More of these please. More just the photography, it’s very fun to hang out and see the process / journey
Roman and James...an awesome combination of photographers
This was great! You've inspired me to shoot more in my own country. Hope you enjoyed it here :) I've been learning so much from both of you
same here!😁
How's your home a photographer's theme park!?
Something I have started to do with my photography is that I give myself a style for the day and then try my best to end up with 3 different photos with the same style and can see a clear connection between them. It has helped me learn how to come up with more creative composition of photos and how to photograph normal everyday things and make them seem special
Hey Roman, I've been watching every single one of your videos for around 2 years, and I'd like to take this time to say thanks and to let you know how much I enjoy your content, and how much I appreciate what you do!
You have been inspiring me in so many ways that is hard to express it all in a single comment, and also teached me a lot :)
I don't know what exactly felt different in this POV, but this is my favourite one so far, maybe as it felt more slow paced and also the way you talked about the places you were at, and explained your thought process while composing the shots as well, along with some vlogging, probably a combination of everything, but anyways, congrats for this video Roman! As I said, my favourite video of yours ever!
Cheers!
Also, I like a lot videos with you + other photographes, like Mike Chudley, James, etc
I am 100% in the 50mm (FOV) club. Recently got the 35mm F2 R WR as my first Fuji prime and I LOVE IT.
I've been using that lens almost exclusively for almost 3 years now and still am in love with it!
Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 or 0.9 may be even better.
@@morespinach9832 aren't those manual focus only and more expensive?
Really enjoyed the delirious caffeine-withdrawal Roman at the start of the video. Very funny and entertaining. Great video.
That close tram shot with the cathedral on top in the back, the lighting and fall off to the left, just incredibly cool, perfect editing in my opinion. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Roman, really nice to meet you and James on Saturday. You were very nice!! Best of luck
Thanks for saying hi mate, it was a pleasure!
@@snapsbyfox the pleasure was all mine, hope to see you back soon. Would love to show you guys some places. Not just for photos||
Masterclass. Your best photos have a Cartier-Bresson quality to them. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Enjoyable video Roman. I've been dedicated to 28mm for so long until this past weekend in NYC and I shot 50mm equivalent the entire time. It was actually a lot of fun to force myself to do that. I haven't done that since my student days. I love seeing the two of you together btw!!
33mm f/1.4 R LM WR is the best XF lens FujiFilm makes IMHO. The sharpness and level of detail you can achieve with that lens and 40MP is mind boggling wonderful. 50mm FF is a fantastically versatile focal length. If I had to pick only one lens this would be it. It was nice seeing you walk around and shoot. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
Way too large for one lens. Voigtlander 35mm f/2 APO would give you that sharpness but smaller size. F1.2 would be nice too. But the 0.9 is spectacular.
Lisbon is absolutely beautiful and charming, especially this neighborhood in the video (Alfama). It brings back so many good memories from when I went there...
I have a feeling that I will enjoy this series. As always, great photos.
Just ordered a 50mm F1.4 and I can't wait to shoot with it. New to photography. Waited 25 years to get started. Thanks for the video!
Thank you. I loved the video, you taking us out with you and talking about your process and thoughts while taking a picture. I also do like your idea of doing a dedicated video for each focal length. Thanks again. Take care
The fifty never fails! This looks like an amazing town to shoot in.
Love the video, also the DJI pocket footage is quietly gorgeous
We visited Lisbon last year. Ahhh, the colors! Your photos take me back. Thanks!
An incredible and relaxing street photography video! I'm waiting to see James Popsys' video too! I hope you both enjoyed Portugal, maybe one day you can explore the interior of Portugal (rural areas), I think you'll love it! They're not very busy streets, but they have an incredible "human nature" as James Popsys likes to say...
Your channel is soo good! These videos showing the walk-around and your composition process is so enriching! I'm nowhere close to be a good photographer, but am enjoying the process so much.
*something something* "OH THERE'S A DOG!!" is the most relatable thing I've seen on here! I really do miss Lisbon. It was an amazing city to live in.
Nice to see that you return to Lisbon. Those are some of my favorite spots to walkabout and take some pics, too.
Very interesting and informative video, and you made it look like an adventure movie. Popsys presence helps too, because I like watching you both.
I use all of the PSAM modes, sometimes changing between them rapidly, depending on what comes up. I'll never understand why anyone defaults to Av mode. Why not use P as your default? With program shift, you can prioritise aperture or shutter speed, in either direction. It is like a joint Av and Tv mode. AEL then becomes a thing you use.
I'll use Av when appropriate, but for walking around, anything could happen, photography, P is by far the better default.
I absolutely love my 50mm lens as well. I bought a 2nd hand Sigma EF 50mm F1.4 ART lens for my 1DX and couldn't be happier. It beats Canon's EF 50mm F1.2 in every aspect while costing significantly less! It's as sharp as a well-honed straight razor when it comes to image quality, even in the corners it's just ridiculous how good this lens is. It's the one lens I would keep if I had to give up all my other lenses!
The 50mm was, for me my, first the focal length that, I used to start taking pictures. I rarely use it today but, I have a lot of nostalgia for it and admiration for photographers like yourself, who use it very well.
Very nice shots. Next time try the sunset at Fundação Champalimaud.
It was fun seeing you go to some of the spots of my Alfama tour.
Hope you enjoyed it and you're always welcome back!
Hey Roman, just wanted to say how much I’m enjoying your videos and your creative process. I’ve just bought an XT5, upgrading from my old XT1, and heading on a holiday across Europe soon. Super excited to improve my skills and your videos have been a big motivation to get amongst it. Cheers!
Lisbonne est vraiment magnifique … et la meilleure focale du jour, c’est celle que l’on a montée sur son appareil 😉
Merci pour ces belles vidéos, si simples et si inspirantes
One side benefit of the XH2 and XT5 is “sports finder mode,” which allows you to see outside the frame, but does 1.25x crop. It makes the 33 f1.4 act more like a 75mm lens when needed, and reduces file size a bit.
Really enjoyed this format and the video itself. Made me feel right there on location trying to make something of what I see. Thank you very much
Such a beautiful city. So much interesting places.
I’m with 50 and just tried the 35 last Saturday.
I love them both
For me nowadays its 40mm Fullframe or 27mm APS-C. Best focal length
Same.
Canon 40/2.8 awesome pancake for cheap and high quality
Great information on constructing the composition of a photo. Cheers
Will be visiting Lisbon in late March next year and this is wonderful inspiration. Thanks for opening up your process.
Good video of one of my favorite places. I enjoy watching you work in streets that look pretty familiar. Thanks
i like your take on gear, because you see them as tools, not like precious treasures. i tend to fall in love with gear so your videos kind of balance me and get me back to taking photos not just looking at my camera 😁
Except Leica q43 now :)
Great Video, especially for a person who came back home from Lisbon one hour ago 😂 I spent 10 days there including a five day street photography workshop 😁 all the places look very familiar to me
Love it! Great video and looking forward to the other focal length videos. Can you talk about your focus square and how you use that with your photography?
Love these kinds of video where u talk to us ur thought process of a taking a photo. Love the new direction u r going with ur channel
It’s always great to see my two favourite photographers in a video.
unbelievably gorgeous shots!
I found the format of this video highly enjoyable. By the way, I recently visited Lisbon and walked through the same streets seen in the video. At 4:55, I even took the same shot 😉. Lisbon and Porto are both great cities for street photography.
I've started sharing your videos with non photographer friends because these are just so simple and beautiful...❤
16:15. What a photo
Enjoyable video, lots of great still images. Nice to see James along. While I liked what you did say when talking us thru your setups, you didn’t give us a lot of specifics regarding the focal length limitations you were dealing with and how it drove particulars of compositions. This is more a showcase of what you accomplished with this lens (and your style) than a stream of consciousness about the equipment itself. Was that your intent?
I started with a 50 over 50 years ago and still enjoy that perspective immensely. Nice to see it get recognition and I think it is a superb place to start a series.
50mm is definitely my go to! But trying to mix things up. Thanks for the videos dude, inspired some of recent work in Lisbon. Such an amazing city, it seems like I just missed you guys!
yeah its easy to get married to one focal length
2 brilliant photographers :) love this
I love this, man. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Wow nice to see you here cuckoo! SEGA Megadrive music forever!
Loved all your commentary and explaining what you like the look of. Thanks for sharing! Been really enjoying your videos.
Great video, Roman! I have a love-hate relationship with 50mm, but tend to crop the hell out of 28mm or 30mm, so it was good to see some method behind 50mm compositions. Thanks!
Great Video, full of inspiring moments, scenes and tipps making me a) to go to Lisbon someday and b) use my 35f1.4 more often - Thanks Roman 👍
Great relaxing and interesting. A perfect watch with my morning coffee
Pretty good video. My next vacation spot. Looking forward to get nice shots there. 😊
Very interesting to hear your thought process when developing a scene. Good one.
I love Lisbon, every corner you seem to find another great photo opportunity.
Have fun at the Everest! Cool pictures as always.
Great video , Roman. Always learn something new about a photo perspective. Was in Lisbon a few years ago for 3 days then had to move north to Porto. Camera did a workout.
Last month I got the Ttartisans 35mm f0.95 lens (50mm ff equivalent) this is my first time with this focal length and I love it. Hasn't left my camera since it arrived.
Was just looking at that. I have the Sigma 30 mm 1.4 so a bit hard to justify but it looks nice.

Danke für deine tollen Videos. Deine Videos sind fast mein zweites Hobby! Ich freue mich schon auf viele weitere.
Very inspirational and educational video, thank you!
Really enjoyed this video and watching your photographic process.
Seeing this I want to go back again. I love Lisbon.
Really missed the photo walks, love this
I almost cough my coffee out when Roman said “he or she whatever the pigeon is” 🤣🤣🤣
This was great, looking foward to the other focal lenghts too
Great shots, love portrait orientation for a 50mm
“smells of piss here” @3:45 😂😂😂
Great lens series!
Coffee + photography =
DJI pocket 3 footage looks sick.
Lisbon is the best. Great food, great nightlife, great scenery, has it all. Shame I went when it was rainy and stormy as hell
Really enjoyed the video and hearing your thought process! Will be following this series closely!!
My two favourite photographers
I made the mistake (I jest) of getting books of 50mm photos by masters (Bresson, Doisneaux). As a result, I'm walking dozens of miles but barely taking any shots with my new 33mm (50mm equivalent) because I've become obsessed with perfect, almost photojournalistic moments! XD
I'll be ok once I get back in my groove. A thing for me to remember is that perfect human moments in photography can be more like 'perfect split seconds', so I have to get really good at anticipating them. Training my technique and spider senses.
As an aside, there's an awesome, complex boardgame called Lisboa that is worth a purchase if you fancy having your tactics stretched and have two or three likewise friends. It's about the rebuilding of Lisbon and by a fabulous Lisbon local - Vital Lacerda - who's done some of my favourite (always crunchy / skilful) boardgames.
Yeah what you have to remember is that the masters of 50mm also took a lot of not as good shots that you don't get to see
@@CianMcsweeney Yeah. I remember watching a video of Doisneau breaking down his efforts to complete his Venus Prise a la Gorge photo. After various 'failed' attempts, I'm pretty sure he implies he got them to hold the breasts of the statue they were putting up (or at least encouraged them in that direction. And, voila! - his famous photo was taken!
Love my Nikon Z 50mm f1.8s lens, super sharp and light❤
I love your content mate. In fact it has inspired me to impoverish myself with the impulse purchase of an XT3 on eBay. 😂 I am of course using your user guide to get to grips with the camera.
Thank you!
@@snapsbyfoxthank you for the content and the guide.
Quick question if you don’t mind?
The camera is quite a few firm ware updates behind. Do I need to put each one in or by jumping to the latestone will it cover all the ones in between?
Many thanks
Rab
@@robertlamont2611you can do all at once with no issues
@@robertlamont2611 You only need the latest.
You guys are doing what I should have done in Fort Worth Tx today. darn.
Excellent video. Hop a train to Sintra if you have time. An interesting area just to the west.
Brilliant 💯
Found you recently and love your stuff! This video is a sign though, just this morning I booked 3 days in Lisbon for the weekend after next and I’ve been looking for a 50mm to replace my last one that developed some haze. And now I open YT to find this video!😂 Need to find a 50mm before I visit Lisbon! Keep it up Roman!
great video! can't wait to see the rest of the series
What I find absolutely remarkeable is the fact that you use AF-C and a small focus zone.
Great job Roman!!! You gave me some great ideas on using my 50mm. Cheers 😊
I really enjoyed this video. I would like to see more videos like this!
How I know 50mm is my go-to: When I open the iPhone camera app it's almost muscle memory to switch straight to the 2x 'lens' (48mm equivalent)
I'm learning a lot from this video!
Amazing video. Thank you 😊
Great location and shots. I wonder if people or vehicles get hit by the trams. They move fast and the streets are narrow…
Jolie promenade dans Lisbonne. Je remarque que nous avons les mêmes sujets (le bord du Tage, le maat, l'expo de Joana Vasconcelos, les tram dans l'Alfama... ). J'aime bien vos photos. Peut-être un jour prochain dans Lisbonne. Ate Breve.
Wish i could go on a photo trip with you two! That would be fun I think. And I would learn something. I love my 40mm f/2 Voightlander. But that does mean that I have to focus manually (no big deal). Europe is so much more interesting for taking city photos than North America, generally speaking. I mean, who wants to see photos of shopping malls and McDonald's?....... I guess it's not that bad. We do have Golden Gate Bridge and more. I just need to get off my b... Cheers!
I’m sure there are plenty of cool places there too! A big US trip is in the works!
You should come to Toronto if you can fit it in.
@@snapsbyfoxif you come to Los Angeles hit me up.
“Old cars”? Making me feel old! 😂
Join the club!
I remember those little euro hatchbacks when I was 17… and they were in max power magazine next to some bird and massive speakers. Times have changed
I LOVE this style of the video. Do you mind please sharing whether you have used a microphone to film this or what the micro camera is on you?
Roman, a question. I think you were shooting auto shutter speed and iso. My experience of shooting like this is that you blow the glimpses of sky out that you get between buildings. How did you avoid that?
And great video 😊
This vid is too much of a coincidence: 1) Visiting Lisbon soon and 2) thinking of what lens to bring. I have a 50mm and 40mm and planning to bring both. I was initially worried if they would work in narrow streets. 3) I've just got Moscot Lemtosh eyeglasses today as my prescription changed. 😎
Really fun, insightful video! Love seeing you guys going out on these photo walks together! Two of my favorite photography channels! Correct me if i’m wrong, it looks like you’re both rocking the Bellroy camera sling?
Although I shoot all primes, 21, 35, 50, 85 and 135... I have to admit, I miss my Pentax HD D-FA* 2.8/70-200. Can't beat a really decent zoom. Trouble was, it weighed 1.75 kilos and with K-1 plus grip and batteries, the whole lot was around 3.25 kilos.
Amazing video as always! I will be traveling to Lisbon next year and was wondering where some of your "must-see" spots are? Heard you mention Alfama so I already added that one to the list. Also where do you recommend staying in a air bnb/hotel?
