My brother ended up in a nasty collision in his Mazda 2 a few years back, the car ended up being a ride-off. He, however, was absolutely fine, no injuries whatsoever.

I bought my Mazda 2 in 2012...I have owned a lot of cars...but 11 years on without ant problems, it is the best car I have ever had...and I had bought two new Saturns previously...
I’m from Australia, My partner bought a 2014 5 door auto hatch new, not a single problem, its been great. It’s a bit buzzy at highway speed but for driving around the city and the hills it’s very fun to drive. The stereo is good with iPhone connectivity, and good speakers. The only annoying thing is that the seats are not suited to really long driving but you can adjust the seat height which helps.lacks back and thigh support. it’s got over 120.000kms we have had 2 of them, a 2012 new that had done over 60.000kms that was total loss in 2014 after a early 90s Mazda 626 failed to give way at an intersection and and the 626 took full impact to the side. Only drivers airbag was deployed. The 626 drove away from the crash but my partners 2 was towed away.
We have a 2010 Mazda 2 as both a city and our family car. It's a real vfm, though we have the 1.3l with 86hp so it feels a little underpowered in some cases, but at least it's the 5-speed manual... Not that spacious or comfortable over bumps but it can do 700km with full fuel tank, which is I think extraordinary, given the fact that it's already 10 years old! I've been able to max it out at 180kph with 5 persons onboard and a fully loaded trunk and it still felt steady and reassuring on the road. It steers and handles exceptionally well and its behavior is very predictable. Its reliability is also off the charts, provided that you do the service and maintenance on time. I think that there is a huge difference in the overall behavior of the car between the Automatic and the manual gearbox and I would suggest you to also test the car with a manual gearbox.
That little 4 cilinder is naughty... It's quite quick despite the numbers. Feels much faster than 100hp Handling to me is like a FWD Miata, feels amazing
Having driven Miatas you're not wrong. There's a similar action to the gear change as well (though Mazda2 more plasticy). Its handing is actually not unlike something like the EG Civic in FWD nippy feel. Speedwise these are only slightly slower than the 1.6 NA Miata too.

You are missing all the Mazda fun without a stick, which is top notch even on the 2. I bought a manual mazda2 at launch in 2011 as a weekend car in a major city. I take great care of it, it's still under 100k km, and it still looks brand new. I absolutely love it, and it IS a perfect car for wavy "canyon" roads (Quebec Laurentians)... especially those in which you can't really go passed 90km/h. With the manual, very light 16 inch rims and sports tires, it's SUPER fun. 2nd and 3rd gear above 3k rpm is where you get the most out of it. Get the manual, shed as much weight as you can, keep it at half-tank, and you will have endless legal fun with this car.
First Mazda I had was an '87 323 in the '90's. I absolutely loved that car and it served as my introduction to the brand. Since then I've had an '02 Protege (which I still own and still runs!!!), and I lucked out and bought a 2014 2 just before Covid hit. Her name is 'EB', which stands for Mazda2 Electric Boogaloo. I convinced my bf at the time to get an '04 3, which he later upgraded to a 2010 3. He's been out of my life for 10 years, but I bet those cars are still running! Long live Mazda. Zoom Zoom!
The driver seat of my 2011 Mazda 2, same as 2014 ones, is still more comfortable than many 2022 cars, it's very "huggy" and has very good support. It's even more comfortable than 2022 Mazda 2 that I also own, very interesting!
Highway once in a blue moon, what a joke. My wife and I just bought one with 50,000 miles on it. We live in South Carolina where everything 90% of the infrastructure is highway and I know what you’re saying to keep the car at 2000 RPM you better be doing 60 or less 70 miles an hour you doing 3000 RPM now I can do it when I drive the car. But my wife doesn’t understand the whole gear ratio rpm thing and I’m trying to let her know the importance of not pushing this little car over 60/65 miles an hour. It has plenty of pep to get around.
i have a na miata and had a k11 micra. the micra didnt pass mot anymore so i went looking for something new and ended up with a almost fully decked out 2009 mazda 2 s-vt touring. the only option i dont have is unfortunately cruise control. however that can be fitted as all the cables are there (buttons are almost unfindable in europe it seems though) sometimes i really wanna swap it out for something more luxurious, i really like big sedans, but these little cars are just so fun and tossable, cheap to run, easy to maintain, practical as a city car (my main use) and they look so damn good for their age.
I just traded in my 2011 Mazda 2 on November 7th 22 for a Nissan Frontier, The Mazda was a good car with no issues. It was not powerful but had good mileage which is why I bought it. One accident where I barely touched the right wheel of a late model BMD and it took out my whole front end. This is not the car to give to someone you love. Traded it in for 3000 thousand dollars with 94 thousand miles on it. I drove all over Northern Minnesota, North Dakota and Canada with it and slept in it too as the seat reclines all the way back with my pal Monty the wonder Yorky/ Weener dog riding shotgun. 5-speed manual and never got stuck in northern Minnesota snow and it start at 37 below zero for the 7 years I lived there.
These are quite popular here in Canada. I have a '12, 5 spd, you'd be surprised how well it corners. Highway is not a problem if you're driving near the speed limit. I think they were an under-rated car. Their low hp rating didnt make them fast, but they are fun and reliable. At least, I find mine to be so.

Well my wife has auto 2013/250,000Km it's like a Mini SUV ,the big cost was replaced all 4 shocks lots of pot holes in Toronto ! They don't sell the 2 in Canada anymore so will not be replacing it. Radio sound goes out sometimes , UA-cam will show how to hit it just right ,but better to just replace it.

@@ClaudiayAdeel bad wheels and tyres make a big difference. If you're on 14 inch wheels and economy tyres that might explain it. When I first got mine it had the oem 16s and the tyres fitted were poor. Car understeered and oversteered when pushed and the dsg light was always on. Replaced worn out Chinese tyres with sport rubber and it made a massive difference to the character of the car. You get a little bit of body lean but that's a Mazda tuning characteristic. It's well controlled and grips well. Aftermarket parts exist - particularly from Japan - if you need to modify it. You've probably replaced yours by now anyway though.
I wish my college car that I had was this, but I had its Honda rival, the GE fit instead! I think it looks prettier than any fit or Yaris hatchback of this era, even compared to its next gen IMO! I am changing some exterior parts just for the looks😄 but it drives amazing. And tbh mine only has 75 hp but it still feels damm good on the highway just because it is light as hell
The Mazda 3 is much bigger. 3: Weight=2866 lbs (1300 kg). Length=181 in (459 cm). 2: Weight=2359 lbs (1070 kg). Length=156 in (396 cm). The 3 also has a lot more features and options. For the 2 in the US, the only choices are "Sport or Touring?" and "manual or automatic?"
I've got a Mazda 2. It's an alright city car, but does poorly with bad pavement due to fragile suspension and a stiff ride. The automatic transmission is also pretty unremarkable and not known for excellent reliability. Personally I'd consider a used Golf 2.5, Chevy Sonic or second generation Hyundai Accent hatch over a Mazda 2. Obviously the Honda Fit is king, but they command a hefty price used.

I had a Fiesta, and test drove the Mazda2 twice. Fiesta was better all around.
@@onethirdmayo8556 1.5 petrol/ gasoline/benzin does not share the gearbox with Fiesta. Maybe the diesels 1.4 and 1.6 do as these engines ar of PSA/Ford origin.
I have this car, I love that the steering wheel has no buttons. I’ve seen cars with buttons galore on the wheel and the only thing used is the volume. The radio is cheesy, reminds me of my first portable mp3 player.
I live in a congested city and I wanted something with a backup cam, but when I tried this - you’d have to be blind not to be able to park this guy.
Some people have commented they were pleasantly surprised how comfortable my seats were.
Damn man i have the same car but in here its more advanced and not that basic
Im in southeast asia btw
He says that its annoying to take one of your hands of the steering wheel to change the radio, seriously how is that hard, Americans complain about everything, its a basic car what do you expect anyway
does it have cruise control?
I have got one, and not really impressed by the drive/comfort. Handling is not really savy either. Planning to sell it already.
Handling is the main showcase of these cars lol almost every one does rally or track races and can be compared to civics
@@ralphire77 well, apparently I am not part of those "everyone" you are talking about, that proves your theory wrong. Apparently it's not everyone who agrees with you.
When are we going to get build updates?
We neeed a review on the mx3
Agreed!!! MX-3!!! pLEASE
Can I import the car to kenya
This might be a silly question but do you think this car would make it from LA to Las Vegas?
What you thinks gonna happen? The cars just gonna fail midway?
I wish my college car that I had was this, but I had its Honda rival, the GE fit instead! I think it looks prettier than any fit or Yaris hatchback of this era, even compared to its next gen IMO! I think it's a fun car to drive but inside it's tinier & not as practical than the Honda fit I drive! My cousin used to own this!
Honda Fit is a lot more practical and it's 1.5L is faster. Mazda2 is maybe a little bit funner though.
@@christopherjohnston6343 and roomier too. My friend used to sit in a 2 like this, it's really tiny especially the back seats compared to equivalent fit's huge back seats. Also, stronger resale value too (which is most people's highest factors in buying a car)
Mine is a blast
It’s a budget car, so the interior is very understandable
I bought one myself 6 months ago. But its manual and from 2009
Its such an underrated car I love it as my first car.
Altho I must say. I am changing some exterior parts just for the looks😄 but it drives amazing. And tbh mine only has 75 hp but it still feels damm good on the highway just because it is light as hell
Can i a turbo on it?
i love mine, as u can tell by my profile picture lol
the festiva/121 was actually a kia
11dic2016: Paseo de los Minions
14mar2023: GREENSTAR
I'm about to sell mine in favour of a new MX-30.
Its not "Demo" Its Demio in other parts of the world.
I bet a Festiva is more a 121, moreso than the other way around.
The mazda 2 sedan looks just like the Mazda 3. I wonder what the difference is? 🤔
@@AisuruMirai oh okay. Thank you.
That’s a pretty decent shitbox, something I would buy.

Are these easy cars to die in?
a typewriter for ladies
Little faster than a Mitsubishi mirage
Don't take it on the highway??;?!?!?! What ever wife takes hers 90 crap my pants Everytime....
No way?! 90 ! :O
@@SataniaMcDowel Not even kidding 😂
Why do u Americans prefer fat cars?? U can’t even use the full potential of the engine over there😂😂😂
Americans are used to big V8 cars . Powerful but fuel thirsty.
@@passager01 Yeah the problem is, its completely stupid. U can't drive more than 70mph over there before u get caught😂😂 That's what I don't get. V8 are great but why do u want a v8 , you cant even drive fast.
We don't that's just what they make :( and every 2 door is over priced or too old to comfortably get replacement parts
Please dont yell.
