God, this match is heart wrenching to me. Hearing the commentary about his future prospects only for the accident to happen hours later is so tragic. He was one of the first players I really got behind when I first got into the sport, and to see him go having never won an Olympic medal is so unfortunate. I hope he's enjoying retirement, though, after as successful of a career as he had, he absolutely deserves it.
After this match, Kento Momota was travelling to the KL airport when the driver of his van crashed into the back of a lorry. The driver was instantly killed. Kento Momota was injured in the accident and he had to undergo surgery. The accident put an end to Momota's fantastic run of winning 11 international titles in 2019, being world champion and world number one. @@yan5524 Completely agreed. Among all those, I'd say the most important are his consistency, defense and strong mentality. @@SirChocula Yeah, it's very difficult to beat Momota. Unless you have very steep attack (Axelsen and Shiyuqi) and super high pace (Ginting), as well as consistency, stamina and strong mentality. Everyone was talking about how utterly invincible Momota was during this match. He seemed to win tournaments at will. We know he's overcome 1 year suspension, accident and covid. I don't know what happened to him this time but I hope that whatever it is he will also overcome it.
As i understand, he has issues with his vision and reaction speed now. This also creates a bit more hesitation in decision making, makes him slower, which is fatal for his defensive play style. He has also lost a lot of confidence now which is hard for him to build up knowing he is nowhere close to his past physical abilities, which creates more issues for his game.
Kento Momota is on his way back to Japan today with a good and stable condition. He may need only 2 weeks to become fully recovered. All of his limbs (2 arms and 2 legs) are still totally perfect.
momota plays badminton as perfect as nadal plays tennis on clay. The olympic gold medal is the biggest challenge for him to conquer in 2020. Hopefully he will accomplish the greatest mission in badminton and become a living legend.
Back to when LD was in his prime, there was LCW to match him. But right now there isn't any player to stop Momota. We got a new LD but we still need a new LCW.
1:00:05 you don't like that he's smiling and having fun while playing badminton for a living? The dude was tired out of his mind and was clearly going to lose. Give him a break man.
The reason for his smile is because its obviously that momota is intentionally giving him the point. At that point it was fun and games between the two. They've seen it and decided to just go for it.
yes, I agree with you! axelsen realized that there is no way he can turn around the situation, and why not to just enjoy the moment and smile after the audience appreciate what he did in 59:46. not all frustration ended up disappointment but sometimes with acceptance and humility.
Nah it's called discipline, and attitude. There's a reason why players like LCW/PG/TH/LD are called legends. What separates good players and legends is their attitude and discipline.
