  • Hardy Chicago is an exceptional fig variety. Hardy (as the name suggest), productive, reliable and readily available. When perfectly ripe, it is superb. This one received extra care, picked at the very ripe stage, without spoilage, late in the season. One of the best tasting figs for me this season. @backyardfigs

100% agree with you. I believe this is one of the best figs when perfectly ripe. When did this in ground tree start ripening for you ?

This year was quite late, with long cold spring. First Breba (one only) from this tree was picked on August 13. First main crop on September !5.

Great review. HC doesn't get much respect. Do you keep records of your brix measurements? That would be very interesting to see. I remember CCN being exceptionally high in one of your past reviews.

I agree. I had HC both in pot and ground for 13 years, and this year I had best tasting figs from in ground tree. I will try to collect and test more Mt. Etna's in the future to compare. Many of this year varieties had figs for the first time, and some were great, some promising. Every fig tasting has a video, but because of editing needs they can't be posted yet. This was the sweetest tasted HC, my highest brix test came from CC, 52.
