- Emboldened by its success against the Bohemian Revolt, Emperor Ferdinand now sought to press into the Protestant Heartland of Lower Saxony. The minor princes of the region looked to Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden and Christian IV of Denmark for protection. Christian, with backing from England, Scotland and the Netherlands, responded and declared war on 9th May, 1625.

Can I just commend you for these videos? A lot of pretty well researched map painter videos end up simulating some kind of 'territoriality' that has only existed since the later parts of the modern era when showcasing war; you'll see this on videos of the conquest of the spanish americas, napoleonic wars, expansion of the Roman Empire etc when in reality the battles and their political outcomes really were more important and gives a better picture of contemporary geopolitical events. Thats why i think you really do a great job; you focus more on treaties, context etc and give a secondary importance to map painting. Kudos!

Great video, very interesting to watch! What about the Treaty of Königsberg from 22 May 1626 where Elector Georg Wilhelm of Brandenburg had his arm twisted in joining the Imperial side allowing Imperial troops to quarter on Brandenburg territory?
Edit: I can't find any information on it aside from Christopher Clark's Iron Kingdom (p. 22) (he doesn't name the treaty). Happened to be reading that book right now otherwise, I wouldn't have noticed/known.

The Dutch were already fighting the Habsburg Spanish side for 50 years when the 30 years war broke out. Same reason: religious oppression, on top of that also high taxes and silly trading limitations.

I just thought that you made map of whole Europe and then made animations on whole map, and then you just zoom parts on which action has been going, because of the transition in one part of part 1 (from Bohemia to Palatinate), and in meantime added layers on which the army was moving and layer for the events.

The movement of the armies occasionally seems really fast.
@Wasted Viking: Maybe, but it's sometimes still a bit jarring when one army moves much faster than in most of the video. E.g. at about 1:56 Christian retreats to northern Jutland really fast relative to most of the movements (though maybe he used ships).

@@seneca983 3 days with ship, from Kiel to northern Jutland sounds pretty logical, and the fact that he was escaping makes it more reasonable

What was the smallest HRE state?
The river Elbe is totally wrong . It flows through Dresden (correct). But is does flow through Prague before (as Moldau), is does not go to Berlin at all but near to Dessau (where the Battle of Dessau bridge is named, most likely a brisge over the river Elbe), to Magdeburg and then to Hamburg (here it is correct again) to the North sea. This is a really strange error.

There are some English officers and Regiments (one of them in Mansfeld's) involved in this war, all the way until the English Civil War broiled and erupted

That was the worst war on German soil. More than 1/3 of all civilians died as a result of the war. Considering how small humankind was at the time, more people were dying relative to the population than in WW1 or WW2. The village I came from was completely wiped out in the 30-year war and later repopulated. And humanity just does not learn anything from it. War after war after war. :-(

Technically, this part was really the last part where it was Catholics VS Protestants... For the Bohemian/Palatine and Danish phases were both mainly (but, as can be seen from Saxony's involvement on the Catholics' side during the Bohemian/Palatine phase, not completely) for religious reasons. The Swedish and French phases, on the other hand, were mainly (but still not completely) for political reasons, hence why Ollie Bye put in terms "Habsburgs & Allies VS Anti-Habsburg Forces".
