When hiring you to do the job, they should have issued you with a permit to do your job, also outside the "boxes" or even better, they should've sent a government person with you, both as a guide but also as someone who would be able to speak with the security guards.
I was literally hired in this country by a real estate developer who could not even give me a permit to shoot their own buildings... and they wished I photograph them in a nostalgic romantic way (while running away from security)...
Nice Vid Roman, happy you put it back up, it's helpful to see your experiences in different countries and how the authorities set their rules regards to filming and photography. It can't always be plain sailing I suppose but it gives the rest of us an insight into travelling to these locations and the things we need to be aware of👌
Excellent stuff Roman, glad you put this up. Also nice to see an honest opinion not just saying how fantastic it is and how well you were looked after.
Your channel is becoming one of my favorites more and more. Entertaining and educating at the same time. Take care of yourself and keep up doing such awesome content. If you ever come to Berlin, let me know.
Roman, I’ve been a fan of your channel for a while and have learned a lot along the way. This one, however; I find to be your best ever and raises many questions as to just how you and your colleagues put it together so well, particularly the superb video. Perhaps a “The Making of the Abu Dhabi Trip” followup? Best wishes for your continued and growing success and happiness, sir!
Invites a photographer to promote Abu Dhabi through photography, and then doesn't allow anything bar obvious pictures that all look the same because of their restrictions on photography!! Madness. Even if you personally do get some permit or guide/official to talk to security, others won't have that backup. Constantly hassling tourists who are simply taking photographs is not the way to promote any country/area of interest. That has certainly put me off travelling there. I'm not saying you can roam anywhere you like when visiting a country you have to be sensible, as should the authorities.
I often use the Brenizer method to compensate the lack of angle even with people in the shot. This method is also great to create square format images. In 9:48 two shots combined could open the whole thing (btw: a great shot!). In 10:54 two wide shots combined cut in square would be awesome. It took me a while to get it and now I always use this method. It gives you more possibilities.
Excellent travel photography video. I'm very happy you are doing more of this format. You do such a great job of mixing photography and location information with the joy of getting out with your camera. Hope to see more. Thanks.
Awesome photos! It was nice to hear about the trip as it was unfolding. After reading about all the troubles you had earlier, I’m glad to see you posted this video 🤙🏼
Great video, so glad you put this back up. I am so sorry you had issues, I lived in Dubai for 12 years and I have never seen people describe having issues with videos there, so its a shame that you go and visit and that’s the experience.
Very insightful video and great photos! I really enjoyed the POV scenes. It would be cool if you show how you edit some of the photos you took in this video.
Photography in the middle-east is not without its problems, whether it is the blinding sun during much of the day or dust and sand in your equipment, If you were working for the Tourist board then a letter in Arabic confirming that in your back pocket would be advantageous or one of their Arabic speaking staff at trickier situations. My main problem in Saudi (much more restrictive) was the number of different police and security forces, religious, military, cultural, the National Guard etc. etc.. You have a good eye for graphic compositions. If you have not been to Istanbul then give it a go. Great lighting, people and of course, food! Enjoying your channel.
Thanks Tony! Yeah I’m not not I will don’t Saudi. Never say never tho. As for documents, yeah I have them that feedback already and they are working on it for future trips. Cheers
Awesome video, after watching your first one from Abu Dhabi I was gutted when you decided to take it down (although totally understood). Really pleased that people reached out with positivity and that you decided to upload the rest of the footage. Always enjoy your content and keeps me inspired. Thanks :)
Great to catch this the second time around. Appreciate your honesty with the photography situation despite being under on behalf of their tourism industry. Hope your recommendations to them will help them loosen up a bit
Cheers! I took it down because I had a complete aha moment in Abu Dhabi and changed a couple things lol.... if you got the guide earlier you would have been emailed with an update. if not, it is updated now
Very nice photos, it gives a great insight of how you tackle these beautiful places! Also loved the story telling you did during the video about the locations, keep it up!
Super location Roman, great shots. My favourite I think was the lady in red under the three arches at the mosque. Great job, fab location, thanks for sharing.
Im happy you resisted the trolls and posed the video. All together it has been good experience for future projects :) Love how Erenjam was fixing the sand dune :D
So glad you decided to upload this! Really interesting locations, beautiful photographs as always. I didn’t know it was possible to fence in a desert 😂
The Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque is so beautiful! It's a shame that photography there is restricted at the moment. It's still in my bucket list, though. I hope they lift those restrictions sometime soon.
Would love to see you come to my country. I'd be more than happy to host you for the duration of your stay here :D Uzbekistan, Tashkent. In case you consider :D
The dune on the very back looks like painted around 17:26. I think that's because it is out of focus at f/8. May be if use soft focus filter or digital analog for the rest two dunes they will share this effect?
Cool video, especially given the challenging light! How do you protect your equipment so as to protect it from the sand? you really managed to salvage your zoom by just using it during the day?
I dont understand why people hate this video. There are no violations committed, *It's just to explain what and the purpose of taking pictures in Abu Dabhi.
Umm, when you take some pics at the sand dunes, are you not feeling hot? You should wear long-thick sleeve to cover your hands from the sun, and wear a cap to protect your eyes. Edit: nvm, you already wearing the black jacket
Production, production, production. I am a former director of photography (Rolling Stone/Travel + Leisure, etc). My job was to sit with the creative directors and choose and hire photographers for the different assignments and portraits. I would never have sent you and your friends out to this location without first obtaining permission to film and also organize the schedule around the dates those locations were available. For the last two decades I've been a full-time, freelance photographer and traveled the globe shooting for clients. The first thing I would do before heading out is compile a list of locations. Contacts for those locations, opening hours for the locations and note any specific challenges those locations might present. This sort of pre-pro lets you get your head around how much time to allot at each destination and ultimately, get the pics you think you need. And any country with a semi-autocratic government presents even more challenges and something to be aware of while on assignment. In the end you got great pics so focus on that instead of the ones you think got away.
Great video , Abu Dhabi seems to be a lifeless place lacking any sort of character that represents the native culture , just looked like one big movie set.
Hey Roman. When you’re filming b-roll on the x-t4 are you using IBIS for it? Asking because I watched another video recently showing that there tends to be a digital wobble in the corners when using ibis on the x-t4 but I didn’t notice that at all in your video. Thank I’m advance

@@snapsbyfox Nice :)
Came here to say exactly this.

So glad I get to watch this since I missed the original post and sorry about the experience you had!
Really glad you put this video back up, and great job capturing these locations in spite of all the restrictions in place!
Excellent stuff Roman, glad you put this up. Also nice to see an honest opinion not just saying how fantastic it is and how well you were looked after.
Thanks man!
The locations certainly helped, but I honestly think those were some of the most beautiful photos 📸 I have ever seen. Amazing job! 👏

Some of the nicest shots I’ve seen. Well done and what an amazingly beautiful place.
Didn’t realise until I started watching it that you had removed and re uploaded it Roman, much better with the added content
Love the vid! I’m so glad you ended up releasing it :)

Great video - helps me set my expectations for my trip there next year
Very cool video. Those shots, the architecture and city looks amazing!
This was great. I'm so happy you didn't take it down. Well done Roman!
Awesome photos! It was nice to hear about the trip as it was unfolding. After reading about all the troubles you had earlier, I’m glad to see you posted this video 🤙🏼

Really glad you got it all sorted and were able to put it back up. Fantastic work.

That's *Sir* Faizal Ansel Adams Westcott to be correct 😂 Great video man, it really encapsulated our trip (minus the mini bar)
How could I forget. My apologies Sir.
Great video Roman, thanks for sharing as always! Do you plan to republish your button mapping tutorial vid on the XT-4?
Cheers! I took it down because I had a complete aha moment in Abu Dhabi and changed a couple things lol.... if you got the guide earlier you would have been emailed with an update. if not, it is updated now

Summer really fantastic shots in there man
Cool video glad it ended up live again.
Cheers!!
Funny how you're literally being paid to capture content for them, yet you're constantly getting told off by security for taking photos
haha they said next we will have permits etc
Great compositions
Stunning photos in this vlog, sir! Great video!
Super location Roman, great shots. My favourite I think was the lady in red under the three arches at the mosque. Great job, fab location, thanks for sharing.

The Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque is so beautiful! It's a shame that photography there is restricted at the moment. It's still in my bucket list, though. I hope they lift those restrictions sometime soon.

I really don't understand why your videos caused so much trouble! Great videos and you did what you were asked to do.
Cheers!

That Gopro footage looks clean
Cool video, especially given the challenging light! How do you protect your equipment so as to protect it from the sand? you really managed to salvage your zoom by just using it during the day?
nah im sending it for servicing.. it is still full haha. you can't... even if you are careful it's in the air and makes it's way in

Lovely. All DR100 or is DR200/DR400 helping with the intense sun? Thanks!
They are RAW files but even so I have the camera always to DR100
Have you heard of "hats"? I've heard they work great to protect your eyes in bright sunlight. Never tried one, but the idea seems promising.
Very animating footage of this region - thanks for that!
Btw what happened to your video of strolling along Dubais marina?
The Q&A vids I usually take down after a couple weeks or so
You should visit Lebanon While your in the UAE. I think Lebanon will have lots of historical area's and beautiful places to photograph.
yeah for sure on my list
Not gonna lie, that title had me expecting you to be escorted outside of an area with a bag on your head or something hahaha
hahahah!!
Very nice photos…which film simulation is that on the xt4?
They are all edited from raw. however when editing I use Astia mostly in LR
@@snapsbyfox ah thanks for the info because I noticed the color of the pics is very closed to the video output. Nice.
Hey Roman, I haven't watch the video yet but I wanted to ask you if a third edition of your Zine was on the way ?
Yeah, in the next couple months :)
Quality 👌🏼
My brother!
Great video, and well worth putting it out. Looks like a great place to go if you can live with the red tape and rules.
Cheers! yeah the light is amazing but as you say, quite restricted
Very nice video
As a person that been there before, security is quick to stop you.
feels like highly polished prison
Empty street photography would be more appropriate. The paradise for photographers who hate life and people so congratulations for your performance

The wobble comes from either ultra wide lens like 10-24 / 8-12 at anything below 14 ish.
Or from digital stabilisation. I don’t use neither of these
I thought you took out the video, not this one I gueas
Rather than sunglasses you could have just taken a hat, like panama hat.
Propaganda
Wait for my upcoming video tour of Yemen, sponsored by the Saudi Arabian government !
Sterile and oppressive (not the three lads!)
Im glad someone noticed my clean clothes

Cheers! much appreciated. I will do that but on another travel video.... I don't think people want to see or hear more about this place lol
