I totally agree about gyro. It's the number 1 thing that makes an FPS playable for me because I come from a lifetime of KB&M gaming. The Steam controller was my number 1 for FPS games until the Deck came out, and now I love the Deck controls even more! Having the sensors on the thumb stick to activate gyro is a GODSEND. Absolutely knocked it out of the park IMO. I can't wait for a Steam Controller 2!
I found this video very useful. I actually ordered the rear attachment for PS4 Dual Shock controller. I had couple of these lying around and I find it the most ergonomic controller out of the bunch such as the XBox or PS3 controllers. I am having a blast with the Steam Deck and the amount of games that are available on the Deck is insane. I hope Steam keeps improving this product and looking forward to the updates.
Steam Controller. I want a v2... but I want it to be a proper v2 that follows the sc v1 and puts large round trackpads back in the ergonomic primary position. Yes its polarizing. Yes its niche. But its absolutely amazing, and its still the best controller ever made for its particular goal (kbm games, only in situations where you dont want to use physical kbm). No, the Decks built in controls arent an evolution they are a regression away from innovation and back to a more traditional design*. Just because the pads were included doesnt make them good. And yes I have a Deck to compare with; I cant use the pads on the Deck the same way I would on the Steam Controller due to ergonomic reasons. ... I still think a "Deck Controller" should exist, though if people were honest with themselves I bet a dualsense with a back button attachment (or the upcoming Edge) would easily cover 90+% of what people want a Deck Controller for (dual stick primary, trackpad just there to occasionally control a cursor or act as a smattering of aux buttons thanks to virtual menus) * Which is fine. The Deck is a linux tablet/all in one pc with a not insignificant buy in price. It needed everything, and it also needed to be familiar enough to not scare people away. However, external controllers are not beholden to those two restrictions. If fightpads that strip everything off the face save for a dpad and 6 face buttons can exist, then a proper sc v2 can exist too. My dream sc v2 would be: v1's overall form/layout capsense added to the sole left stick 2 additional grip buttons better tech specs on account of being newer better build quality than v1 (giving special attention to the bumpers, which are notorious for breaking on v1)
While the Elite lacks gyro, it is directly supported by Steam input. You can use keyboard inputs with the Steam controller, all buttons and paddles. While you can use a Dualshock 4 with the paddles, those paddles are not recognized directly by Steam input, you can only map the buttons that exist on the controller itself. Hopefully Steam supports the Dualsense Edge the same as the they do with the Elite.
@@pauldeshield Actually, I just saw a video from Gamespot (9 days ago) that DualSense Edge support (backpaddles included) was implemented in the newest Steamdeck update. Pretty fast on Valve's part.
@@pauldeshield I'm sure it's a fantastic controller, the price is crazy but what can you do. I enjoy my Elite on Steam. But a Steam Controller 2 would be better. Just double check those facts because no one else but Gamespot has mentioned this, and I don't want you to get burned if they are misinformed.
You should definitely try out the GuliKit King Kong 2 Pro controller. This is what the definitive Steam Deck controller really looks like: Gyro, hall sensor sticks, hall sensor triggers, multiple input profiles, cross-platform compatibility, and many more features I'm usually missing with other controllers. If I can't use the GuliKit I mostly end up using the Dual Sense, since this one also has Gyro and easily beats all others in terms of overall quality and connection stability.
I really wanted to get the Gulikit controller, but without back buttons I could not consider it for this list. For me, those extra buttons are essential, especially when considering the Steam Deck. 👍🏽
I have gulikit KK2 and tbh it sucks because of the Input delay, it messes up with FPS aim. Wait for their KK3 and they said they’ve fix the input delay of the controller!
the ps5 controller is def a good controller if you want most of the steam decks functionality in a controller, gyro, a touchpad for those menus that only work with mouse, and its usb c
It's been a week since I acquired a PS5 controller because what you say is what I read everywhere. Well that’s bullshit. The PS5 controller is not compatible with all games. Just to give a few examples, Subnautica does not give any vibration on the controller unlike an Xbox controller. Dredge just doesn't work with this controller. The vibrations are not very well managed depending on the games, either it is correct or it is too weak. I just ordered a new Xbox Series X controller that I will receive tomorrow to replace my One controller that the Dualsense was supposed to replace.
@@SharpMaxwell No user error, no, I received the Xbox S/X controller today and retested the Dualsense before connecting the Xbox S/X. Just to activate the vibrations, you have to go to settings > controller then "calibration and advanced settings" to deactivate and reactivate the vibrations, otherwise there are no vibrations. After some Steam Input settings I was able to play Dredge with it, but the same, no vibrations... In the end, before I even connected the Xbox S/X controller, it no longer had any battery even though I had fully recharged it out of the box, that ended the opinion I had on it. The only thing I found really nice was the trackpad for navigating the menus. In the end I connected the Xbox S/X controller after updating the firmware and everything worked directly without any problems and I have good vibrations everywhere. I also ordered the Armor-X Pro from Bigbigwon to have rear paddles and a gryo on it. The only real advantage I found in the Dualsense apart from its trackpad was on PC on Helldivers 2 (Sony game) where indeed the vibrations of the triggers and haptic feedback were of really very good quality. But this is one game among many others and the battery is absolutely not durable, it's just no.
I have 2 questions: 1- Can the DS4 touchpad be configured just like the Steam Deck's dual trackpads? Like adding virtual menus (Radial menu and Touch Menu)? 2 - If you add an accessory with back buttons to the DS4, can those extra buttons be configured to a different input than the other buttons, like we can do with the Steam Deck's rear buttons?
I don't think so. The back buttons can only be a button on the controller, but not a separate input that can be mapped. I haven't made a video of on it yet, but you can do that with the Dualsense edge controller
@@BarelyAverageDude I was watching another video about this Dual Sense Edge controller and there are a couple of things that I disliked: 1 - The price ($200+); 2 - Only 2 rear buttons; 3 - Touchpad not as good as the Steam Deck. Just got an elite series today. It seems like some buttons need to be pressed twice due to some input delay or some thing on the steam deck. Have you had any problems similar to this?
