    Hi Suzy...lots of lovely food stuff you got there. It's at times like this that l am grateful for living out of town coz I get like 95% of what you bought from my SMALL garden. Again as a self taught permaculture gardener I encourage people to grow some of their own food in whatever small spaces available to them. I have friends growing food gardens in pots instead of flowers on their balconies......its easy, beautiful and saves you good money. Things that one could grow in pots include all the herbs (dania, celery, oregano, thyme, rosemary, lemon grass, basil) onions, zucchini, brinjals, tomato, all peppers, kale, spinach etc.

    Pixies are a hybrid between orange and tangerine. Marikiti is actually expensive on lots of stuff these days because of the per kilo pricing system; Muthurwa is very affordable. I shop at both markets

    • @suzyshomestead

      Really?! I didn't know that about pixies. Or about Muthurwa! I'm learning every day! ☺️☺️

    • @Rhenadhis
      @Rhenadhis 3 роки тому

      @@suzyshomestead yup we learn everyday. The only thing that i find affordable at Marikiti is onions (if you are buying a whole net of them - you know the ones they sell for 300shs) butternut(although nowadays they've started selling per kilo while they used to sell per piece), herbs - parsley, mint etc, celery, sometimes lemon&lime, sometimes beetroot and stuff that aren't found or are scarce in other markets like grapefruit, madafu and colored capsicum. The usual stuff like peas, green/fresh maize,tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes,carrots, hoho, ginger, garlic, red cabbage and fruits are much cheaper in muthurwa; siyo muthurwa huku mbele, you walk into the real food market in muthurwa huko past where there's a bus stand/terminus.

    Suzy. When you have guests, do you defrost meals or do you buy fresh and cook for them?

    • @suzyshomestead
      @suzyshomestead  3 роки тому

      Great question Betty! Now, it depends on whether I knew they were coming or not. If I knew, then I will prepare in advance. If they are spontaneous guests, then I'll just remove from the freezer. I almost always have extras, so we still have enough food for ourselves. ☺️☺️
