A job is only as good as the prep. 🤗 Got to be honest, when you first started applying the blue paint I thought "oh no....too bright." But with the shading of dark wax I love it. Got to learn not to judge until it's done. Beautiful job!
Connie , Thank you ❤️ for showing how to remove wax! I know you painted this piece , for a customer. For what they wanted! But that deck to was so pretty! Once you cleaned it up! Loved the natural wood that was discovered there!
Thanks for the video very informative i just have one question, i don't want to repaint my piece of furniture i want to wax it again should i follow your instructions in the video to do this or do you have another suggestion
i have just bought a 120 year old antique pine bedroom set a huge wardrobe two bedside tables and a double bed, it is so heavily carved and intricate that im a bit worried i will damage it, plus i started one of the bedside tables today the wax came of great, i cleaned it with the white spirit but it hasnt dried out like yours did it in the video and im a bit worried
Hello, do you have to do clear wax before a coloured wax. Can it still be sealed with Gator Hide? Thank you. I'm enjoying this learning experience. Thank you for your time and effort, know that it's appreciated.
You can apply clear wax before a coloured wax - it gives you more control over the application of the coloured wax if you do. You can Gator Hide over Best Dang Wax but you do have to wait until it completely dried which can take a few days (depends how thickly you apply the wax). Hope this helps!
I'm so happy I found your channel! I've been trying to find out what to do to remove wax! I've got an antique side table and it's been painted over many times. I myself painted it with Annie Sloan paint and then white waxed it. I think what I need to do is remove the wax first? And then try to strip off the paint? I'm asking you for advice 😊 please. Or would stripper remove it all at once? I've been using mostly Dixie Belle products since I like it so much better. Thank you for any help. Have a blessed day, from Indiana 🌹
Hi!! I'm so glad you found the video helpful. You could use chemical stripper to remove everything or a scraper tool would do the trick as well - it depends on your personal preference. Some chemical strippers can be a bit stinky!
Thank you for giving so much detail. I’m never sure how much pressure to apply when sanding or removing finishes so that information is really appreciated. 😊. I need to redo a couple of areas done with Annie Sloan white. Wondering if using steel wool with the mineral spirits darken the paint while removing the wax?
This is the best, most comprehensive wax stripping vid I could find. Including how to identify wax at the start is a great addition. Thank you! Could I just use dish detergent for the clean step? I guess if it's just for degreasing that might be OK....
That’s great to hear, thanks! Personally I don’t use dish detergent for cleaning as it can sometimes cause too many bubbles and be a pain to rinse off. It will cut through grease though 😃
Thanks so much - great video! How pedantic do you have to be about crevices and corners? I’m stripping a door and it’s hard to get absolutely everything off 😅
That looks great! ❤ Can you advise about removing white wax finish from new pine furniture? Is it by using the products you've mentioned here? I just bought 2 peices and didn't realise you can't just paint over it. It's giving off a constant smell and the current finish just looks dull and kindof see through. I had other people assemble it for me so I didn't realise it wasn't solid white. I didn't understand the description saying waxed white. Yeah I had a lot to learn 😢 Please help..
Recently painted a desk and Hate it! That being said do I follow the same process you did and paint again? Should I remove paint by scuff sanding only? Thank You
Dixie Belle wax is water based and wouldn't need stripping in order to repaint. Annie Sloan wax is an oil based wax and would need removing before you can repaint. Hope this helps!
I personally haven’t had that but I know sometimes small pieces of the wire wool can become trapped in the wood grain and then turn black over time. I always clean after using White spirits and wire wool and give a sand once it’s dry
Hello Connie;
Love watching and learning from you!
Your always a ray of sunshine to watch…you bring a smile every time I watch your channel!
Thats super kind - thank you!

Prep is super important and I get asked a lot about stripping wax! Glad you liked it in the end!
Thanks for all the details on how to get off the wax finish.
You're welcome!
Great tutorial Connie. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment 😀

Glad you enjoyed the video! Sometimes wood can be pretty but these pieces aren't worth a huge amount unpainted 😀
Great information Connie
Glad it was helpful!
I like the way you explained it and i love your accent ❤️
Thank you!! 😃
So useful - thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video very informative i just have one question, i don't want to repaint my piece of furniture i want to wax it again should i follow your instructions in the video to do this or do you have another suggestion
Yes you can re-wax your piece if you want to just refresh and refinish it instead of paint
when you say refresh what do you mean ?

I just meant to strip the old wax off and re-wax. Old wax can get grubby
Great advice, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Connie! You are a life saver! I put a gold transfer, applied wax, the wax wrecked the whole image😢. Now I have to start over🤷🏼♀️.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that, it’s so frustrating when things don’t go to plan. I have been there many times!
Thank you, that was a very helpful 😊

If you have paint underneath then it might be best to try with a rag rather than wire wool - and try a small area first in case it taints the paint 😀

you are very good thank you for your help
You are most welcome
Great info, waxed furniture scratches easy ,so I will be removing it and just refinish it ✌️🇺🇸
Glad it helps!
Beautiful
Thank you!
Super informative. Thanks!

Thanks! Well, anywhere where wax is left is where paint won’t grip. It does really need to all come off. Sorry for the bad news 😭
Thank you so much for sharing all these tips! This was so helpful! And I LOVE that blue 😍
You're welcome! Glad it helped and the blue is so good!
That looks great!

Yes - all wax removal is the same so this method should work 😀
@@faffdesigns great I shall try it 👍
Thanks 4 your reply🙂
You’re welcome!
Gorgeous.👍
Thank you!!
Recently painted a desk and Hate it! That being said do I follow the same process you did and paint again? Should I remove paint by scuff sanding only? Thank You
What paint and top coat did you use on your desk?
@@faffdesigns Dixie Belle paint and Can't remember if Annie Sloane or Dixie Belle wax
Dixie Belle wax is water based and wouldn't need stripping in order to repaint. Annie Sloan wax is an oil based wax and would need removing before you can repaint. Hope this helps!
The DB blog stated best to remove with mineral spirits but you can paint over best dang wax and easy peasy spray wax?
Yes you can paint over both of those products but I always remove just in case - mainly because I sell my pieces and I want the best finish possible
Could you follow this same process for removal but then stain after instead of paint?
Yes you can 😀
Hi, how would these steps differ if I wanted to use minwax polyshades instead of paint as a final step?
Hey, I don’t think we have that product in the UK so I’m not sure I can advise on how to use it, sorry!
Hello. Do you ever have any issue with the wood ebonizing when using the steel wool?
I personally haven’t had that but I know sometimes small pieces of the wire wool can become trapped in the wood grain and then turn black over time. I always clean after using White spirits and wire wool and give a sand once it’s dry
Is there a specific wire wool you need? I am new to this!
Hi! Not really, I usually get mine from a hardware store or Amazon 😃
Do you use fine, medium or coarse steel wool?
Usually fine or medium
well done.
Thanks!
Would this work on a Chalk paint which has been waxed?
Yes you can remove it in the exact same way. Sometimes you only need to use the white spirits and wire wool unless you’re stripping the paint off too
what cleaner did you use?
I use White Lightning from Dixie Belle Paint Company
Thank you!
You’re very welcome!
So I waxed a high back chair can’t use that scraper is there anything else ?
Just go straight in with wire wool and white spirits if you can't use the scraper 😀
