Travis Scott's music may give you goosebumps (see what I did there!), but did you know that he's an avid watch lover? Today, the boys sit down and try to wrap their heads around the latest watch collaboration between Travis Scott and Audemars Piguet, the Royal Oak "Cactus Jack"! They also sprinkle in a bit of banter about JLC and their recent price hikes, as well as take a look at the new Breitling Premier Collection. This one's going to be a doozy!

"Tyler, the Creator has class."
Tyler, the Creator: Chronic youth, I'm shoving blunt wraps in bitches ovaries, punches to the stomach where that bastard kid supposed to be.
Please educate us more on hip hop and pop culture, Christian lol
Christian is not the guy to talk about hip hop lol.
He’s the oldest young guy ever haha Gotta love it
Listen, Sam is awesome, you should keep him on, but make the format different. The studio setup, the conversations etc. everything is the same as when Michael is co-hosting. That will inevitably bring people to compare them side-by-side. Sam must feel horrible when reading through the comments. You have two great and very different co-hosts, use that as an advantage.
Ps. thank god, you stopped the 'fake fragrance' ads - can't wait for the conversation in the future, where you will admit, it was the dumbest sponsor
The sponsor thing is not that big of a deal.
@@pulsefg Sure, who am I to judge. I love my Roblix Summarinade!
@@andersaagaard4599 Not the same thing.
More Michael, less Sam.
Haha Cartier doesn’t pander- talking your book wearing GIANT juste un clou- talking out your @$$ honestly. The vast majority of people are not the old soul types in love with the history of the brand. Amazing shade of brown- and to your point of Jay z being a better writer- that’s true but Travis came up as a truly amazing producer he’s not just some SoundCloud guy- anyways I digress good video guys peace
I appreciate Sam's counterpoints. Everyone wants to bag on this collab but it's nice to hear someone in a video pushing back.
total disagree. this collaboration is a homerun.
Watches are fashion items, rappers make fashion trends... plain and simple.
If watch companies want to get younger people into watches, this is the way to do it... rich white kids have always emulated rappers and wished they could be them. Nobody under 30 would know what an AP is if it wasn't for rappers putting AP in their raps...
If dorky Spiderman watches don't do it, this also won't affect the brand negatively in any significant way... other than maybe bring in some younger people to aspire to get one.
True....
Michael >
Christian is a 100% correct about AP x Travis collab in my opinion! Even though it’s a cool watch and everything the collab lacks class in almost every way. And I even know that… and I’m a huge Travis Scott fan!
Class? 😂 what is that? Christian definitely doesn't have it. That take was evil.
I’m calling absolute bs with the idea that either of you would pick the Polaris over the submariner
Nah, in some horological circles the black sub is seen kinda like a default, no imagination, “I only bought this for status” watch. The Polaris is different and more likely to spark up a conversation with fellow enthusiasts.
I love talking to people about their watches in public, but when I see a black sub they usually don’t know much about watches outside of Rolex.
@@TheJosephhomere13 I agree. I still stand by my statement
@@StephenRoseDuo We all know that Christian wouldn't pick either. They're not gold.
27:57 Lol Christian sounds so old.
The pistachio dial is definitely a stunning timepiece. A conversation starter for sure.
I think that it is this line from Christian that sums it up for me: “There has been such a fall from grace in the class end” I used to own AP watches and just don’t have a desire to anymore which is really sad.
Christian's face at 27:45,... hahaha
Did something happen with Michael ? Simple as out for the day or what ? No hate twords the new guy.
Wheres Michael?
“It’s a bold move cotton” I caught that. Well done😂😂😂
My son is a huge Tyler the creator fan and he continuously telling me I need a Cartier now. He’s brought amazing life to Cartier for a young generation. Would love to hear your thoughts on that.
JLC has gone from being the best buy in watches to being the worst buy in watches in just 3 years.
So michael is gone now?
Seems like Christian wants to be an AP Gatekeeper.
"I dumb down for my audience and double my dollars
They criticize me for it, yet they all yell "holla"
If skills sold, truth be told, I'd probably be lyrically Talib Kweli
Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense
But I did 5 mill' - I ain't been rhyming like Common since"
Jay-Z released that in 2003.
You could argue for or against this as intelligent.
Yo Christian... who the are you to tell anyone what elegance or class is, when you have neither. That rant had so much underline hatred & ignorance. Do better. Btw Travis Scott is an artist & designer in a businessman doing big business. He has over 50 million followers. Update your thinking, bro.
My first thought was who the f*** is Travis Scott?
A wanker and that’s it
Yea... pretty trashy colab for AP. Not that it's my market of watch, so I'm sure they're not loosing sleep over my claim! It does lower my interest in a RO or Millenary at some point.
Best not to find out you’ll be disappointed. And your not missing much
I think that's why collabs exist and that's the exact question they hope to answer
He's known for safe concerts and events
Sam's bringing a different perspective here that's more mainstream less watch dealer which I think is good to have! just needs to be a little more confident in that. He doesnt need to know as much as christian just like be your self and talk about what you like. Or maybe a different format than side-by-side. like Sam talks about the watches he sees people wearing out in the world.
its crazy seeing two guys who can't even afford that watch act so snobby 😂
Dude in white keeps reading laptop 😮
Here we go again…..🙄
Harris still on break?
Cheers for shining some light on the Polaris. I've got the black model with date & rubber strap, fantastic watch but not sure i'd agree with it being the best knock around watch or at least more so than a sub. The problem is the crystal is basically the entire face of the watch, the edge of which is the first thing that gets hit/caught if you bump into something with it.
Kinda the whole point of divers a beaters is the crystal protection
Okay I’m definitely more on the side that this watch and branching out and curveball is pretty cool - although the price is outta control. But some thoughts, questions while hearing out the anti-Travis Scott collab view:
- Is a brand barred from expanding their reach, diversifying?
- If they aren’t barred from it, then why is elegance/class the only barometer. They can’t swerve a little from that to try something new that’s probably a one-off? (Different story if making an entirely new line)
- Getting the eyes and dollars of the youth in every era is the million dollar question, so probably still a net positive that they’re being proactive and trying something new than standing still, no? 🤔
Is this channel always weeks late on watch news?
Yes
AP sinking to new lows 😂
when the left side of the thumbnail is covering the cohost by a celebrity it isn't going to be Michael:')
Yes.
that travis scott watch, is so nice. idc about the rapper at all, hes ass. but the watch and the fonts is a banger. its sad you guys cant differentiate the watch and how it looks from its marketing material. you hear its modeled after a rapper, and you dismiss it. but look at the damn face. those fonts are amazing and is on brand for travis. do you see what i see. its so nice. yall hating.
We want mickael back button
Enough of riding JayZ
Being back Theo
You’re nuts if you think that the JLC is more durable than a Sub. 😂
I paused the video during an ad before it started. Can anyone tell me is it Sam or Micheal this episode? I’ll wait.
Here is my take. Rant loading
On Audemars Piguet
I have been saying this for a while no. Everything that Rolex gets criticised for AP represents. Hype, "investment", lazy watches, forgetting history etc. If Ap didn't have the Royal Oak and the title of being in the holy trinity they would not be able to get away with this.
The fact that the Concept line from AP lost out so convincingly to Richard Mille is embarrassing. I don't like either watch, but people do and they have their place in the market. The fact that RM is everywhere in pop/celebrity culture and AP Concept is nowhere is a big of a fumble as Skype loosing out to Zoom during covid.
The Marvel collaborations! Imagine if Hublot or Tag Heuer did that. They would need decades of great watches to move past it as a brand, but AP gets a pass.
This Travis Scott collaboration is just going further down that road. What makes it even more sad and frustrating is that AP do not have to do any of this. They already had all the clout they needed.
On JLC pricing:
At retail pricing (not including markets pricing depreciation etc) I feel that JLC is fair value priced at the same MSRP as Rolex. What JLC offer in terms of watch making and finish is an equal value prop to what Rolex offer in terms of proportionality, wearability and durability. The offer two very different products in that regard that comp out to a very similar retail price for me.
The monoface JLC Revero's Rolex comp is the Datejust, fluted, Jubilee and is retailing slightly more expensive than the JLC. I'd say the JLC is fairly priced here.
The Polaris Chrono is a comp to the Daytona. Here the JLC is roughly $1,500 (Canadian) more expensive that the Rolex. Id say thats fair for retail value. I do think it is a problem in terms of market positioning. Considering the dominance of the Daytona & Speedmaster have in the category. Let alone with the heat that Breitling, Tag Heuer & Zenith have brought out recently.
the JLC Master Calander Chrono's Rolex Comp to me is the Rolex Skydweller. Here the JLC is CA$6k over the Rolex. This is just overpriced.
On Breitling:
They have been killing it over the past 5 years or so. The Premier collection is stunning, their new Navitimer redesign is stunning. I think that majority of their collection are buys and they look better in real life. Sad that the brand image is still recovering from an earlier era. Personally i prefer their current catalog to Omega's and it is not particularly close. In the last half decade probably only Longines has had more consistently good releases than Breitling. Zenith has also done a phenomenal too in that time span, maybe just not as well as Longines and Breitling imo.
I guessed I missed the latest…..Really enjoying Sam, but……where’s Michael been/at?
what a bad take
I like everything about that AP. Unique material, skeleton, perpetual calendar, unique strap. I like everything about it except the fact that it's Travis Scott.
It's hideous.
Who would your prefer?
Idk it's kinda weird why people hate him so much. Like Christian saying he's not intelligent, he's not elegant, etc. Uh, the average guy wearing a Rolex is none of those things either. Being successful in business and producing a luxury product have very little to do with intelligence...
Almost unwatchable episode... Suggesting Tyler the Creator (and I'm a fan of his!) should be collabing with AP is one of the worst takes I've ever heard.
What Christian is saying is that AP went GHETTO with this crap. The Patek/Tiffany colab was between two prestigious brands. Nothing prestigious about Travis Scott
anytime you use "class, heritage, elegant" to bring something down, you sound uninformed - which you aren't. Give specific examples - why is the moon not classy or heritage for example. Then furthermore - are watches held to ONLY heritage and class?
AP killing their brand hip hop really , what a joke.
When every successful rapper owns an iced out AP, it makes sense. I guess. I hate collabs. Even Hondikee watch collabs
Hip hop is the reason why most people even know of ap
I feel like Travis Scott is above AP when it comes to branding although they may not be on the same spectrum with AP doing luxury and Travis Scott doing art. I do think they met well in the middle.
Serials killers have, too. Stop with that word. You people have no idea what type of people own these brands. It's a luxury watch. Most of the people wearing these watches are wet phonebooks.
Agree with Theo, AP shouldn’t be going down this road partnering with these rappers and the culture. Nothing against those things, just doesn’t fit well with a brand and history like AP.
YOOOOOO Travis the guy from Fortnite is doing a collab with the Royal Oak brand that’s sick
Vacheron has the Triple Calendar for $19k I believe a Much better buy than the JLC. Also Breitling just purchased Universal Genève you should make a video 😁
Breitling Datora or Omega annual calender globemaster over that JLC. $19k is not it
Well, it’s better than the AP Spider-Man. But that’s not saying much.
You can’t believe vintage Sub = tools and modern Sub = jewelry. The modern construction quality and testing standards are off the charts comparatively
Bro just mad hating giving old man gate keeping vibes. This was just bias af
Christian’s RO Chrono wait just got longer
I agree with Christian that JLC doesn't need to make the Polaris in too many colors, but I'd be all over the chronograph in the same green that they use for the date model.
yall didnt realize AP aint it when they put a tiny glow in the dark spiderman on the dial?
But was it Travis or did Francois want more celebrity friends?
Low key this Travis Scott AP is great even if it's busy. I'd still rather have the Salmon dial Breitling Datora :)
I'd rather have a Cartier over the Polaris if we are going time-only. Hell, the XL (chrono) is only 10K.
Christian 🎯 re the AP collab!
AP had lost the way.
Agree 100%. Travis Scott????
MSU here..represent.. class of 99
A brand can’t be ruined by one bad collab. Ask Panerai. Lol
Ask who? 😂
@@robertanders2011as if. lol
You mean like these guys promoting FAKE?
@@MRtwister88 no thats not the type of collab I’m talking about. Now if they dropped a T&H fragrance? Sure. lol
@@johnswick7108 still ruined their brand tho!
Sam is completely right about the chocolate AP! And AP has been ingrained in rap culture for 20 years now, this is nothing new. Why should the royal oak and offshore company suddenly pretend it's all about elegance? AP is firmly in the Mille and Hublot category, yes, but that category is wildly successful. I also don't get the hate for Travis Scott as an artist (not talking about Astroworld). He is wildly influential in his genre and has been making interesting *music* (not lyrics) since 2014. Unlike Jay-Z who only raps, Travis Scott is also a producer and has production credits on 14/19 songs on his last album. Just because he's popular doesn't mean you need to equate his music with junk food and trash AP for being associated with him. He's also a much more savvy collaborator than anybody else in the genre (see Nike). Also, I think one big point for Travis vs Tyler the Creator is that Travis is going to rap about AP just like Jay-Z did. Tyler wears Cartier. And why would AP focus on a collaboration to align with a brand image from the 20th century and not with the brand image that's given it success in this century? People love to hate on Richard Mille but when you see every F1 driver wearing a Mille and every rapper and movie star wearing a Mille it makes it cool and it makes the product sell. Acting like you're above using the best marketing tools available in the name of "but marketing that reaches a lot of people is trashy!" makes no sense. EVERYBODY is talking about this watch... absolutely NOBODY would be if they only did lowkey iykyk collaborations.
Marketing that reaches a lot of people? Who can afford this? It makes no sense! It’s a hideous watch made to a trashy man that told the crowd to hit a dude during a concert just because said dude stole one of his shoes… it’s just some kind of woke pandering like many other companies are doing… now do you wanna know what would completely break the internet, the watch world and make them even more popular? Imagine a collab with Casio with a real CasiOak? Maybe they could use TS or another rapper for limited editions, for marketing or something… this would completely break the watch world and be actually interesting for the youth to be introduced in this. But creating the equivalent of an Air Jordan version of one of the most iconic watches in history (including stupid apparel) and make it cost 200k makes absolutely no sense to me… Besides, AP is practically a one watch brand; if people lose interest on the RO they’re done
@@victorfernandesvieira7883 It's called the Halo effect. Your favourite rapper collabs with a brand you don't care about, and suddenly you care about the other brand. Even if they can't afford one now, maybe they will in the future, and they'll remember how much they wanted that AP when it comes time to buy a watch.
Nice Juste un clou bracelet.
Ugly watch for an ugly collab of a brand that is willingly associating themselves with hip-hop.
I love that Sam speaking as the mass audience, not just as a small watch community member. AP x Travis created the conversation about the old and new generation interest and brand preference. To me, we already have a bunch of classic watches (that so many young gen think boring). I'm not Travis fan but listen to his music sometimes and I have to admit that he makes things cool like Nike, Dior and other brands. I don't want to talk about intelligent or class since that's one side and trafitional perspective and we are in dynamic cultures. The brand can sell young products to oldies but they can't sell dated items to young audience. Although I love classic 5970 or 5004, I still love to spend my budget on multiple APs without regret.
Can’t believe anyone still works with Travis Scott
You can't believe companies are still working with one of the most popular rappers in the world? Interesting
@@axiom4694you don’t think dead audience members would turn a few people off? Interesting.
@@axiom4694 the Astroworld Festival really should have been the end of his reign as "one of the most popular rappers in the world"
AP was like "let's get some of the drone rap money". Kids will buy our watches eventually as long as they continue to like this timeless music.
Anyone know where Christian got that jacket?
came here for the answer to this question lol
Good job Sam!
no more AP lol.
I am a middle class person. I am not spending $20,000 on a watch, that loses its value by 50% out the door. I have the Breitling Premier. Great watch. The b01 movement is terrific.
It’s clearly for the rich, not the middle class. Breitling doesn’t retain value well, either
@@RabbitWatchShopI know. I didn’t pay anything near retail. It was about 20% off, so I figured it was just about liking the watch. If I spent $20,000 or more on a watch, which I can’t explain to my wife, I would want it to keep close to retail.
@@rickjason215 smart man! I like the B01 Premier pistachio, but felt it wasn’t a $10k watch while at the AD. Asked for a discount and they refused
@RabbitsOnTheLuna I used Chrono24 and bought off a dealer where Chrono24 guaranteed the transaction. We negotiated through the message app. and we agreed. Watch was brand new with box, papers etc. $10 grand is way too high. You did the right thing. I got blue, but I love the pistachio.
bro is whipped by his wife lol@@rickjason215
Young watch nerds who wouldn’t have to mortgage a $201,000 watch is a pretty small demographic
Not really. There’s more young millionaires than any time in history.
HMU for the Breitling 🙏
You never say this, but EVERY highend watchmaker is ripping off every customer. Watches are tiny things. You watch bloggers are as responsible as the manufacturers for the high prices.
AP might as well just hire Pharrell Williams as their creative director and call it a day. He can work two jobs
Whoa trigger warning LOL or how Sam would say- trigga
You know who else did a Travis Scott collab? Maccas. AP and McDonalds are now on the same level.
Is that a bad thing? If you have a preconceived notion of what AP is, that it's this elegant, Holy Trinity brand, then yeah it's a bad thing. But AP's been telling us for years that they aren't that. They want to be culturally relevant, they want to be on the pulse. When was the last time AP made a truly elegant watch? They killed their dress watch division and went all in on the Royal Oak, and yeah that's an elegant sports watch, but it's not a dress watch. They realised that dress watches were out and sports watches were in and they went all in.
Marvel is one of the biggest IPs in the culture. Scott one of the biggest musicians. AP wants to make contemporary cultural artefacts, even if that means that they're dated in 5-10 years, that's fine, they'll continue to follow the contemporary culture. Maybe the trajectory will change with the change in leadership, but right now AP doesn't give a damn about any Holy Trinity. And why should they? That's an outsider's perspective, that's what people said about their brand in the 90s. They want people to talk about their brand today.
travis scott is not "junk food", its pshychedelique rap, sophisticated trap music. All the hype is due to his branding and the kids love him cause he made a collab with fortnite and mcdonald but go listen 90210 or my eyes, he got production from the daft punk, bon iver, stevie wonder. He's one of the greatest musician of our era.
he’s junk food
I love the collab and a lot of people outside of snooty watch people are going to be into it and going to love it.
A comp for JLC is the breitling premier datora 42 salmon dial for 10k
The dials are comparable, but the movement on the Datora is I think the Valjoux, not the b01 as on the Premier. The price for the Datora should be a lot less.
AP Travis Scott collab is just so bad for the image of AP. Makes the brand look cheap. Supreme Travis Scott sounds ok but AP? “Holy trinity “brand collab with a rapper ? Really brings AP down. The real holy trinity should be Patek , Rolex and VC or A.lange. AP is just know to be the royal oak company. Nothing else. It is nothing without the Royal oak.
Those Breitling look like the vc
i agree that sam brings a more ordinary perspective, that is welcome and interesting to see contrasted with cristian's. i watch all of your videos btw
While an interesting watch I think that that's cheapening the brand of AP.
Nice swatch!
Liked this vid immediately after Christian's opening teaser statement
Lol tyler the creator is a creative genius and that collab would be aligned with the perception of "mastery of craft and creativity etc" a far better choice for a big 3 collab if one must be done

@@TheoandHarrisreally? sure doesn’t sounds like it to me. like, not even close.

No Micheal no view
Calling Travis Scott a "Hip-Hip Artist" is an insult to the genre, and the legends who created, and shaped it.
He is a smart marketer (or at least has a smart marketing team) and nothing more. He is a talentless lyricist who creates generic trash which will soon be forgotten. He is also a terrible person, who has built hype by inciting his fans to violence and causing riots.
Whilst I believe he should be in jail for the musical crimes he has committed, he definitely should be in jail for the grievous injuries and 10 deaths which he caused at Astroworld in Houston.
I think it's a terrible move from AP to be associated with someone like this. He's not cool, and his fans are mostly little kids who will have long forgotten Travis existed by the time they can afford an AP.
Nice video. I agree about the Polaris. They may be slightly overpriced, but they're great watches, especially the new chronographs.
AP doesn't interest me. Vastly prefer Rolex, Patek, and Vacheron. AP's recent designs are childish and have cheapened the brand. Their finishing is also off.
