Simon Road Hokkien Mee Review | The Best Hokkien Mee in Singapore Ep 7
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 жов 2024
- Having done a few of these series now, I kinda can tell when I visit a place that is going to end up in the 'Top 3' when all is said and done.
Simon Road Hokkien Mee does both the dry version and the wet version beautifully. The dry noodles are airy, light on the palate and heavy on the wok hei. While the wet noodles are just packed with flavour.
When you're good at the dish, you can make a good plate regardless of the customer's preferences.

When did you go? I went today and it seems to have moved out. Not even a stove can be seen.
this was 2 weeks ago. they have now moved to their new location at Kovan 209 Market and Food Centre! (All their outlets are closed on Mondays btw)
Is it the stall name Davis prawn noodle?
It’s the last stall furthest away from the Heartland Mall side. Unit number should be 01-66. Signboard isn’t up yet and I think they’re still in the midst of setting the stall up. Perhaps another day or so before operational :)
Uncle has moved to Kovan food center as of 31st May 2023. Will officially start cooking 1st June 2023 (asked him). Unit number 01-66.
cao i went down today and its gone
Really heartwarming to see the uncle being so passionate of his product. That alone deserves an additional "noodle" for the ratings. If only every hawker in Singapore has that same passion 😂
really admirable.
High praises! I need to try this. I must applaud you for paying for the second plate of noodles as well, and kudos to uncle to take such pride in his food and being gracious and wanting to treat you!
man, you really get me salivating every Monday evening. It already looks so delicious on camera and to have you describing it, is basically just torture when I can't have it for supper. Really really looking forward to the finale and I kinda feel like this would be Top 3 too! You mentioned about fried rice... next series? hehehe thanks for the video! Looking forward to the next one!
Not an exact foodie and haven't tried as many hokkien mees in SG but I love Simon Road's one so far. The best is when you dabao the mee and heat it up the next morning for breakfast when all the zhup is soaked into the noodles. Best breakfast ever haha
Simon Road's Hokkien Mee is my favourite, can't have enough of it!! So good! My son normally don't like Hokkien Mee until I introduce this stall to him.
Store owner is such a nice guy. Great review as always Eric! Can't wait for the next one
This show has became my motivation to get through Monday❤
❤❤
My family 3 generations vouch for this Hokkein mee. We have patronised over 30 yrs. YUMMY !!
This store is legend. Good that you started with the dry.
I recently tried the outlet at Lorong 8. Very disappointing because noodles were already fried and they just refried it for a few minutes. Lack of wok Hei and flavour tbh. Will be going to try the original outlet!
The true OG at toa payoh already not there liao.
Has to be the wet version, easily top 3 in SG. The dry version is too dry imho
I lost it at the pew pew pew part LOL good job as always!
Since I'm not too far away from their new location, I decided to drop by just now for a try. Forgot to ask them to fry a bit more dry, so mine was the wet one. Agree with all points you made in your review after trying. Only 'complaint' is that the 5 dollar portion is a bit too small for me. However, the next portion size seems to be 8 dollars, which feels potentially too much. I'll have to try one day when I'm hungrier to find out. Loving the hokkien mee series 👍
thanks for posting this! I have wondered for a long time whether uncle had hung up his ladle for good. another good dry hokkien mee would be the hainan hokkien mee at golden mile food centre
You just expose your next series! In search of the Best Fried Rice in Singapore!😂😂😂❤❤
I just tried it at their new location, which is literally just a 2min walk away from the MRT. Its still so amazing, a little on the drier side, but the stall owners are so friendly, totally worth. (but this time they only gave 1 chili haha)
I found it! And tried it. I also highly recommend! Not disappointed at alllllll!!!
I stay in the north east area and this is one of the better hokkien mee i tried. However, to me the best hokkien mee in sg is the golden mile dry version. anyway i love your hokkien mee series and been a fan.
thanks for watching!
Both the dry and wet version is very, very good. Simply love them👍👍👍
Another great video by Alderic. Hope you can add Penang Place at Suntec to your list. It's a wet kind of hokkien mee, and one of the most unique hokkien mee I have tried. They use a chewier kind of thick bee hoon, which adds a wonderful texture to the noodles. They also provide a spicier chili, so be sure to mix that in. They don't use pork or lard, but they still manage to bring out a flavor that doesn't lose to other hokkien mee stalls like yong heng (another one of my favs). The only downside is that it is on the pricier side being located in a mall and all, but I feel it is worth it :)
that pewpewpew edit was glorious. Top tier content
You just earned yourself a VIP serving the next time you visit the stall.
haha uncle probably won't even remember.
This is good content. Good verdict by saying the hits and miss. Continue posting good reviews💯💯
The way you describe the food legit makes me wanna go try it out bro. hahahahaha! Maybe for your next series you can consider sg's best bak chor mee?
Can U find the best bbq chicken wings in singapore? I love the charcoal bbq chicken wings
Pew pew pew haha good one.. im your fan now, keep it up😂❤
Alderic should give the orthodox chopstick holding method a try too
Hi Alderic been loving your series so far. If you’re still taking recommendations, please consider visiting the halal-certified Newton 51 at Newton Food Centre - this is popular amongst the lunch crowd there, and I am trying to get to the bottom of how one should even begin to assess their take on the dish. Only if you’re in the area!
Can I ask, is there a reason why you dont squeeze the lime over the noodles to eat? Is it just personal preference?
For me personally, the lime just helps to alleviate some of that intense flavours and it is a very good contrasting flavour to what is already a super delicious plate of hokkien mee. Solid ep, time to get some hokkien mee myself too.
I personally love the lime but it hides many details. I'm leaving the lime out for this series so that I can detect and talk more about the noodles.
I have tried this, its alittle too salty for me. I still prefer the Tian Tian Lai at Toa Payoh. The long waiting time is a testament of how good it is.
Agreed with you. Very overrated but their chili is good.
Great video. Looking forward to your new series 😊
This is 1 of my 2 favourites, the other is Come Daily Fried Hokkien Mee at Toa Payoh Lor 1
I have a suggestion there is one at lorong 8 toa payoh that is very famous and one at the Redhill abc hawker center
Great video as always, super liked!
Hi Alderic, went to the stall today but i think the shop shifted to another place. Everything was empty 😅
They moved to kovan hawker last lane corner stall. Uncle retire already
you should try Bedok Corner Hokkien Prawn Mee. 打包 more nicer!
One pet peeve I have with many stalls is that they reduce the amount of yellow noodles over the years until it's more like hokkien bee hoon rather than mee. I mean, is the yellow noodles so much more expensive over the beehoon? Totally change the taste and texture.
There’s saying dabao will taste better. Probably you can try give a hit?
You are a true food assessor.
Go go Alderic! Nice video!
My favourite Hokkien Mee since childhood. 3 NOODLES.
At first glance, the dry black version looks like those from the economic beehoon stall. Will prefer the wet version..
i first time tried it, i feel cmi lei. first miss is, its cooked in batch. so when I ordered it, it's been sitting for a while. and I didn't ask for dry one, it comes quite wet. maybe should ask for dry one.
WOOO LETS FUCKIN GOOOOOOOO🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
the dry version looks nice
Really look delicious, must try, 😄
He didn't bribe you. You should have just gone for the wet version as that is their original. Kudos to the chef for having initiative.
that attempted bribery LOL
Wow,the stallholder is so nice!
Aiyo! Why u never ask them for lard! They normally give when u ask and it gets even better!
didn't know hokkien mee can bring back childhood images of Nokia 3310 ...
I didn't know either.
Shifted into kovan food centre #01-66 first day today
Not worth. The hokkien mee like morning those char beehoon type ,not nice.... IMO
The best hokkien mee is at bedok interchange hawker centre before the big renovation... but were closed many years ago .... managed by a couple....
Now only one hokkien mee stall in bedok interchange hawker centre... But is not my favourite...
I had taken my hokkien mee at Changi road for 30year .Now, I can't find any best one... after my favourite one re tired
No pork lard. How is that not a miss?
what about the chillis?
Try tian tian lai hokkien mee! It is my favourite hokkien mee for a long time and the standard is still there
My fav
Wet: Tiong Bahru Market
Dry: Circuit Road Market & Army Market Basement
Ayyyyy, what to do?! HAHAHA
why never squeeze the lime
Wet version is the original olden hokkien mee
Personally, this Hokkien mee outshines the rest I've had tried.
If they see you filming and will review their noodles they will just add 1.5x more broth to make it taste better. At least thats what I'd do if I am the chef.
I think this uncle has enough pride in his food to make sure that it comes out perfect every single time. he did however, arrange my prawns and sotong in the 2nd plate to make it look better haha
FINALLYYY
Yes!!! MY HOOOD
could be a bit wetter 😉😉
This is my favourite, 2nd is chomp chomp... but the standard for both has dropped..
Haha.. the stall already closed down..
mans clouted enough to get free hokkien mee, 1 step closer to that michelin fried chicken
yes sirrr.
💜👍💜👍👍
Pew pew pew pew… pew pew pew pew pew pew pew…. 😂
Bro I love your videos, but the way you hold your chopsticks trigger my OCD.
Eh wth the hokkien mee so good until it does not need the lime n chilli...
謝謝!
thank you kind sir.
😂😂😂
Next time trust the seller more than other eaters feedback
I will always trust the eaters!
Bro not to diss you, but I think you need to learn how to use a chopsticks properly first. Swee Guan Lorong 29 is my fav btw
It doesn't even look appetizing.
The whole plate looks messy.
idk who simon is but never knew he owned a road
First
alderic, just being pedantic here, wok is written as 镬 not 锅. great video as always
thank you! oh do elaborate, I see it as 锅 all over the internet.
