of course helmets work. Angus Brayshaw had non stop concussion issues and was about to give the game away. The put on a helmet and didn't have a problem for a few years. Until some guy leapt into him at top pace. You then consider other guys like Phil Narkle and Don(key) Holmes who rarely had any concussion issues after having to wear a helmet... Peter Spencer had concussion issues and wore a helmet. Resolved the issue of him missing games. Then one match I think at Claremont he decided to take the helmet off, and got concussion in that game. I can go through numerous cases.
Same as Cricket really, not many batsman died not wearing helmets. Phil Hughes wore one and died. It's really hit or miss with protection, depending on the impact.
@owendavies7452 if the data supported helmets preventing concussion, they could be made mandatory overnight... They do more to prevent other types of injuries
