You have to keep in mind that even stockfish probably needs to run like 5 secs before spotting a move like that. You have to remember Svidler when he was younger was a super gm level player. With the help of the eval, I wouldn't be surprised if he found it himself. However, I do not rule out the chance he used stockfish in such a tense and complicated position.

    Magnus' nervers are something else. I think Kramnik talked about it. He said something to the effect of Magnus may have strongest nervous system of all the players. It can be such a deciding factor in crunch situations.

    • @kylezo
      @kylezo 11 місяців тому +3

      I think it's hard to judge. if he was up against someone consistently stronger than him and closer to the #5 player, then we could see how his nerves hold up. As it is, he's confident because there's not such a challenge present and his track record proves that. he doesn't have to rely on having hard nerves in the same way that his challengers do, and certainly not to the same degree. not by a long shot. i would assume he blew past that when his brain was developing as a teenager and he was already crushing. then again, maybe the nerves helped him develop his skill with the game. pretty chicken and egg.
      there's also the idea that he sort of doesn't care about chess that much, as evidenced by his dipping into poker and dipping out of chess and all that stuff. it's clear that he doesn't take the game over-seriously - meaning like he obviously takes it seriously, but not *too* seriously - and I'm sure that helps a ton in quelling nerves as well, not having your entire worldview or self-worth tied up in the game if it's the center of your life, etc.

    This is a case study in both how to play a fantastic end game and alternately how NOT to announce it. Too many chess announcers feel compelled to stream of thought shout out potential moves in an effort to be first one to mention a move. The end result is a wonderful end game being a little less so for the viewer and a lot more frustrating. It would be analogous to Bob Costas having the camera switch to him as he shows us on a white board all the possible outcomes, meanwhile the game winning goal is scored off camera.

      I much prefer having grandmasters and IMs commentate on the game, give their live analysis on potential moves and also analysis on why moves are played. That's why Gothamchess is the GOAT in chess commentary because he knows how to explain the thought process behind moves and why some moves are better than others.

      I think that after Kb2, black just needs to go Ne2. This attacks the queen and covers C3.
