Seán sa Cheo - The Chieftains, 1978

The Chieftains play live on the opening night of a second television channel for Ireland, RTÉ 2.
The Chieftains are introduced by Terry Wogan at the RTÉ 2 gala opening ceremony at Cork Opera House. Introducing The Chieftains, he says,
They’ve backed people like Paul McCartney and Wings. They’ve played in every major hall worth a name and wherever you go in the world, you’ll hear the applause ringing out for The Chieftains.
The Chieftains perform Seán sa Cheo to rapturous applause.
RTÉ 2 Opening Night was broadcast on 2 November 1978.

My connections to the great Terry Wogan & Chieftains, I received a phone call from Terry just before he passed away, I did not know at the time that he was unwell. 3 members of my family and I appeared on stage with The Chieftains & Van Morrison on their world tour, it was a mist brilliant concert, we were cheered to the rafters after each tune was played and every song sung. The reason we were on stage that night with the band lads was, over 400 too many people were allowed into the concert hall, the management did not turn anyone away so they tried filling up every spare inch of standing space but there just was not enough room so they asked if we would mind going up on stage and standing alongside The Chieftains & Morrison, we found it very hard to refuse, it would have been bad manners and we did not want to create a fuss to we fully complied with this request. I was the only concert that we attended where we were spent post of the nigh looking out on to the audience, it was not possible to see all that was happening on stage right but we got the feeling that all was going brilliant well, at the end of the show the audience did not want us to go off stage, they demanded more and more songs and tunes, What a night that was, one to remember from the rest of our lives.
