  • With the presidential election quickly approaching, people from the left and right are preparing for chaos to ensue. I never thought I'd see the day when liberals also prepared for a societal collapse.

My Dad was a prepper back in the 90s. He was a Federal Agent that was killed in a helicopter crash when I was 9. He stocked up on water, batteries, fuel, MREs, and especially ammunition. I have all of his guns and a lot of guns that I have bought. I try to keep at least 2,000 rounds of every caliber I own except for my muzzleloader. I didn't understand why Dad did this when I was a kid. 25 years later, I totally get it.

I mean the cough single handily proved every prepper right and completely justified them. People magically stopped making fun of preppers when we had major supply chain issues over an illness with a whomping 2% mortality rate. If something like that messed everything up so bad imagine an illness with a 20% mortality rate.

Not to mention what really happened after Hurricane Maria... The leftist mayor of San Juan deliberately left tons of provisions/clean water (sent by the Trump administration) in the harbor to rot/spoil. She didn't even try to hide what she was doing, but the MSM reported it as though Trump refused to send aid. The sick witch literally left Puerto Rican citizens suffering and in danger, just to make a president that she didn't like, look bad. And the leftist dodos still believe it happened the way the clowns in the news media and on Big Tech reported it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ That's gotta be some of the most severe TDS I've ever seen. 🤦🏼‍♀️

He had so many guns, literally like 100 gallons of water, a ton of fuel, 4 generators, etc. tbh I remember one time here on the east coast there was a crazy hurricane that knocked everyone's power out for a week. My liberal friend just laughed at me when I told her that I was on some sort of flight watch list 7 years ago as it was guaranteed I would be pulled by TSA for advanced searches and my bag was always searched. My conservative family would laugh as over and over this would happen. “What the hell did you do to cause this? you are a boring Nurse” I had no idea. I bet my friend, who had picked me up at the airport, that my bag would have a TSA search notification inside… and there it was. The next day we were watching CNN and they announced that the Obama admin had put people on the TSA watchlist who had donated to state election campaigns in very close races in several states that might flip red. I had donated $25 each to four of the campaigns, because, hey they might actually have shot. That’s how I found out how I got on the list, right there in front of my friend 😂 Yeah, they have been abusing conservatives for years.

I'm not from the US. But our Family has been doing prepping for about 3 generations, maybe longer. I've seen it in my own life how it has helped. My father had major health issues and eventually couldn't work for some time. As a kid I didn't even know that my mom had dug into our food storage for those 6 months, till years later when I heard her speaking to someone. It had helped to fill the gap of my dad not been able to work, as what little money my mom was bringing in was been used to pay the bills. Prepping doesn't have to mean the appochlips, but there will always be things like natural desasters, illness or unemployment. And having a stop gap to keep you going till you can figure things out is of huge benefit.

God put on the hearts of many Christian’s and even seekers of God to have enough for their family and extra to share in 2019 and it sounds like back in 1999. This prevented chaos. My cities local food banks were forced to closed in 2020, but families like mine and others shopped less than ever in 2020 and donated more via little “leave if you have and take if you need” boxes because God prepared us. That’s how God is in control, but we have to obey and do are part. Clearly evil would have loved chaos and the false prophets of media kept predicting that there will be a run on food, but it was always when the people who are prepared felt like they should shop less, not more. Prepping isn’t hoarding, it’s simply being prepared a few months ahead of what others are.

The most effective prepping is to learn skills, knowing how to do useful hands-on things. Those icky trade job skills, like basic electrical and plumbing work, the basics of refrigeration/heat pump repair, gardening, etc. You'll run out of supplies. Knowledge is power.
But many in the younger generations are loath to learn how to do something useful that requires getting dirty hands for themselves, much less others.

It's funny at my gym we have a couple veterans who served together in Iraq and they and a handful of others have put together a quite serious plan for what they do if it all comes apart. In their case they are afraid of an EMP or critical strike on our grid mostly. They have a rendezvous point at one of the guy's grandparents farm. They say it's easily defensible, could be modified to be self sustainable, and isolated enough that visitors would be minimal. They have bug out bags, supply checklist, etc...its a legit well thought out plan. A few weeks ago they approached me and were like "we'd like you and your wife to join us if things go bad. You're strong, good at building and a master gardener and your wife does canning and food preservation you'd be super valuable."
They said they would work with me on my shooting - I'm good with a bow but bad with a gun and the military skills needed. It was pretty interesting just how serious it is to them. One of the guys has been a friend of mine for over 10 years and is a super level headed dude but he is convinced it's only a matter of time at this point.

"Knowledge is power." And when the power's out, and the extent of your "knowledge" is based on looking things up online, rather than knowing/practicing yourself... you're stuck. In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The A-Team.

Being prepared is always the best way to go. Throughout history awful things have happened all the time. It would be silly to think that something like that won’t happen again. And if it doesn’t happen? Well then you at least took the precautions, and can share the food you have with others. Sometimes I think the people who make fun of those who prepare are like the grasshopper in that story with the ants who prepared for winter while the grasshopper was busy lounging around. Yeah. We’ve been told to prepare in even little children’s stories. Do you know why? Because people in the past who haven’t, ended up starving or dead. There’s some pretty dark stuff in history.
Despite this mentality, I do believe there is 1000000% hope. I have not lost faith.

You don't have to be one of these doomsday preppers expecting the end of the world to be ready for stuff to happen. A few months' worth of pantry foods, some propane and appliances for it, some way to purify water, and some blankets and sleeping bags would have really come in handy during the snowpocalypse a couple years ago. Better to have it and never end up needing it than to realize you don't have it when you need it.
On a similar note, you always need to keep a list of people you'd want to rebuild with in the back of your mind. Our society is still salvageable, but the chances of that happening sadly keep getting lower and lower. Don't lose hope that we can get through this ok, but be ready to have to restart from nothing after things fall apart.

The icepocalypse that happened in TX was my pre-game. I learned what I needed that I didn't have, which wasn't much, but I was able to at least learn from it. I have no gas appliances, only electric, but I have a massive generator, so I could still power space heaters and things like that. I did get additional heaters after the freeze because the few I had just weren't enough. I have camp stoves and plenty of fuel, and some MRE type foods, plus a freezer stocked with cooked meals that I only have to heat up to eat.
It sucked when the pipes burst from the cold and I didn't know how to shut the water off...turns out my landlord allowed her handyman to sheetrock over the shutoff valves inside, but I learned how to shut it off at the street. And my landlord loved that I had a generator because I was able to immediately start cleaning up the water with my shop vac and carpet cleaner. Still had to have 3/4 of the house fixed (new walls, ceilings, floors) but the damage was able to be minimized because of the work I put in and the supplies I had.
I had to wash clothes by hand in the tub for about 2 weeks, which was awful, so now I have a mini washing machine that can handle several items of clothing and spins them almost dry and works with my generator, and I got a clothes drying rack too.
My family thinks I'm a little crazy, but none of them lost power and water for as long as I did (with kids and a partner who works in refineries and comes home filthy so doing the wash was extra hard) and I don't care who thinks I'm crazy, I'm happier being prepared, just in case.

Do I think we’re headed for a zombie apocalypse? No. But it is so convenient (and saves time and money) never to have to run to the store because I need something. Or having to go shopping during inclement weather or even when/if I just don’t feel like it. I use my back-ups and replace them during regular shopping and when they go on sale. It is really nice not to be inconvenienced or uncomfortable during a power outage, whether it’s for days or weeks due to a hurricane or just a few hours due to a storm. There are all sorts of reasons to be prepared.

My collection of survival-oriented books (including those on basic crafting skills as well as first aid and herbal remedies- better than nothing in an emergency) is rather large. I care about the people around me and I'm not going to leave them high and dry when I could help them. They're decent folks. I want us to survive and thrive. My plans include community defense as well, in addition to childcare. When all the capable adults have to work, someone will need to watch the chillens. I'm physically disabled, but I am good with kids and have had success helping to homeschool my brother's kids. I'll not only keep the kiddos out of trouble, but make sure they are learning useful knowledge and useful skills all the while.
I think it's important for the survival of some kind of society that we are able to band together. People helping other people, rather than the government, is certainly a conservative value. I'm extremely conservative, so wanting to help your community isn't just a "liberal" thing.

Regarding defensive weapons--the last time I was at the gynecologist office for my annual exam, the nurse was doing the usual "intrusive question list". Most of these questions are about the frequency/quality of physical relations, do you feel "safe" in your home, , etc.,... However THIS time, included on the list was this question; "Does your household contain rifles or handguns?"
    "REALLY?!??".
I looked at her and told her slowly and clearly that she needed to mark my chart that I would no longer be answering personal, intrusive questions about my home and family. They could do their exam, send the samples in, and call me if there was a problem.

@@VehementFacts Yeah, it's strange how none of us who believed in Santa as a kid are traumatized. Most of us turned around and played Santa for our kids because we know the pure and innocent joy of believing as a young one. Most kids start to figure it out themselves anyway, so it's not a huge blow when we verify what they already suspected. I was recently dating a woman who treated her young children like adults all their lives. She told me Santa was "stupid as shit, what idiot would believe a fat man came down their chimney to give them presents. She never had that, why should they? I tell them Christmas is about the birth of Jesus". Of course I responded, "So Santa is stupid and non-believable, but it's true and perfectly believable to tell your children that you celebrate the birthday of a man born to a virgin, walked on water, rose from the dead, etc. etc. 2,000 years ago who wasn't born anywhere near Dec 25th and you're telling them that is his birthday when we KNOW it's not? That's much better? They're both innocent lies". My personal beliefs aside, I was making a point that she didn't appreciate LOL.

You need to be educated and trained on how to most effectively protect and use your preps as well. Most people think it's just buying ammo and freeze dried food, and they completely neglect things like medical supplies and training, comms, etc. Read books, watch videos from educated people, go take classes, and build a network of like minded people who will have your back. Trying to do the "lone wolf" thing is just a slower way to lose everything. Stay safe out there y'all.

Honestly, it's just good practice in general to have some emergency supplies ready. I personally have done this for years, and I've needed to draw on them. I was greatful I had emergency supplies during a major flood, a huge wind storm that knocked out our power for a week, I got lucky with this one, but I got a big costco pack of TP in early February 2020 (not panic or prep buying, COVID wasn't even on my radar, I just needed some TP and a family member took me on a Costco run), and boy did that come in handy. Even just some back up food for when we had an unexpected expence and couldn't afford groceries till the next paycheck. It's just smart to be prepared.

I look up to Brett so much I’m a young teen and it’s nice to know someone in my generation actually has their head in their shoulders. I love hearing her views on things and it keeps me from falling down the rabbit hole of my generation. I've spent years trying to convince friends and family to get better prepared, and most of them still don't have more than a two week supply. Heck, some of the worst ones are the liberal family members who live in somewhat disaster-prone areas. They're seemingly under the impression that if it gets so bad that it requires more than a week's worth of supplies, then some agency or organization will just step up to help them.
Worst of all, though, are the family who half-jokingly say, "I'll just come over to your place!"
Bruh. Even if you're someone I'd be more than willing and able to take on, good luck with that. I live in a rural ranching region set high up in the mountains. The moment that things started to get weird in 2020, there were old boys here getting way serious. There were pretty open community discussions of how and when to block roads, as well as which cabins were owned by out of towners, if you get my drift. I don't care who you are or who you're related to, if you're not already a full-fledged member of a rural community, you're better off laying low in the city, at least for a good long while. And unless you have the supplies to get through that initial wave while laying low, you're completely out of luck. Why anyone thinks they'll be able to just run off to a "safe" area is beyond me.
Honestly, it's just frustrating trying to talk to friends and family about preparedness at this point. If they don't get it post '20, they likely never will.
Oh well. More beans for me, I guess.

A lot of preppers focus on beans and bullets and not on independent resupply. In my opinion, if society were to truly collapse, these preppers wouldn't last because of their supply caches, but because of other valuable skills that contributed to the new societies and/or by becoming gangs and terrorizing other people who had the resupply but lacked the other skills.

  • @brandishwar
    @brandishwar 5 місяців тому +4

"Prepping" is one thing. It's always good to prepare for things to go south, even if "going south" means you lose your job for a while. I bought a 30-day emergency food supply a couple years ago and my wife and I might have to dig into it over the next couple months merely because I've been unemployed since end of November. So that emergency food supply can help offset the cost of food for us. But I also made sure to spend the last few years building a savings - plus I got a severance when I was laid off - so we're not screwed right now. Plus I have some gold in the safe as well that I can sell if it comes to that to make a mortgage payment or two. (I have a car loan I'll be negotiating with the bank on, but I'll be doing my damnedest to avoid any kind of deferral on the mortgage since that interest and escrow liability adds. up. fast!)
Paranoia is what is in a lot of people's minds. A lot of people on the left have manufactured so many doomsday scenarios in their head, none of which have come to pass. I mean they spent all of 2016 convincing themselves he was Hitler and Mussolini reincarnated into one body. And they've largely renewed that for 2024. And a lot of people have similarly had doomsday scenarios for a Democrat takeover that sound more like they're coming from the mind of someone hopped up on too many... mind-altering substances.
So everyone definitely should be "prepping" to some degree. Get some savings together - including physical gold and silver - along with an emergency food store, rechargeable batteries, a generator that runs off propane since that keeps longer than gasoline. But keep a rational head on your shoulders as you go about it and avoid falling into the pits of despair filled with the paranoid delusions.
