I saw him in 81 at the Nassau Coliseum. The album could not have been out for more than two weeks. He played the first few chords of this song and the entire crowd started singing. Bruce just sat down on the edge of the stage and let us sing the first verse. It was freaking awesome.

My father loved this song. He passed away in June last year. Today I was working on his house fixing it up for the first time since his passing. While playing music on my aux cord my car randomly switched to the radio station which has never happened before and the aux cord did not disconnect. I believe this was him giving me a sign to listen to this song and know that he’s there and proud of what I’m doing for my family.

that was definitely a sign quincy. when weird stuff happens like that after a death and especially with something electronic or a wire of some kind sign is in front of your soul. you just got to put 2 and 2 together. I say this because I hear to many of stories that can't be explained like yours and always a year or less after a passing. get that house project done sir and thanks for posting your story

The first time that I saw Bruce in concert, he started Hungry Heart and the crowd sang the entire song and Bruce let it happen just strumming his guitar!
I remember when my Mom bought the album in a department store. I was 8 years old. Those days are long gone but I'll always cherish the memorable times.

Over the years, I've only liked a few or more of his songs, this being my favorite. Over thirty years ago, as a teenage boy, living in my mama and daddy's basement, this song forever struck a chord in my heart. Mainly, because of the first few opening lines, along with the beautiful music. This song has forever been a treasure piece in my heart and mind.

@@rickycole6327 I don't know if you were aware but they actually slightly sped up his vocals to get this higher pitch that you hear. Hence why it's a pretty unique sound in his catalog - his voice is technically pitched up !

@Oswaldo Zuniga Actually, I ALWAYS replay that first drum riff and instruments rolling in, and then Bruce's "Yah!!" a few times over every time i listen. It's the perfect open. You can see the spike at the very start.

I don't think that it was meant to be a feel-good song. If you listen to the words, the guy in the song is a very unhappy, lonely and desperate person who lives with the shame and pain of having abandoned his wife and kids; and yet wont go back home to reconcile with them, and instead goes to bars to drink and meet women for yet more empty short term relationships as a way of escaping his feeling guilty.
i was in St.louis when i noticed the quality of this song at a college bar across from St. Louis University. it's simply one of my favorite songs.

I am retired military. I have 3 wonderful children who love me and now live with me (well 2, 1just graduated from OCS) IVE SORTA lived this song. Never seen the inside of a courtroom... We handled stuff like adults. Yes there were ruff times but OUR children are happy healthy and well adjusted. And reaching for the stars. No matter "our" problems... We always NEVER disagreed about our kids and we BOTH gave 110% to them in our own ways and NEVER made "OUR" failures about or involved them. She is a GREAT woman! And the BEST mother a child could ever ask for and want. And because of her my children still love me. And for the joy they have brought to my life now that they are now with me I will always be greatfull and in her debt.

I have never seen a musician with more energy. Back in August of 2016 my boyfriend and I saw him at MetLife in Rutherford NJ. The man played for 4 hours nonstop.

I have never been married and its very lonely at times over the years. This song gives me comfort when I'm down to know that even those who are in relationships also get very lonely sometimes (misery loves company).
