kidding" very quietly. I never realized that until very recently.
Excellent video! It's true value might not be understood by everyone including Kurt Cobain fans but that's OK. Not everybody in Kurt's personal life fully understood him either.
Where Kurt was at as opposed to from whence he came in context of who he really was is so up front and apparent in his performance of Lake of Fire.
Kurt hit his spot on place artistically. He made a great personal achievement. He found his blues style and was playing from his heart and soul. It's easy to learn some blues of other artists and play it but here he is communicating his own blues from within out to everybody and it is awesome! And this is not something that's easy for every musician to do.
I have to say that I do not see a suicidally depressed individual here. What I see is an individual who knows who he is and is going in the direction he wants to go, escaping personal confines and setting himself free. His soul is coming out in his voice and his playing and he's free!
It's like a butterfly emerging from his cocoon having once been a caterpillar and is flying free.
I'm sure he would have left nirvana and gone in a separate direction.
Awesome video!!! Thanks!
Wow, I really appreciate your focus on the cellist too!
So glad Kurt got His way with the Meat Puppets. He knew He was making the right Decisions from start to finish. That is what makes this my favourite Unplugged. Second Alice In Chains simply cause Laynes Voice is one i love but the pureness of Nirvanas Wins it for Me.
Charles I just want you to know that you have really done an amazing job on all of your Kurt Cobain content as well as many other ones as well. In the city where I live in Ontario🍁 there are so many young people that are wearing Nirvana shirts, accessories, and blasting their music. It's great to see how after all these years how Kurt's music continues to live on 😊
“The results are always perfect but that’s old news”
Geez bro, these were great, it’s hard to convey to younger folks what the 90’s were like, graduating hs 94, by 2000 most of our favorite bands suffered mass tragedy.
Part one was cool though, to me it was like one of the best reviews of the Unplugged show.
Don’t be disheartened, you never disappoint and I don’t think you realise how much people look forward to your videos and content. I feel like if any justice is ever served it will be down to you. Keep going man!
S
Do not lose heart my friend. Yr info and opinions are top notch sir.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ GREAT JOB!!!
I am so sorry. I could hear the discouragement in your voice when you announced not many people watched Part I, but you were appreciative of all of the kind and ❤ing comments. @americanspyfox!!!! CONCENTRATE ON THOSE COMMENTS and appreciation from us who really have been there to see your work and you and your work evolve. LOOK AT THAT. ABSORB It!!! Make it your STRENGTH! You are an extremely passionate and talented journalist!
Think of all our rock stars and artists we all know and love who were told "No" over and over!!!! The ones who were told they were not talented... the shows that only produced small crowds.
I HOPE YOU FIND ENCOURAGEMENT IN this community you built. Because that is what you did. You built a whole community around our love for grunge and seeking justice for Kurt.
Think about the bit where Kurt felt the silence of the crowd was a que that the performance wasn't well received.
I just speak truth and light over your life at this time. This is your time to shine.
As cheesy as that may sound.
You got this.
I have always loved that version of Dumb too and appreciated the Celo round it too. Definitely a great addition.
So beautiful voice,unforgettable!😊🥰😇
My favourite version of Something In The Way. Love Kurts voice here and the pure rawness.
Have you heard the story on how it was recorded? It’s super interesting. I can’t remember what interview or channel it was on. But it was right here on youtube somewhere😊
Hey my fellow fox fans, next time you're not using your phone pull up episode one and just let it play to get Charlie's view numbers up on that one cuz he spent alot of time compiling and editing it. Its the least we can do for Ol SpyFox
He ain't dead
Part 1 was really
Great man, maybe it will pick up views later when u least expect it…like another person said on here already one of best reviews of my fav u plugged ever!! Thank u!!
I commented the same thing on his Patreon 😊
Note that while the recording of the show may not have appeared while Cobain was alive, the performance of "All Apologies" was played as a music video starting in February of 1994. I remember seeing it, and the VJ saying something like "No apologies necessary. That was great!"
Dumb is my favorite Nirvana song. Thank you for this!
I love these episodes. Your insights into Kurt Cobain the man, not just the rock star, provides those of us who were fans from go to whoa with so much more than the media garbage that has been spouted for so many years. Thank you.
Dude he plaínly was joking, Kurt loved Dave and krist, most people don't get Kurt's dry Sense of humor, kinda like the melvins
These were great works I could keep watching. I've always loved the Nirvana Unplugged and you reviewed it perfectly. You captured those moments in time like we were all there for the show. I don't think Kurt was done, seems like he would take a break and come back with fresh ideas for new music. Thank you for all you do ASF
This is by far the best fucking narration that I have ever listened to! Absolutely legendary Fox.
Your investigation and compilation of the Cobain case has been top notch and probably the most comprehensive and well put together of it I've seen. It led me to find the basis for the suspicions I held surrounding it and for that you deserve success for such a consistent degree of scholarly dedication. I bet it's difficult to change direction from that scope here on this channel since it's how most of us found you, but I think that the majority of those who subscribe here will appreciate whatever direction you decide to take and I hope you can feel confident doing so, and receive enough support when branching out into different topics. It's analogous to the way musicians must eventually change their sound in order to avoid remaining stagnant. Even if some people don't like it, it has to be done!
I see a man who was so amazed at what he did
Your unplugged reflections are amazing my man! I loved this one and AIC! Your storytelling is superb and don’t get why this series didn’t do well? Keep up the great work!
Charles, your unplugged revision and the breakdown of each song is extraordinarily. 🎼
So is your blonde hair! I'm going blonde, too!
That was really really good!!!! Loved it!!!
I loved part 1 and i'm happy to finally have the time to watch part2... I'm rom France, very little town in the center- south of the country! I really love your all channel and I want to thank you for all the work you have done over the years to provide quality contents to us! I hope this is understandable, of course english is not my first language!
There was tension between Kurt and Dave with Penny Royal Tea, from the moment Kurt asked if he was going to do it himself til the "shut up" at Dave after the song. It's like they left him out there alone. Kurt was pretty tense singing it.
Off subject but damn I’m so glad youtube had your channel show up on my account! I have packed up and moved in here. I love it here. I’m obsessively watching every single nirvana video and learning so much. For the past 4 days it’s literally all I’m doing. At work, at home, cooking dinner, taking shower, brushing teeth, washing clothes. Like non stop. Thank you!!! It’s awesome here❤
The first video didn’t perform well? That sucks, I enjoyed it. I was choked when it was obvious there was another part coming later because I wanted it to keep going. Enjoying this part as well. Good job.
Thanks Spyfox, great content as always! Cheers.
I thoroughly enjoyed both 1 & 2 of these! Some of ur best work, u are a pro writer! Sincere and Kurt-like observationalist, nice research accuracy too..... U do ur homework, thanx
Charles, I love how you can put youself into someone else's shoes and get "the intended" meaning from it. After you find these truths, I think, yeah, he's right about that, but I didn't think of it myself. Really enjoyed this look back at unplugged. Great work! You know you're right.
7:56 It never ceases to amaze me how many people miss the meanings of such things. In a similar vein, the song "Possession" by Sarah McLaclan was about her experiences with a stalker, and people tend to think that is a romantic song.
This is excellent Charles! Great work ♥️
I loved this. Lost track of what year I found you. But always great Content
Nice job again...well worth the wait as usual IMO...I hate hearing things like this refered to as a story, Kurt Cobain was a living breathing person and this was his life.
Charles,
Part one was incredible! I went into the video thinking “what kind of important information will I learn here? I watched the performance over a dozen times! What will I really learn about the performance???”
My brother, I was so wrong! You have so much inside information in both videos!!! I loved them both! Excellent documentary, you should be proud of yourself!!!
Stevie Ray Luebbert 🎶🎸🎶🥁
I love how in this series you spoke of the life people think an artist lives vs. The life they really live. I know what its like to play my guitar for 8 hours straight every day. The burning of my forearms. The calouses on my fingers that are so thick now that they are actually visible longer than my other hand. I am sorry this series didn't do as well you would have liked. I think you are very talented. I agree with alot of your opinions. I wish there were more people in our world that were just honest to God good hearted individuals. I will always be a fan and hope to one day send some love aka $ your way to show you how I feel. Non the less I do watch alot of your videos and if anyone ask or the opportunity arises I will happily recommend ASF as a channel to check out.
Great job on both these. I really enjoyed them, thank you for sharing and all your hard work on all of your vlogs. Have a great day my friend and thank you again.
I always enjoy your content. Don’t mind those that make negative comments. You take the time and present always really well.. rock on.🤟🏻🎸
3:50 keep your chin up dude! Kurt knew why he did everything he did! Total agreement about DUMB, not many people look into his intelligence enough! POLLY...I have no words😢 yes I do, empathy is he
This was great! Really denoted how you did this series on such a great show. Well done sir. 😎💚✊✨🎸
Very well done
Nothing short of greatness per usual!
Great video as always.
Loved part 1. Now onto part 2...
Dude Courtney was just on a podcast for the ringer “songs that explain the 90s” and she ADMITTED that “live through this” “doll parts” were written for in utero!!! Major major major news!!! Check it out man
Glad I caught this. Now I need to watch part one ❤❤❤
... dude... I loved both videos... I don't know why it may not have done so well at least the first video... But again I fucking loved it!! In my humble opinion... You knocked it out of the park man 🤘🏽
These were really great reviews Charles. Could watch them all day! ❤
Not everyone likes everything!! I liked it and this one!! Keep your head up and keep kicking butt!!
I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to comment earlier when I listened to the video. I’m on the road a lot, so I often don’t get to take the time.
I made a point to come back to this one though. Something struck me during the opening. When you were talking about the performance of Part 1.
I’d taken for granted of what you’re doing here over the years. I want to do my part to support the channel, because it’s meant a whole hell of a lot to me and you’re only getting better.
We share a passion for the diamond in the rough era of popular culture. You know, I may have to bite and it and get into patreon because if there’s someone worth a streamer subscription, I’d say it’s you.
You’re getting better all the time and I believe you can finally get the information out on a broader scale. You once did a poll asking if you should redo the nirvana series and I was surprised when it was turned down.
Let’s face it. We’re all going to rewatch the original series anyway. That’s our version. It had an almost poetic grunge demo tape-like quality to it that I really appreciate.
But as you stand as a content creator, I think it’s fully within your ability to knock it out of the park with a compelling, digestible for mass consumption version that could be a real hit and get some significant traction.
Pull a Nevermind, dude.
Hi there.. I just watched this again mainly because I love the music and especially the end song-- when Kurt goes into the gasping, grasping, gaping, growling, grunt-filled voice.
It sends shivers down my spine, so amazing was he. He must have restrained himself until the very end. Great review Charles. I liked both numbers 1 and 2. Merci beaucoup
Great job again, please keep making great content like this series. You are appreciated!
Your videos are always so well done❤This one was no exception.😊
Sucks this series didn't perform how you wanted it to, I really enjoyed it, thank you
I liked part 1 bro... but I'd like for you to spit some more good vids about the murder of kurt cobain again and maybe some good live chats talking only about the murder!!! Let us ask you some questions before hand and let's get into it deep bro
Yeah I miss the lives so much! Him & Brittany together I wouldn't miss a live chat
The silence after the show was probably a kin to Jimmy Braddock walking into the Madison Square Garden Bowl to fight Max Baer. Kurt was a hero too.
Sorry the video didn't get the views you expected but I really enjoyed the first part and was waiting for part 2 for days after I saw it so I'm really glad you did it
That last look still gives me a chill to this day.
I think part 1 was very well done!! Excellent job.
Hello Gregory and Diana. Hope urr enjoying this back when moment is our past. It was and is such a great moment that still feels so good even 30 years later.
I saw them a few days before this in Buffalo NY. They had the Japanese punk band the Boredoms come out and play Teen Spirit at the end. Two drum sets and dualing guitars. I was 15 going on 16. November 1993. The Boredoms were the openers and closers with Nirvana.
Fucking brilliant treatise. This concert was a highly developed forethought which gave the viewer a little bit of Kurt in repose and energy-filled defiance. .
With dreams come, guffaws and rasping for life when it's all you have. Excellent review American Spy Fox😅
Watched both of these, fantastic stuff man as always
Excellent footage...great work American spy fox!
I sure wish Kurt could've hung on in life 🌼 i would of loved for him to've seen how; as time had gone on...what great work he had produced.
His great accomplishment of himself...AND to the music world.
He would have been proud.
God bless his heart.
Yip I agree. I don't think Kurt cared How it looked. To mot even have a chair sorted. I think He knew the Performance was so on Cue the surroundings were irrelevant to Kurt.
This deserves so many more views! Very well done
It might not be as popular, but I liked them. I've lernt alot from you.
Fabulous!
I know I’ve already commented on this video & part1 but just watching & listening to This performance after learning all those unknown truths about Kurt sure does leave a lump in your throat..
Like my whole picture album portraits him, amongst some of others in my Pinterest as “Kurt Musical Genius” that HE will be eternalised in.. which he deserves to be..
You've done a great job! ✌
You did an excellent job on this video Charles! It made me happy to watch because you presented it so well. Musical clips too! I think your take and perspective in your comments was on the mark, and I agree.
In a way, I think this performance was about Kurt's farewell to his marraige with Courtney Love. From the set list, to the track titles and the stories within them, as well as the stage appearance - all resembling that of a funeral... or the death of a relationship. He didn't look unhappy to me, but appeared both serious and relaxed at the same time.
As far as the songs with the Meat Puppets, I think they're the best part of the UNPLUGGED album! I hadn't even heard them until recently, and they're just awesome!
L. Isgrig in Northern, CA - 07/02/23
Loved them both man 👍🏻
I really enjoyed part 1 😢
That series is cool!
We miss you, homeslice!
Great video, was waiting for it, love your work, kick ass
I love the way kurt keeps time with his jaw.
Ok
Another awesome video 👌
I know I'm only person, but I really appreciate the videos.
I think you should change the thumbnail to a picture from Nirvana Unplugged. I want to see Kurt sitting with the acoustic wearing that iconic green sweater. It would suit the vid better imo.
Great video Fox
That was great man! Thank you so much for your everytime awesome content.
The guy in the crowed said "kumbaya", not hurry up 😋
Cheers from France
Great video as always ❤
I truly believe kurt would have eventually gotten clean and would still be here today if Courtney Love hadn't set him up to be murdered!
Maybe, too depressing... 80’s Metal was fun, this shot is sad as f;ck, slow boring and sad...
Amazing review
Fox, completely unrelated question brother but, if may I ask, what is the best more grounded and down to earth realish book about Nirvana and Kurt that exists, is it the Michael Azerrad book? I know Cross book is mostly garbage and I don't know about the goldberg one, can you help me brother? I remember you mentioning this and talking about it a little bit on one of your Kurt series but I miss it and can't find the exact video, I would really appreciate it.
As for the videos, I love the Unplugged and your videos, like always, are great companions to the actual thing but maybe some people don't really appreciate the unplugged or just don't find it that deep, which it is, either way pls continue doing what you do, you're doing a great service to his memory and are always entertaining.
Peace, Fox!
I love the version of Polly on the from the muddy banks album
I can hear it
Me too
