- Henry VIII is remembered today for being a brutal monarch who ordered the executions of thousands during his reign, including two of his wives. Anne Boleyn's shocking execution inside the Tower of London saw her beheaded by a French Swordsman, but witnessing the proceedings that day was a young boy. He was the illegitimate child of King Henry VIII and his mistress Bessie Blount, Henry Fitzroy. Fitzroy was showered in titles and honours by the King, who celebrated the fact he had an illegitimate son. At the time he cheated on Catherine of Aragon with one of her ladies in waitings, but Henry its alleged was even considering naming his illegitimate son as his successor to the throne.
There were even talks of marrying Henry Fitzroy to his half sister Mary, who later went on to become Mary I of England. However Henry Fitzroy its known was a sickly child, and he died at a young age. This its said devastated Henry VIII, who genuinely believed Fitzroy could possibly become the King of England one day after him. However Fitzroy was buried very quickly and today is at rest in Framlingham Church in Suffolk. It's been debated what killed the young boy, and it's believed that he had an issue with his lungs or TB, or that he was even killed by the pneumonic plague. Henry Fitzroy is remembered today as Henry VIII's illegitimate son, who could possibly have become the King of England and another Tudor monarch.

Considering the shakiness of the whole Tudor question, wouldn't have mattered which side of the bed his son was born.
It is actually believed that Bessie Blount served as a Lady in waiting to Anne of Cleves for a time before she became ill and returned home.
How different history would have been if Fitzroy had been king Henry iX..no bloody Mary era, no Elizabethan era, just so much would have changed.
He probably had cystic fibrosis rather than TB.
Cystic fibrosis is genetic and would have been evident long before he died.
TB was a major killer of all ages well into the 20th century.
Henry actually had another Henry from Catherine of Aragon. But he died in infancy.

There was a rampant epidemic of a disease called the sweating sickness at the time and if I am not mistaken Arthur Tudor(Henry's brother who would have been king hadn't he died)died of it -many other prominent people in Tudor times died of the sweating sickness and modern scientists still don't know what type of disease the sweating sickness was!Don't think it was TB.
Anne Boleyn survived ‘the Sweat’. Historians do not know what this was: it had different features to other known plagues.
Thank goodness Prince Andrew has self developed the cure .

Where is the 'painful' part of the boy's death? I'm sure the 'sweating sickness' was not a good way to go, but the title of this offering seems misleading for sensationalism.

It seems as if the male children of Henry were particularly vulnerable to being sickly and to dying young: Prince Henry, son of Catherine of Aragon (born and died 1511), Henry Fitzroy, son of Elizabeth Blount (age 17), and Edward VI, son of Jane Seymour (age 15).
Henry may well have a blood disorder which I'd why his children kept dying/being miscarried.

@@umwha that’s not how it works… Rh incompatibility only affects the fetus if mother is negative, father is positive and baby is positive. Also, this only affects second pregnancies and later pregnancies when blood mixes during childbirth on the first pregnancy. Then the mother’s immune system creates antibodies against Rh positive blood and why subsequent pregnancies end in miscarriage.
@Sharee Mitchell it wouldn’t affect the babies if he was Rh negative. He would have to have been Rh positive and the mother would have to be Rh negative for incompatibility.

In no way did I insinuate that a mother's behavior has no effect on the child.

The women in that era used lead based makeup, questionable medicine and didn't bath. I always wondered if this had a hand in high mortality rates with in the upper class?
They did bathe much like a sponge bath. Queen Elizabeth I used a tub and bathed often.
Also, they were all pretty much alcoholics, as you die could from ingesting bad water. So, wine was a multiple times a day drink for them. Nobody really knew anything about health or drinking alcohol while pregnant, etc back then.
Its interesting to know how karma existed then as it exists now.

I believe so, but ultimately he was considered her husband's "child".
Many historians believe Mary Boylen's first child Catherine was Henry's daughter but they are not too sure about her son as Mary and her husband were not living in the Royal household or court at the time he was born. Incidentally the present British monarch is descended from Mary's daughter
Fascinating video, but as a UA-cam narrator you should practice reading with a more conversational tone. The inflection of your voice is the same on every single sentence. It’s a common thing for people to read like that but it’s also what separates great narrators from mediocre.

I see nothing of his father in him, but feel that he looked very similar to his grandfather Edward IV. Edward, had it all. (Henry VIII didn’t). Good looks , charm, royal blood untainted by any commoners. A very good general magnificent physic and to women he was extremely gallant and kind. Of course with the Tudors they never made mention of their Plantagenet blood, there were too many of their nobles who could claim that, this making the. a potential threat to the crown

If you look at Henry VII and his son, do you see any familia looks there ???? Then look at Edward IV and compare descriptions of both. They were both over 6’ tall with powerful physics, (unusual in medieval time) and highly intelligent. . Kids can look like either of their parents. What I said was he took after his grandfather , i.e. He got his appearance from his mother, Elizabeth, of YORK. rather than any Beaufort, his grandmothers line. There is some degree of inbreeding in the various royal/noble houses.

May I suggest you do a bit more reading on matters medical…consumption IS tuberculosis. It is not inherited. It is a bacterial infection highly contagious at certain points of the disease. Other than that I found it interesting …thank you…..as also suggested put a bit more inflexion into your voice..

Interesting information as always but as usual the script is astonishingly badly written , as to be laughable. You desperately need an editor who has a sense of proper, good writing. One thing you could do is go through and cross out every 'rather'. The atrocious scripts really undermine the whole channel. And he didn't 'did die' ..... he 'died' - simple as that. Change 'gutted' to 'devastated'. Gutted is a horrible word.

Really counter intuitive of them to "strengthen the royal blood line" by marrying with the family... This in turn was probably a huge factor in the display of many different genetic disorders.. this can mildly be seen still today with some customs pushing for their children to marry their visions in parts of India. At least I saw a documentary on that and it greatly increased illnesses with these families... But they were really nice people, it's just a unhealthy custom in the culture.
