The sound of one of these things coming at you in 1944 must have been frightening....They still look good today...
And yet all other tigers are not operational. And also I forgot to mention is that that little thing that lets out the steam or something is damaged.
By 1944 the sight of one of these was extremely rare and more often than not was ran by inexperienced crews. Almost all the experienced crews were already dead or missing from fighting on the eastern front. Also by 1944 most of the opposition facing Tiger 1 was easily capable of shooting right through its frontal armor. This tank was good in the early parts of the war simply due to it being able to out range its opposition. However if they got close to it all its advantages became weaknesses.

I think a group of tank enthusiasts should start a small company that focuses on rebuilding or restoring tank engines and transmissions because the awe and power of these metal behemoths is absolutely stunning.
But with a company like that, so many other tanks could be on the move again roaring down a road like they once did back in WWII
I’m sure Jane Fonda would donate.
I'm not sure what the current situation is now, but wasn't War Gaming going to restore/replicate the Maus tank?
Replicating would be better, i think... best to leave the originals to the museums. However i do think there should be 1 large museum that holds all tanks, be it destroyed, restored or in original form
I mean they have a working Tiger tank. They’ve studied it and know how it works and all it parts. Why don’t they just build more? Not for war but for shows like this.
@@awkwarddoggo05 Because it's not worth the money and trouble. Same goes for weapons. The world just does not need any more of them so reproduction of them would be seen as useless.

interestingly , tiger 131 doesn't seem to have had any transmission problems , does it ? Plenty of engine problems, especially when it was being tested to destruction by the British, but no transmission problems,.. I wonder if this is because the transmission problems you refer to are specific to the Panther tank, which used a different gearbox ? ..a gearbox that was itself replaced on the model G ..?
Anyways, Tiger 131 certainly seems to be running quite well, and surprisingly fast for such a big old tank...

And why should it break down? It is not even stressed! Besides it was installed the improved Maybach 700 hp Maybach HL 230 P30 from the Königstiger prototype that is at the Bovignton museum. During the late '70's, I was a Cavalry Scout in an Armored Battalion in West Germany. During one of our exercises at the Grafenwoehr training area, I noticed a large horseshoe shaped remnant of rusted steel on one of the old firing ranges. I dismounted and inspected it more closely. To my amazement, I identified it as the turret of a Tiger I. The roof was gone, and the hull had been blasted repeatedly into scattered fragments. So sad that nearly all of these magnificent tanks were either scrapped or used as targets on firing ranges. At least this Tiger and a couple of others survived.
I was at Bovington in June of this year and saw this Tiger and 300 other armored vehicles.Flew from the States just for that.

Now, that's one good lookin' machine! Shermans, Tigers, Jeeps, halftracks, and nearly every aircraft; the machines of World War 2 represented a meshing of new technology and old armor principles. Regardless of the side, or the reasons, just the machines themselves are marvels. 👍
What a fantastic piece of engineering the sound must of frightened the life out of its opponents 👍👨🏻🏭🔧
Say what you want about nazi but damn they knew how to engineer weapons tech and rockets
Yes, they did some very sophisticated design and engineering. But what they gave up was simplicity and the ease of mass productions. The American Sherman M4 was an inferior tank to the German tanks. Sometimes it would take the loss of 4 Shermans to get close enough to kill one Tiger. But when Shermans are being mass produced at a 37 to 1 rate the Americans could afford those kinds of losses. In all over 50,000 Shermans were built during WWII. This was opposed to only 1.350 Tiger 1's. A stated, that's a ratio of over 37 to 1.
the Tiger and the Panther were examples of nazi over engineering they had more breakdowns and fires due to technical faults than enemy kills, the feedback from the German soldier on the eastern front said heres a captured T34 just copy it and make as many as you can and we ll do the rest
Joe Vignolo Fun little fact during the 13 day battle of Berlin a King Tiger was able to destroy more than 100 Russian tanks by its self the tiger didn’t even get destroyed it simply ran out of ammo.

Crews were instructed not to fire main gun if muzzle brake inoperable as severe turret damage would result of excessive recoil.
Imagine being on the receiving end of such a weapon.
Germany had developed low hydrogen welding stick rods that made strong welds possible in their construction in the 30’s.
America’s Liberty ships were known to break up in rough cold seas as the were welded with non low hydrogen stick rod. Not nearly as strong
Would be cool to have a Gigant glider land and deploy some light armor and a Klienes Kettenkrad.
Just imagine how intimidating it would have been to face off against one of those in battle.
u would shit your Pants directly
They were actually quite a rare sight on the battlefield, but allied troops were terrified of meeting them - the psychological effect their existence had on British, American and Soviet tank crews was probably as important as the physical impact.
The Jayser,
True. Although there were almost 150 of them in the countryside around Caen in Normandy so not exactly rare there in particular.
literally Id
shit myself
If you pause it at the right places you can see where bullets impacted the top of the tank and by the exhaust. Very cool and eerie. If that tank could talk. 🤔
Imagine the storys it would tell man 👀
It's not the only one. There is one still working in the Saumur museum, it's a tiger 2 but still a tiger

Imagine what would be watching this beast coming towards your position... The only presence of this tank would make you think twice before shooting...
Santiago Bardelli If you see a Panzerfaust or a 85mm gun the Tiger won't exist. It would be just a hollow shell of what it once was. Also the Tiger itself is pretty blind. The High profile and boxy design just screams I have blindspots

5.7 isn't too bad actually. It's 6.7 that sucks.

The only working KingTiger is in France, it is huge I can tell you I saw it
Actually its official home is the bovington tank museum in England, what you say me just be it a sort of show.
This is a tiger I not a king tiger.
Misaka Mikoto I know
The engine in the tiger 1 is actually the engine from the bovington tiger 2.
as you can see from the damage at the rear. the tiger 1 engine was beyond repair.
why go to all that trouble and not just repair the tiger 2?
the tiger 1 is more valuable.
The engine in this tank is from a tiger 1 the tiger 2 engine is the same and that was used to repair the tank when it was damaged while filming Fury... The film company paid tonrepair the broken one and now they have 2 working engines. I was there in summer and they have plans to get the tiger 2(king tiger. ) working also
Comparing the Tiger to the Sherman is like comparing a Green beret to an army recruit, they weren’t built for the same purposes
Jack Robinson less a recruit, more basic infantry
Yet you still decided to throw you’re men like cannon fodder at them -_-

Pound for pound the best AFV of WWII. You say Sherman, people say what, you say Churchill or Cromwell people say okay, you say TIGER, people perk up! My dad faced these beasts in WWII and he said about the movie Private Ryan, "One of the most realistic scenes was when the soldiers were behind the dirt piles and the German tanks were coming in the dirt piles started shaking and getting lower and lower." Dad said, "If you say you saw a Tiger and weren't afraid you never saw one." Even dad said, "Beast of a tank, glad they didn't have as many Tigers as we had Shermans."
