The new PPX Cal 400 is a 39mm aviation design done in full titanium. It has an excellent bracelet, an in house movement, and comes in 3 different dial colors. This would make a comfortable, robust, daily-wear watch. It becomes available April 2022. Check it out here:

This is an absolute homerun. I don't think I've seen an overall design that was so cohesive at this price-point. And the simple dial works perfectly. People complaining about it have a nonsensical checklist and think "good" watches tick every box. So the Speedy pro sucks because it has a printed dial too then? Please. This is a tool watch, it shouldn't have some fancy polished white gold indices.
The speed master's printed dial I much more thoughtful and refined.
Great sizing and love the case and bracelet. The dial looks a bit flat/cheap to me, applied indices would have made a big difference. The salmon is 🔥
My thoughts exactly. To quote Maxwell Smart, "Missed it by that much!".
Yep
Agreed
I would say the understated look of the dial really completes the appearance of the watch and allows the case and bracelet to shine. It's extremely simple, refined and beautiful in my opinion. The nature of the angular case felt jarring for a second but actually it just looks so cool with it's proportions and sharp lines as well as it's rugged finish. Man, so badass. I can see how it's not for everyone but to me, I feel like this has that magic that is so difficult to achieve in horology. That said in my experience Oris watches always look better onscreen than in real life (I felt similar with the Big Crown Pointer Date until I saw it in the metal, so I will wait to decide whether it goes on my short list).
Couldn't agree more. I think the dial would be ok on a dress watch, but it really doesn't suit the sporty case and bracelet here. The dial really needs some angular applied indices, and lume.
Im in love with this watch, I’m finding this extremely tempting, shame it doesn’t have more dials or colors
Might be the best release I have seen.
This looks killer! Great job by Oris👏👏👏👏
Awesome watch very reminiscent of both the czapek antartique and parmigiani fluerier tonda pf.
It’s a lovely watch. For a bit more the ORIS WATCH BIG CROWN PROPILOT X CALIBRE 115 SKELETON is awesome too!
I wasn't expecting this move from Oris. Looks very interesting indeed.
😊
Digging the haircut, Bruce!
I really like what Oris is doing, especially with this movement and the unique geometric angles used on this model. Having said all this I'm not sure what Oris would have to do to make me leave the other brands that I like much. There is no Oris dealer where I live so I don't have a chance to see their watches. It's a shame.
really like the look of this watch, bracelet and color surely stand out. am not a fan of other oris watches but this definetly is promising.
i think the hands couldve been finished/brushed better. but i dig the bracelet and clasp
There's a black blemish, like a tiny crater, on the bridge of the movement seen through the display case back.
Really interesting case and bracelet, but the aesthetic doesn't match the dial at all. It needs a black dial and bold applied hour markers. The handset could probably do with being rectangular too, rather than relatively thin and pointy.
Cool, angular sports watch case and bracelet, with an incongruous 'dress watch dial'. Needed angular applied indices and lume; it seems like a missed opportunity for something special.
I dig the case, bracelet & clasp. Does the clasp have any micro adjust? Not sold on the dial, but as a whole it's pretty cool.
I don't think it does
Superb watch👌😊😊I loved the buckle.
Great review as usual Bruce! Man i love that clasp!
Its such a great clasp!
Great intro to the new model
I really like the grey dial
Pricier than BB Pro (GMT) but boy does it look good
I am surprisingly drawn to it. It’s definitely Star Trek. And at a good price.
Interesting watch. Not sure about the color. The lug-to-lug distance also looks a tad too much, but I think they are on to something. The design elements of this watch reminds me for some reason of the Zenith Defy line.
Great Video!
I would like to see that bracelet on a big crown pilot
Super review Bruce as always. I try to understand some points:
1. Why 5 days power reserve?
2. Why 10 years warranty period?
All those increases the price to around 4000eu since the indicies are still printed.
If I pay 4000eu I have several opportunities including used ones. What do you think?
Thank you! Oris wanted to push the standard when they released this in house design. So 5 days as standard is more than many other base movements from other makers. A 10 year warranty is also industry leading. You are correct at the 3-4000 level there are a lot of great options. I think this is one of them. But I always say, buy what you feel you would enjoy the most. That is what makes the journey worth it
Working from home in a post covid world the five day power reserve becomes a game changer
Power reserve is so overrated when you only have a date complication. 55 hours is enough.
I like the cease & bracelet design. It'd be better with applied markers.
It’s cool but at this price point I’d go ahead and spring for a globemaster personally - it just looks more elegant to my eyes and can take a beating - makes for a more versatile watch imo
It does remind me of the Globemaster now that you mention it. I think the Globemaster is a bit more expensive though. I am talking new price.
@@michaeledwardlenzi it’s pricier brand new but you can find some killer prices out there even for new pieces - overall, pound for pound, I think the omega is a better buy - for me at least
Fully agree, i initially loved the design but then realized that everything about this Oris apart from new clasp, colors and no Purpan dial is shockingly similar to the GM, which is a better watch considering how much you can find new ones for nowadays
Globemaster is like almost double the price though, I get your point but also still see the Oris as great value for money especially for 20-25%+ discount off RRP
I think they are very different watches. Aside from the bezel (and even then I don't find them that similar. They just seem like entirely different beasts.
I really like this watch especially the salmon dial. Im planning to sell my oris diver 65 to buy this. What do you think?
nice watch ..but heavily ovepriced..yes you have inhouse movement but its not an Omega.. there are a lots of similar options from brands like Reise, Boldr, Formex
lol
looks pretty cool.
Would love to know the lug-to-lug measurement Bruce. Thanks 😊
I despise that dial color but overall it's a good looking watch
I love it🤩
Did you mention the measurements other than the diameter? Would be helpful to know the thickness and the lug to lug as it is a whole new case without a tonne of info yet available.
Shoot I don't think I did. I filmed it over a month ago :/ sorry I don't remember them
Could this dial be any more boring? I absolutely love everything else about this watch: the case, bracelet, clasp, bezel, movement & materials are all 1000%, but my god that dial is a huge miss. It comes off like a complete afterthought. I realize it's subjective, and this is only my opinion, etc. Maybe a go with a lacquer dial? Sun Ray dial? Fume dial? Applied indices? Arabics? Anything that's even remotely visually interesting. This dial, in whichever color, is the aesthetic equivalent of a hospital waiting room!
Yes!
lol yes totally subjective
I think they’re going the Baihaus track as to let the super unique bracelet design shine. Less is more in this case IMHO works.
I disagree personally the juxtaposition of the simple dial next to the complex case and bracelet really makes this interesting for me.
I agree. And for people saying less is more, those hour lines are pretty intrusive and just old fashion. I feel they contrast with the rest of the watch and not in a good way. Subjective, of course. But the dial made it a no from me.
Nice review Bruce! I love Oris but this one doesn’t do much for me. The clasp system is fantastic, Maybe it’s the colour throwing me off..
Do you know if they will offer the optional strap on this one like the original? Would be nice to have both options for versatility.
Will this watch scratch easily?
That color dial for a pilots watch make no sense whatsoever. And the anti reflective treatment doesn't look like it's working in the video. Glad Oris is finally using that movement though!
A very modern looking watch. Fresh designs throughout. Good job Oris.
...I still don't think "lift" should be indicated on the clasp. It's unnecessary.
I think they put “lift” coz it’s a pilot watch and on the plane you see “lift” on the seat belt… this is my assumption
@@esedes1702 Ah. I think I knew that at one point. You're right. Thanks!
Yes, i am getting this…
Moser vibes
Nice watch who makes the movement? Or what is it based on please? Thanks as always
Its in house
@@iamthelaw69 yeah thanks i know it's called inhouse but this is most likely a swiss movement maker that has reworked it a bit for their finishing design, I'll have a look at a few sites to try and find out. Thanks
@@antsfur True in house design. Not based on another caliber
Caliber 400 pretty much pushed ORIS out of my price bracket
Exactly...
I'll take the Sellita
looks like an easter egg
Looks more like Prawn Cocktail Sauce Dial…
What is the weight in grams?
How's the lume?
Its okay, not that great
Is this the caliber that when setting the hands they “jump” when pushing in the crown? Have they corrected that problem?
It's a good question. I'd like to know too. Interestingly an IWC I tried in recently did the same thing apparently its also a think on their in house movement.
@Alephnl can confirm I own it now. No jumping minute hand.
I as daily watch use my rolex 16600. Is amazing eachtime i see the time.. so I don’t have energy to purchase otherones as this oris as daily watch.. hello to all from Italy!
İs that an Oris Kaweco Sport? 😵
Yes, it is sooo good. Bronze too
Comes in at $6000, with tax, here in Canuckistan. Doesn’t lack of applied markers and those very basic painted lines seem below spec for a watch this expensive? Thanks Bruce
Really wish this was a 41. 39 is too small for my 8" wrist, and I'm not a fan of this constant push to smaller watches-- feels like people like me are kinda getting left out.
Have you looked at the original PPX?
@@BruceWilliams I have, and I'd love to try one on my wrist, but my local Oris dealer doesn't have them. Go figure. Also, not a fan of skeletonized dials. It is what it is ultimately.
Lovely looking watch but as always, other than Rolex and Tudor, itw just to big. If they release this in 36mm or even 38mm with applied indices I'll buy straight away ! Won't even think twice !
I don’t see the bear
Absolutely loved the look....u till i realize the almost totally copied the Omega Globemaster
If you think they are the same watch you really haven't looked at the details. For one they have completely different feels.
@@muscularibuprofen69 Agreed, I don't see any Omega in this
I like Oris but if u can afford a 4k watch then u can afford a 5k watch. Gotta go aqua terra. Love salmon dials but this isn't doing it for me.
Looks like a microbrand.
Looks like a Tesla
3000 Eur, they must be mad.
This watch would replace my Watch if it wasn't for the dial - sorry - but how the hell do you put such a cheap dial on this watch?! Every Swatch for $90 looks 1:1 like this. The colour and the watch hands also look EXTREMELY cheap.
First
Meh
Thumbs up for the review but thumbs down for the watch.ugly looking ,looks nothing like a pro pilot.
This is one ugly piece...
nice fake on Oyster Perpetual stella dail ))
Fake? If you think this Oris looks like an Oyster Perpetual buy a decent pair of glasses
@@danielcavatorta3007 from some distance looks the same, yes ))
And Rolex copied the Tiffany blue, whats your point
@@iamthelaw69 Rolex Tiffany came before Patek Tiffany ) but overall all designs are stolen, it is right.
