@@campingexpedition I realized I didn't get the lay flat version but the combo bivvy tent/ hammock.
it was nice but there are quality of life modifications needed.
Such as utilizing the button snaps they already have on the tarp to hold the door and screen open, or Velcro.
When rolling multiple layers together, for a bivvy roll (hammock, air pad, wool blanket), its very hard to keep everything together while rolling to pack up. I could've even unhooked one end and rolled it up while hanging IF they had a means of keeping the ends together. Instead I had to lay it on the snowy ground to pack up, and even then the bottom liner is so thin any amount of wind will keep it semi inflated or blowing around while rolling. Very frustrating for my bug out kit.
They need to include methods or designs that improve reuse and overall functionality.
The tarp in my version doesn't have a way to wrap around the pole ends and it flips the last 3-4 inches upward, creating numerous issues with wind and snow in the morning. I could only imagine rain while sleeping.
Overall its a nice piece but needs work or customization to become truly functional.
The temps I experienced were about 28F with slight snowfall in the morning and no condensation.
I used the Klymit hammock V 4.4RV airpad, an air pillow, a 68"x94" wool blanket over my jacket layers and pants, and down booties.

Just ordered one! Always been bothered by how tight my hammock is and feeling a bit constricted (it's the only thing I dislike about it), and this seems perfect. I'll keep my lighter hammock setup for when I backpack but this is perfect for like boundary waters stuff in Minnesota, where you canoe most of your gear in anyways. Thanks for sharing!
I am curious though, do you know if an underquilt is logistically possible with something like this? Maybe a wider one?

That's awesome, let us know your opinion when you'll get it. About the underquilt, honestly i don't know. I've literally never used one. I am sorry.

Hi, the underquilt doesn't fit for the lay flat hammock

You could throw an insulating layer in the big storage pouch, by the looks of it.
I'd probably just have a roll of memory foam to put underneath.

So if you store shoes etc under it will you not feel then when you lay down?

    • @campingexpedition
      @campingexpedition  5 місяців тому +1

No, that part is essentially for your pet, according to the manual. Un my case, that part is too tight and therefore there is little space left, but if it is looser, there will be a place for everything.

Good , thank you. The lower straps need to tie around the tree as low as possible for optimal stability

I actually prefer the night cat lay flat design to the Haven tent. The Haven relies on the rigidity of the sleeping mat to create a flat sleeping surface. When the mat runs flat or looses air, the Haven won't lay so flat anymore. This night cat lay flat is designed kind of like a stretcher. You can even use it without a sleeping mat, even though I think It will be warmer and more comfortable with a sleeping mat. With the Haven tent you have to use their sleeping mat because it needs to be installed in the corner pockets of the tent to create the rigidity like I mentioned before. When the sleeping mat is leaking and you want to replace it, you have to buy another one from Haven. It's quite expensive for a sleeping mat. With the night cat one you can buy pretty much any sleeping mat you want/prefer and throw it in there as long as the dimensions somewhat match. So that's my +1 vote for the night cat. It's also cheaper than the Haven. One benefit you get from the Haven tent is that it seems to be more stable than the night cat. That's because of the different design. But when installed correctly I doubt that you will flip over in the night cat lay flat tent.
