  • In this video we take an in-depth look at the rapid expansion strategy including how to use it to establish your economic foundation and stifle your AI competitors.
    We go through the 4 stages of the Rapid Expansion Strategy: 1) Early Expansion, 2) Cattle and Wheat, 3) Pass-through Warehouse, and finally 4) Maintenance.
    This is a versatile overall strategy that can be applied in whole or in part to many campaign missions and scenarios.

    Noticed you click eight times to set the minimum amount of carloads on your raw goods runs to eight. You can accomplish the same thing with one click by clicking the minus(-) button one time.
    Also noticed that you check city stats by map jumping/opening/closing each city individually. You can use the arrows at the top of the city stats page to scroll through them all, and it groups cities you "own" together so you don't have to arrow through cities which you do not. Valuable time-saving methods, thanks for all your tutorials! :)

    I don't know if it's a new(er) feature, because this video is already a year old, but I noticed a thing:
    (nowadays) the numbers on the 'minimum/maximum wagon amount' wrap. I've seen in many of the videos that you're setting the 'minimum wagons' to 8 by clicking the '+' sign 7 times... but you can (at least now) simply click the 'minus' sign once when it's at 1 wagon, to put it straight to 8. Saves some clicking :)
    I only just picked up Railway Empire and your videos are a great help! They're clear, well set up and to the point! Great job!

    First off, this video was EXTREMELY valuable to me, so thanks!! Anyway, I'm playing vs competitors for the first time, and I was just wondering: do they also collect innovation points? Or do they rely on me to ignore some things/creating an auction for them? ie. If I use my points to buy EVERY new train, could they be stuck using the original slow train throughout the entire game? 😂 🤣

    • @Adekyn100
      @Adekyn100  3 роки тому

      Glad it helped. Your competitors do research above and beyond what comes up for auction. You can tell because they will sometimes be running faster trains than you which makes getting express status on a line more difficult. You can also tell by the fact that your spies will come back with technologies stolen from your competitors. The best way to ensure you are running the fastest train is to buy out all your competition.

    You do great railroad work. Have learned much from several of your vids. Love the fact that you use spreadsheets to run the rails (nice to know others do as I once did). One request in relation to this vid and perhaps others. The tracking of warehouses is still a mystery to me. You might consider inserting some simple line track charts into your presentations for warehouses so a slow guy like me can understand all the "ins and outs of warehouse layouts." The freight line going through the pass-through warehouse carries all the goods produced by the two cities. A train will go to Des Moines full, unload, then load any exportable goods in Des Moines that are needed in KC. It will then go to the warehouse and complete its load with raw materials from the warehouse. Then it will go to KC and unload everything (manufactured goods from Des Moines and raw materials from the warehouse). Then it loads manufactured goods in KC that are needed in Des Moines, goes to the warehouse to top off with raw materials and repeats the process.

    • @Adekyn100
      @Adekyn100  5 років тому

      The short answer is no. Same strategies, slightly different applications. The signaled warehouses are handy for handling a lot of traffic. The maintenance depot didn't seem to help at all. The auto-signaling stations are nice but you sacrifice some control over your lines.

    I'm wondering why you put the supply towers in the middle and not just outside of your station? I've learned from Railroad Tycoon that the trains will slow down to stop at the tower then they have to build up speed again, and it's the same here too. So why not at the station where the train is already slowing down? Wouldn't that make them run just a little faster?

    • @Adekyn100
      @Adekyn100  6 років тому +1

      Hi John. Did you notice that i did not place as many sets of signals between the cities on the city to city lines as I could have? I want to "slow down" the trains so that they spread evenly and come into each city at regular intervals. This gives time for passengers and mail to gather at the station for pickup. If the trains come into each city as fast as they can the amount of passengers and mail available for pickup will not be as great and each train will tend to run with less to carry and thus less income when it unloads at the other end. I do set up multiples blocks (sets of signals) on the freight lines coming directly into the cities and set the supply tower at the end of the line near the city. There is no advantage to slowing down the freight delivery.

    • @JohnLopezSr
      @JohnLopezSr 6 років тому

      Adekyn, I was following all that.... The part I didn't know was your placement of Supply Towers on the freight lines. I've been meaning to ask this question for quite some time, about the placement of Supply Towers. In one of your earlier videos you talk about not sure if the supply Towers should go in the middle or at the end of the line and all of the videos that I've watched so far you placed the supply Towers in the middle of the line. What are you saying about strolling down the trains, I understand completely.

    • @Adekyn100
      @Adekyn100  6 років тому

      I remember discussing the supply tower placement (middle versus near the city) on other videos. I played around with putting them near the cities so that they could be reused by other lines that would come in parallel to the original double-track line. I haven't done much with the idea. How do you place your supply towers - middle or near the city?

    • @JohnLopezSr
      @JohnLopezSr 6 років тому

      Adekyn, before this discussion I always placed my towers close to the city but you make a lot of sense in the way you plan them out so I've been following that rule. One difference I've noticed in planning supply towers in Railroad Tycoon and Railway Empire is the physics of the speed of the train when they get going again. In Railroad Tycoon the trains were slower to get going and get up to speed but in Railway Empire they are at full speed pretty quickly, so placing the towers in the middle does not seem to be much of a hindrance.

    Also, it seems that someone in development has been watching your videos. The trick you used in placement of the small station in Rochester to block the Doc from building racks westward is no longer possible. There is a small stub of track coming off the western end of the Doc's station that prevents you from placing your station like that now. :/

Well getting back to my reason for messaging was the you said to stunt growth of a competitor early, well I know you have 3 comps. here but on scenarios with not as many all you have to do is ATTEMPT (that’s the key word as you don’t want to be successful) to but out a NON useful and as detrimental as it could be industry, every time you don’t win they spend, only you want to start the vids, not to win them, you want your comps. to waste money on bad industries not yourself! After you know they have bought said pointless industries then you can hand pick your real industry at the cheap rate! This way of ripping of your competitors is naughty and sometimes doesn’t go the way you want but if it’s done 1st thing you do then you can reload the game and try again quite easily.... if you need more info let me know and I’ll explain in detail!
