ADF | HMAS Anzac farewelled after 30 years of service

- Ship’s company of HMAS Anzac (III) said a fond farewell to the Anzac-class frigate in a decommissioning ceremony at HMAS Stirling in Perth on 18 May 2024. The ceremony concluded the Royal Australian Navy ship’s 28 years of distinguished service.
HMAS Anzac is being decommissioned to make way for the new and evolved fleet. The decommissioning event included speeches and a cake- cutting ceremony.

@@tharr67, no one forced albo to decommission this ship, today. If they don't have enough crew, they could pay more to our military and not keep giving themselves pay rises?
@@paulsandford3345officers get paid 6 figures on lowest increment within 7 years and 3 promotions, most officers get paid more. A private gets the same amount of money as a teacher (73 thousand lowest starting) but doesn’t have to go to university or anything like that. That plus all the subsidies makes it look like a pretty sweet deal. And guess what? Labor’s raising the pay even more. Stop listening to Dutton and the mainstream media who are only going to whinge and complain. I’m not in the army (yet) but pay scales are publicly available and very easy to read.
@@paulsandford3345 That's not how it works. Chief of Navy would've recommended decommissioning ships to the government of the day. Our military has been getting more money, expenditure is now over 2% of GDP. They don't give themselves pay rises. This is another myth. There's actually an Independent board that oversees this. That said I believe they're paid more than enough, though no where the corporate sector

Mate do you know how much we’ve been pumping into defence? The retirement of one ship isn’t going to impact us when we have a system that can see enemies thousands and thousands of kilometres away. We’ve just cracked 50 BILLION DOLLARS in the budget
We should be keeping these ships! Instead of giving our politicians pay rises, pay our military more and you'll end up with more recruits.
Look at the pay charts mate. A private on the lowest pay makes the same as a teacher with no uni degree, tertiary qualifications, they don’t even have to pass year 12.

@@bigmart932, they could have given them pay raises 2 years ago, albo has had 2 since becoming PM! Also the point was these ship just had up grades which have now been nothing less that wasted money? Labor has made the decision to decommission 16 ships in 2 years no one else. The coving for this PM, it is getting pathetic almost as pathetic as he is! I'm sure china will wait the 10 years for us to build the hmas anzac replacement, before they attack?

I'm probably not privy to make this comment however I will.
We should mothball the ANZAC class Frigates in my opinion. Might need them soon.
In the event of conflict they could escort the Canberra class or merchant shipping effectively as is.
Mothballed then gives options for upgrading to bring back to active capability faster than building a new ship in war time.
