    Hope the new location is going well. So glad to see you keeping us all up to date with WTNS for each month and Im always awed by the lovely photos which you choose in the competition each month, you must see some lovely work. Looking forward to the eclipse this month, we dont get all that many events here in Australia, but we do have awesome clear skies over most of the country, except the nights theres something extra special to see 😂😂when clouds seem to appear, just for spite I reckon, to spoil it. Cheers Cheryl

    Thinking of you today - 17 April 2024, when I saw the first meteorite of my life! I was hanging out with friends at home, when we all looked up and saw a beautiful meteor quickly form low over the eastern horizon, 15°-25° I'd say, and then split into 3-4 smaller meteorites and vanish, all in maybe 2 seconds. It was so beautiful. Thanks for all you did, Alyn.

    *Question::* How is it possible to see Venus in the sky with planets other than Mercury? A few months ago we could see all planets in the sky simultaneously when they aligned. This month Venus will be seen with Mars. How is this possible?
    It would seem that catching a glimpse of the inner planets (Mercury & especially Venus) would be rare because they are on the "daytime side of Earth," but Venus is visible pretty much every night.

    • @boldcounsel9406
      @boldcounsel9406 Рік тому

      *Also:* Here at 3:35 Venus, aka the "morning star," will be visible close to Midnight (when Earth should be facing completely opposite of the sun/Venus). How is this possible?
      Sorry if this is wordy. I like to be accurate. Thanks.

    • @AlynWallace
      @AlynWallace  Рік тому

      @@boldcounsel9406 Venus is much closer to Earth than Mercury so its elongations are significantly bigger and typically extends 45-47 degrees away from the Sun. Some other things to note, midnight and solar midnight will differ. And at midnight we are not facing directly away from the Sun because of Earth's tilt. During summer at mid to high latitudes the Sun doesn't reach very far below the northern horizon around midnight so Venus can easily linger in the sky until midnight.

I watch you for a long time already hardly ever leave a comment but I just recently picked up the Sigma14mm F1.8 so I am going to be out there probably around February 20 in Canada to try and get some amazing Milky Way shots and according to my app the northern lights a.k.a. Aurora is supposed to be pretty active around that time to.

    My conversation with ChapGPT:
    When is the next total solar eclipse going to happen?
    The next total solar eclipse is expected to occur on April 8, 2024. It will be visible from parts of North America, including parts of Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The path of totality will pass through several major cities, including Dallas, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Buffalo, and Montreal.
    Isn't there a total eclipse on 20th April 2023 in Australia?
    I'm sorry, but there is no total solar eclipse scheduled for April 20, 2023. The next total solar eclipse after the December 4, 2021, event in Antarctica will be on April 8, 2024, as I mentioned earlier.
    There is, however, a total lunar eclipse that will be visible from Australia on May 16-17, 2022. This celestial event will be visible from parts of Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.
    Will there not be totality visible from Exmouth in Western Australia on 20th April?
    I apologize for the confusion earlier. You are correct, there will be a total solar eclipse visible from parts of Western Australia on April 20, 2023, including Exmouth. This eclipse will be visible from a narrow path that passes through parts of Western Australia and Indonesia.
    The total solar eclipse on April 20, 2023, will have its path of totality pass over Exmouth, Western Australia, for a duration of approximately 1 minute and 45 seconds. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
