      Part of it is they’re still trying to build a fan base in the US. While F1 has grown F1’s popularity is minuscule compared to any of the major pro sports, college sports (which is very regional), or NASCAR. What they don’t realize is all the celebrity nonsense they add in Miami does nothing for the American fans who already enjoy F1 and doesn’t bring in new fans NOT at the race.

      As a Brit, I naturally feel the same, but then I think for a minute more and realise the US is a huge mini continent with 50 states the size of European countries. It has a population comparable to Europe and a market of a similar size. Except Europe has how many GPs? 10? 12?
      I dunno. I suppose in a limited season where lots of nations want their own GP, having so many European ones and then now 3 US ones seems selfish. Countries such as SA and NZ surely could put on a great event, as could many others in the developing world who could really use to the leg up for their economy, does India have an event? I don't think it does, does it?
      The Miami GP does seem to be a poor event, anyway. I suppose the thinking is that it hits the latin market in North America. Then again if that's the aim, why not Mexico? Mexico doesn't have one, right? What about the Caribbean? So many great locations rather than the stinker that is Miami.

      Also 99% of the drivers hated it too as it completely interfered with there preparation for the race.
      The problem is an American company has bought F1 so it’s slowly being turned into this ‘big show’ rather than relying on the racing as the spectacle.

    • @mitchell-wallisforce7859
      @mitchell-wallisforce7859 Рік тому +1

      @@polarpenguin3 Key difference between this and the NFL & NHL might be that those intros only happen right before the game starts, something that is literally impossible with motorsport because the drivers need to get into the cars afterwards. You don't see the NFL introduce the two teams competing in the Super Bowl and then have those players hang around on the field twiddling their thumbs for half an hour before the game actually starts. The NFL actually states that t-minus 20 minutes is the EARLIEST time before the game that a team can be required to end warmups.
      Indy 500 driver intros are also a slightly different situation, because they happen close to an HOUR before the race, mostly dodging this problem in the opposite direction, while not taking as long to get through 33 drivers because they introduce them three-at-a-time and far more quickly
      Oh yeah, and IndyCar only ever really does this at the 500, while F1 is planning to do this at MULTIPLE races, now.
