I love how Charles Is so passionate about making these solo compositions. You can tell he puts his heart into these and doesn't do them to show off.

You instinctively tap a foot, bop or bang your head, grove in your seat and tape your jaw shut to stop from it dropping over his amazing talent.
I am a drummer and any thing he and Davey 504 plat makes me just play a backing beat to them.
I'm not in their league (they are Major professional league, I am the drunken bunch of no talent hacks who's egos surpasses their actual talent)
But it still makes me love and tap the like button over and over.

Thought he was just another bass memer back then, but i still subbed. But two years later, I still get stank face from this dude. That’s coming from a guitar player. That being said, I still don’t like acoustic bass 😂

He lowers the height of his strings on the bass to make tapping easier for him. It's actually easy to tap when you lower the strings.

I'm in my 70's, and used to play guitar. Pretty much most of my life I always wondered what a bass lead would sound like, and why it was never done before. Well if it was done before I damn sure didn't know about it. Then I stumbled on to your video's and for the last 6+ months have been blown away by your mastery of the bass. Thank you for bringing these videos out and showing the world just how versatile a bass guitar actually is when played by a master such as yourself. Again, thank you and keep the vids coming. It makes me happy today that the bass is getting more recognition as an instrument. The guitar is cool, but the bass needs its share of attention for how awesome it is.
Check out Primus, their bass is leading most of the time. They play some ,,special,, music, so you may not be into it for reasons other than the bass though.

My acoustic bass sounds nothing like that, but then again it's not amped up. No doubt he's an amazing bassist but I'd like to hear an actual acoustic bass song.

@@richardaguirre3719 well its either amplified with piezo or mic, neither would equalize poor tapping to be the same volume as a slap without audible distortion, it's still not an electric guitar with mags and distortion lol
The talent this guy has is just on another level. I've never seen anyone be able to do the things he does.
Skill. He probably got some talent, but mostly it is skill he worked for extremely hard.

I'm 38 and about a year ago my 16yo son asked me to buy him a guitar. I got my first bass when I was around his age, but between military service, and just general "adulting," I hadn't been able to play since my teenage years. So, I got it for him, and afterwards started looking at basses for myself, and also starting watching youtube vids, mostly you and Davie. I finally just pulled the trigger and got myself an Ibanez GSR205, and the past couple days have been amazing. I just wanted to say thank you, for your contribution to reigniting the passion I had 20+ years ago. I'm sure once my fingers callus up again and stop hurting, they'll thank you too. Lol

Charles - When I'm stressed, my job is driving me nuts, whatever has gotten into my head, I can always pull up one of your videos and just let it all go. A pure joy to watch (and listen), and you clearly love what you do. Your passion, your calling...it's a delight to watch/listen to you play.
Playing that cleanly on an acoustic is really demanding skill wise. I'm even more humbled than usual!
The sound of this bass is soooo beautiful! I’m always very impressed by your dexterity, especially in this video. An acoustic bass doesn’t feel like an electric one and I imagine that you need more precision to make it sound that perfect. Incredible performance.
When you are watching a charles berthoud video you can only remain completely astonished from the beginning to the end...wow what a complete musician!!
One way you can tell how awesome Charles is is that he puts out new videos faster than it would take most people to remember one of these pieces, let alone learn it up to speed.

Charles one thing you do so well in your composition is being able to sound like playing every single instrument this piece had a little everything Jazz Spanish (Bass) loved it.

Perhaps your greatest sleight of hand in this clip, is getting such a satisfying tone out of a Fender Kingman. I've picked up at least a half a dozen of these, and always been disappointed. Proof that it's the craftsman, and not the tools...

I'm relatively new to your channel and I'm awestruck by your insane musicianship and hearing the bass entirely reimagined. Of your videos that I've seen this one is definitely my favorite (I have no doubt there are others even more impressive). You are simply remarkable.
Holy cow Charles. Wow! The nuance with which you play is what always knocks my socks off. My kid is at Berklee, ( guitar) and you are a part of the reason why.
I have admired many bass players over the last 50 years seen some incredible musicians that I have to say this guy by far is the best overall player I've ever seen.
