This is a variation of an ancient Russian meal called овсяный кисель. It is known since 16th century and is usually made from oats, water and some kefir left for fermenting for 1-2 days. It is said to be very healthy, especially having IBS and other digestion related problems. thank you for showing. The world needs to know!
The bacteria in yogurt eats the phytic acid, the outer layer of the oatmeal, which is hard for us to digest by eating the starch, the bad stuff, so we can maximize the nutrition in the oatmeal through fermentation; something like that.
Did the yogurt have live cultures? Organic kefir Yogurt with live cultures is best PS it would ferment a lot quicker at room Temp 6-12 hours or prossibly as low as four. then store in refrigerator up to five days. love the plastic lids must get some, great video.
@@vpambs1pt Add kefir milk to the oats and leave at room Temp over night to ferment. Cook oats with water in the morning for better digestion, let it cool down a bit, then add more kefir with live bacteria + fruits
My wife was been making "overnight oats" for years. Can make night b4 or days in advance. Adds chia and raisins and shredded coconut at times. No need to cook as questioned by lots below. Thats 10x the amount my wife eats. Lol
I disagree. Cow’s milk, even grass fed, is really bad for you. It is made for calfs not humans. Any breast milk is made for the babies of that same species! Very healthy for their young, but not for other species to drink. Research that!
Awesome video Daniel, thank you for sharing, so the Fermented oatmeal ferments in the fridge during the 3 days and then you eat it raw? Trying that, I noticed on my overnight oats made with past the bbdate of coconut milk powder, it was very creamy but trying this, healthier for us and just as tasty as the overnight oats.
Yummy, wonder if you can add some hemp hearts or chia seeds, along with the flax! Or could you add some honey or pure maple syrup if you wanted it a little sweeter?
I do mine with honey! It also helps to keep bad bacteria away since it's antimicrobial. To me it tastes like a really delicious fresh femented yogurt, I love it with berries and fruit.
How long can you keep this in the fridge? I wouldn’t want to make a whole bunch and they go bad before I finish them. But it seems it can keep for a whole being that it’s yogurt.
Rolled oats are steamed before rolling them flat . You don't really need to cook them. They are kind of chewy though. I mix mine with kifer which can have more strains of good bacteria than most yogurts.
I ferment the oat with just milk for 3 days. On the second day I notice a separation of the mill whey on top of the oats. Don’t know if it is better to mix and use it with the whey or discard the whey ? Thoughts ?
1/2C milk 1/2C oats (old fashion/steel cut) 1/2C blueberries 1 container of yogurt in 1 pint wide mouth, more readily available leave one out overnight to eat the next day, the others 3 days in the fridge
I have not but i imagine it would be quite tasty and the cultures in the yogurt should keep them from browning as well. I have tried frozen mixes berries and they are quite good as well.
@@vpambs1pt Yes! Banana goes brown so quick, i would not suggest using bananas. If you use bananas eat them right in the morning and do not wait more than a night.
@@asliaydinlar Ohh I see! True the bananas, go off brown very quickly when they have their peel , I didn't think of it ^^, thought it would "preserve" due to being immersed in liquid 🤔 That sucks, they mustn't taste as good tho, right? but in a way, the change of its chemistry may benefit the whole fermentation ^^. Also a way to prevent it from browning would be "soaking" it in lemon juice, or add some drops to the bananas slices, this way they may last longer (plus the benefits). Thanks for your reply!
You are so right! A lot of Americans do not research nor study health and nutrition. I have been studying that topic for 15 yrs now. I would never use this guy’s recipe from this video!

This is a variation on an old Scottish recipe called sowans, which is made from oats and oat bran fermented for a week in water.
Fermented for a week at room temp. or in the fridge? Interesting
Did the yogurt have live cultures?

tks, when I make it I leave one out overnight so its ready to go in the am, and put the rest in the fridge, works just as you said
do you mean, ferment the oats with the kefir grains and the kefir milk, or add the kefir milk to the oats?
@@vpambs1pt

@@dagmarp3268cooking the oats would destroy the healthy bacteria. The fermentation process makes the oats digestible.
This was actually very helpful, thanks!

Sourdough starter ferments in the fridge.... its not too cold... Lagers are fermented at 40 degrees F... if its not frozen it will ferment....
Thanks I will try it!
Thanks for sharing my guy
Good job. I will try this. Thanks
How cool. I am going to make it! Thank you
Let me know how you like it!
Thank you ❤️ is it yummy? The fermented version?
Hi Nice video. If you enjoy yogurt as a healthy snack, the most nutritious is Grass fed wholefat plain yogurt. Thank you for video from Vermont

Can I add raw cow milk?
Go for it, Might be better. 👍

A week to 10 days should still be good, if it smells off dont eat it. It should smell fresh. Try making 3 or 4 and see how you like it.
If you use water it keeps for longer, but then definetly add some salt and honey to give it more flavor
This is pretty interesting. I've never seen this method. So the grains don't need to be cooked? Thanks.
not at all, i never have seen it either, i just came up with it and tried it, its great!
I'm going to give this a try. I love new idea's. Good jib bro.

Flaked oats are steamed then flattened so they are cooked.

yogurt is the key to turning the milk to yogurt
Some people drink the whey by itself but I just stir it all up again.
How much do you eat per jar?
The whole damn thing brother. 😂
Can you use kefir instead of yogurt?
I haven't tried it but probably, GL👍
Can I add banana
I believe yes!
Are you still eating this everyday? Make any changes to the recipe? Thanks

I wonder if it would work if I put bananas instead of blubberies, have you tried it with different varieties of fruit

I thought you can't ferment on the fridge?!
I'm pretty certain 3 days in the fridge is not long enough to "ferment in the fridge".
You are right! This video is all wrong!
Yes you can ferment in the fridge but it takes longer.
In Indian cuisine you should not mix yogurt with milk.
Yogurt is made out of milk... Mixed with yogurt... Fk sakes.... where do you people come from....
