📢 Sterling's Fledging Day! - West End Eagles Thunder, Akecheta, Koa, Treasure & Sterling (6/9)

REPEATING NOTICE: We all know that my ID skills leave much to be desired. According to chatter on Facebook Groups, there was even some debate between the YT chat & Institute for Wildlife Studies on who was fledging when, and who's who during fly-bys. The cam chat is pretty fast-paced, with a fair amount of confusion and debate over what's actually going on from moment to moment, and we all know how THAT spirals out.
SO, in order to keep the correction experts off my back, I'm not even going to make efforts at dictating who's who on any future West End videos unless it is stated for certain by cam mods. All eaglets are now flying, and the action is nonstop. Of course, the EXCEPTIONAL cam ops are fantastic at catching 98% of the happenings, as well as some incredible soaring.
Sunday recap: Lots of activity going on here, as you can imagine with three eaglets now in flight (not to mention two parents, many other species, and a sailboat regatta).
A few specific highlights from this video:
0:08- Beautiful soaring clips
1:26 - Sterling stretching his/her wings - preparing for first flight!
1:55 - Koa watching the sailboats from the old nest when a parent brings in food. Treasure begins wing-flapping just below (watch side of rock near flowering bush) While Sterling is flapping at the new nest
3:20 - Sterling flies to the ledge above the new nest. Koa perched on rock above
4:03 - Watch the left side of the rock Treasure is really flapping now!
4:55 - WEO cam - you can barely catch sight of the wings, but that's Sterling making his/her first flight off the nest! (watch upper right of screen)
5:08 - Both Koa & Sterling have found rocks to perch on overlooking the water. All that's missing is Treasure!
6:57 - Parental fly-by, Sterling wing flaps. Parent lands beside Sterling for a bit. Koa makes a beautiful flight in to an adjacent rock for a few moments. Soon after, Koa leaves, flying back to his/her own rock. :)
10:14 - AMAZING soaring by Koa!! Sterling appears to flap excitedly in celebration & Koa returns to Sterling's rock where they have a "chat". :)
13:05 - Great hover from Sterling
13:35 - Koa returns to his/her rock & soon after - Treasure finally emerges!!!!! The two eaglets share some animated moments, and finally all three eaglets are now in view!!!

Wow everyone seems to be fledging! Soon the nests will be quiet😢 But at the same time The adults need a vacation 😂

The “and a sailboat regatta” caught me off guard 😆 I always take what the mods say as fact, so thanks for mentioning that there might be discrepancies.

I do believe that even the cam mods out there that I'm not too fond of know their eagles & their nests, but I have to admit - I'm not sure anyone can be certain about much here. I do a lot of readong as well as watching & the chatter for the West End nest since fledging began has been so very confusing. I'm not as concerned with IDing every eaglet on a fly-by - I'm just happy to see so many happy flapping wings in the air! :)
