- Since Battleships are becoming more boring to play I've been trying to play other classes and find interesting ships to play. Radar minotaur was brought up and I had a lot of fun in it.

This is literally THE best example of a High Risk High Reward ship. Not ashamed to say it, the skill ceiling is far beyond me.
Right on. I finished Neptune (smoke, of course) sometime last fall. The experience scarred me for life. I knew (1) I didn't want to play smoke Mino and (2) I wasn't good (or calm) enough to play radar Mino. Someday maybe.
@@andrewbc5415 get the Mino', the Neptune is not a good guide to how Mino plays, or it's survivability - Neptune is the only ship i ever free xp'd (other then T1-T4's) after about 20 battles. Bought her back later to play properly. But, i repeat, :) , no comparison between the 2.
@@andrewbc5415 Imo both are outstanding, albeit high learning curves for each. In some ways Neptune is superior to Mino, it's longer range AA actually makes it easier to ward off CVs, and you get higher alpha per salvo with 12 shells as opposed to 10, making Neptune's surprise strikes against DDs even more devastating.

@@philipdawes2661 You might have talked me into it. I had not thought of the double rudder upgrades. I'm pathetically paralyzed by the whole Mino/Woostah decision.
I've basically played exclusively radar HMS CLs as soon as I got Edin. Totally fun, and has a lot of impact on a game.
How to play ranked?
Step 1: Take Petro or Stalin or Thunderer into battle. You are checking the "pool".
Step 2: If there are many DDs take radar Mino. If there are many BBs take smoke Mino.
Step 3: Profit

I do something similar to this. Checking with thunderer for CVs and quickly switching to my full AA Halland build. It's so fun to see the CVs complaining about the 9 flak with 3.5k DMG and 550 continuous DMG. Most of them don't even get 1 strike off.
In 5 battlws I've seen everything. 5 dds and no bbs. Or being the only dd and full of cruisers. Can't actually read the pool always
@@07azrael depends on the time of day, at night there are way less people in the que so you pretty much know before the game what you are facing
@@Julian-gj8si not on EU. 5 consequous games you can have 5 DDs per team in first and 1 or zero DDs on other. Yesterday we have had 3 DDs in one match and next match was 3CCs, 3BBs + CV without any DD. Sometimes you have 4DD+3BBs etc - you cannot predict here

@potatoquality I took your recommendation and tried out the radar mino. Had two of the most fun matches i've played in a long time. Exhilarating and tense, made me focus more on the game mechanics and try to out smart the opposite team. I wish every ship in the game gave this experience but it would seem the maneuverability of this ship makes the whole playstyle come alive.
You should try the Italian and Japanese line. They are more maneuverable and play similarly. Can aggressively torpedo, but can't punish DDs as much.
I started running radar mino in randoms about a month ago. I play it like a Worcester. Been having a lot of success with it lately. People don't expect to see radar mino's, and I think it's that element of surprise that gets a lot of the dd's.

I've enjoyed watching you transition away from BB's since 10.0! My own play has mirrored yours, I've played far more DD and far less BB games. Cruiser has stayed pretty similar but having transitioned heavily into the British CL line, very fun; rewarding ships that are a challenge to play. I'm going to give radar a go with a similar build on my Neptune; I'll probably just go pop, but its all about supporting the DDs.
Radar mino is a ship I love, but damn can it be punishing.
Personally I don't like smoke mino because of the slow shell speed for farming at range and the potential of one good blind fire being back to port.
Radar removes that because you're always dodging.
I went with Surveillance Radar modification 1 for slot 2. I hate it when DD's disappear so that extra 20% radar coverage brings the active time to 52.8s

For me this line of ships is working best, when People on ranked do not want to team play. Leander is great, Edin is a hammer for it's tiar
I only play radar mino, i played one smoke mino game on accident and was severely disappointed. Radar mino is one of the most fun ships in the entire game.
Mino and Neptune are my favorite ships in the game. I used to take double rudder but I've settled into a concealment with smoke, RPF, and Hydro. If a DD is smoked up, I'll just use the smoke against them to get into hydro range, delete them, and be gone before anyone has a chance to react.
Another great player of the Minotaur was Business. Damn that guy is good at brawling with this thing!

One thing regarding why Mino AP is so hilariously powerful is that the autobounce angles are almost SAP level: 60° to 75° on Mino vs 70° to 80° with SAP. So while you will get more bounces than with SAP, you will still get some pens at similar angles to SAP. Which is really crazy considering the ROF with which this thing dispenses balans.
Wow I was just playing this build recently. It is so fun.
Only issue with Minotaur is that you have to suffer through Neptune...

Neptune is good when you start learning how to play its strengths and overcoming its weakness.
Radar Neptune is viable when playing solo, you harass DDs like you do with mino, you might not be able to kill them outright but you can help your DD secure the cap, and with T9 being often devoid of CVs in MM. you are in a much much safer MM then Minos that are always often playing with fire when radar built.
Glad to see radar mino get the spotlight, it was my first tier X and still my favourite. 100% agree about the smoke being a crutch, if you play radar mino and even don’t use the radar well, when you switch back to smoke mino it feels like easy mode.

Oh remember when worster came out. Me radar mino, he playing worster. Spanking those doubleDs.. Oh my! And for some reason everyone ignored my mino, and went after worster (because he spam)

well this just confirms I need to farm that line :D I don't know why but I love Cruiser lower tier they still feel very underwelming (tier 5-6-7). Does any of you guy's got a recomentation for a good youtuber to watch for this class?
I killed two Stalingrads and a Daring i picked up on the way with Minotaur, and the generally did everything right trying to kill me. Torps hit several times, and guns smelting them.
Also had a hillarious game bow tanking another Minotaur in the middle of Trap. Very good ship, if you know how to play. Dies very fast if you Ness up.
I'm confident the Zao and Venizia and have better rudder shifts, but if not, I'm certain the Ibuki and Brindisi have the best of Tier IX and Tier X ships.
Very fun to play them the same way, just harder to catch and punish DDs.
Minotaur is one of the only cruisers I respect. You show skirt? You die. You shoot? People can angle. Balanced. Also, if you're looking for new ships to play, I feel like the new Napoli coming out will be your style.
I played radar Neptune and was more successfull than in radar Minotaur....go figure....learn you must , Minotaur Padawan.
I think mino is fine as is. It needs to be able to kill bow in targets because it lacks HE, it needs the insane shell damage because it lacks HE to set fires to deal the big damage. And it's low survivability that punishes any misplay is enough to balance it imo
Radar & radio positioning makes a great dd hunter. ;)
an other supper fun build is Worcester with range mode and doulbe rudder. You just troll and burn camping BBs like a boss and they can hit you.
"if you want practice in dodging battleships" man i love you video but this this is a tier 10 ship. by the time you get there you know this game inside out and maybe have even a long beard.
Oooo nice i am trying to learn radar minotaur atm but didnt think to use steering gear mod byt it makes sense, your conceal is already good enough and radar same range. I use improved radar duration in slot 2 also because as you say fires dont really matter on this ship due to the heal.
Yeah doublerudder is good concealment too. 9.1 concealment when u are open u now in Radar range is a dd

Radar minonis the best mino. I have actually die much fadter and lose more in smoke mino.
Its as polarizing as the RTS CVs. You see a lot of bad ones and its a joke but then you see that one good one and sh*t gets real.
Radar Mino, best Mino... only way to play it. Thats the only way I've played it since I got it.

Interesting build indeed. I use the Dunkirk brothers on my Belfast and Minotaur, they really help on ship commander skills. With the current Mehta i have been destroying the DDs near caps and periodically being able to cap (depending on how many enemy radar ships there are), then starting to work on the BBs.
Nurnberg shares the same armor pains if you want something lower tier
I got out my Thunderer a few days ago to take a break from my radar mino....so boring! The mino without smoke puts you on edge from the start to the very end of each match. You are always one BB salvo from death..even when at full health. Your utility to your team is at the whim of matchmaking and your team's play. Open maps increase the difficulty considerably. I play an AA build - and focus my game play on DD and air denial. If you have a DD (your side or red's) that is cap focused (about half the time) you can have a strong impact on the match. With an AA build you can protect your dd's and any pushing BB's on your side. When red's CV get's a bee in his bonnet and focuses you - watch your plane kill counter take off!
You will consistently take the cap on on your side if you're working with a DD. Match win/lose goes down to how your team handles the other two caps.
Keep in mind that when you are detected you are the primary target....every red ship in range targets you! They will ignore your team's DD that just dropped torps at them and try to take you out first. I don't have the map awareness that Potato_Quality has and I can't dodge/predict to his level so I'm pretty mediocre at the unique game style the mino introduces into the game. But it's a lot of fun...the most fun I have in the game is with the radar Mino. You play like a dd (with good torp potential), hit like a cruiser (guns), and fold like a house of cards when broadsided.
Yep I like ranged mino but with smoke I build full aa also and act as a buffer to screen my BBs from the enemy CVs is so good watching the CVs planes melt and they get so frustrated and any BB that sits bow in still melts as the saying goes (Throw enough shit at the wall some of it will stick 😊).

I have 62% WR on my radar Mino, I can attest to the hilarity of this ship. No DD can really fight this thing unless they're on a div with another radar cruiser or they miraculously have their entire team pointing their guns at you. It's a build that bullies DDs into quitting the class, and is one of the few remaining cruisers strong enough to make T10 CV players think about striking you next time.
Funny, we just did double minotaur + smaland division, and one of the minotaur equipped with radar... team work is OP!

How would this setup work on Neptune? I know it's a bit bigger and clunkier in general, just curious since I haven't unlocked Mino yet.

It is viable and fun in random, not so well in ranked against skilled dd players. A radar Mino can rarely catch experienced dd player in a bad position in ranked, and those 152 APs cant pen angled dd so it all depends on how unpreprared your dd oponent is. I have many experience facing a radar mino in ranked in a dd. Even when caught sailing towards a radar Mino by her radar, all i have to do is just reversing, use W/S key in alternation if necessary, and the Mino doing the radar trick in this process usually got obliterated or HP-decimated by 305mm+ APs, or she would quicky get out of the 10km radar range kiting away, and I will chase it to make sure that Mino is kept spotted to be deleted if there is no enemy dd present nearby.
Despite of the poor survivability and utility in ranked in my opinion, a radar Mino is still one of my favourite ships, it is fun and adrenalin-inducing.
The deadass, opps I mean deadeye meta has been so great for me in Minotaur. I take smoke instead of radar with RPF. Since the center of the map is so open, I go in after the DD then can smoke up and farm the BBs.
My damage record happens to be from a match in a radar minotaur. She's such a fun ship. Nobody expects a radar mino. Makes harassing destroyers hilariously easy.

SO you can dodge like Ali, you can out spot cruisers, 40s radar DD's that out spot you and torp anyone that tries to charge. So its the super-cruiser equivalent to a DD, A SUPER-DESTROYER hahahah im gonna go grind it up

I really need to take my Mino out more....(I really need to get better at it) but I get so caught up in grinding another line I tend to forget about it.
Never tried Mino with radar, OR the double rudder shift. I guess she can manage with slightly worse concealment. I love all the glass cannon boats, but Mino is my favorite. So versatile, so powerful and quick. She may seem OP but all it takes to kill her is one big shell from any angle. So I don't think a nerf is warranted.
That's true, I was hesitant to say it should get nerfs. I just find it strange how much damage it can deal with AP on bow in targets. But you are right it dies quick so a nerf really isn't needed.

I’m just going to put radar on every T8+ British CL so I know how to play radar Mino very good. The hilarious DPM is going to be amazing.
I absolutely recommend it, I am still stuck on Edinburgh not because I don't like it, but because it's so much fun I play it without flags for exp.

My favorite is playing as a DD trying to contest a cap alone with multiple enemy ships in and around it. Your team bitching about your play when they are playing from way out side the cap.
Got reported for that. For not pushing a occupied cap in a EU dd, meenwhile the guy reporting was sitting in smoke 10km from the cap. Got to love the memes :)
This happens soon often.. You're way further forward than the rest of your team, asking them to kill the radar ships, but all they do is complain that you're not capping... And surprise surprise, enemy radar ships are still alive by the end of the game..

I just wanted to point out that an Ibuki with accelration mod on the 4th slot and steering mod on the 5th slot has a rudder shift of 4.4 secs while maintaining a concealment of 11.3km. This is how I played Ibuki and I kept getting games with 2 to 3m potential damage. I was a menace to DDs. No reason this shouldn't work for a radar Mino.

Aw radar minotar AKA "smoke is for WUSSIES!", cant say iv gotten to the point where you have the choise between smoke or radar on the British light cruisers but, i agree smoke is a bit of a crutch. DDs love torping smoke and FEAR Radar, enough said.
