    Sometimes I switched my focus to the intention of whishing myself (and my friend) happiness. At times it worked better than the memory.
    Maybe it's a personal preference of mine (to whomever reads this) that helps someone too, to at times share your focus with that intention when the state starts to weaken.

      Sounds like it would work. Smile more when it weakens and feel the smile, as well.

      @@davidjohnson8218 Ok, I will take note of your observations.
      Desires that helped me maintain interesting states were worded along the lines of: "I wish to be happy. I wish to be calm. I wish to be still. I wish to change. I wish to learn the process of recognizing, releasing and relaxing. I forgive my mistakes."
      Of course the meditator can alter the phrase to their preference, but many of those rewritten wishes brought me greater concentration because I felt the intention behind them was clearer and of higher intensity.

      @@gabrielrock5856 Steer your wishes to happy/ lovingkindness feeling. Definitely not forigveness during lovingkindness meditation. We are trying to wish a loving caring feeling that we radiate to all beings. And then start noticing this feeling more then the beings as it gets stronger- then just nudge it along with a smile and a phrase when needed. But only when need to keep it going -otherwise just sink into it. There are other guided meditations that you might check out too!

    • @gabrielrock5856
      @gabrielrock5856 2 роки тому

      @@davidjohnson8218 Oh, all right. I'll set the forgiveness wish apart from the others. It's because your mental state may change too much, isn't it? Even if it's still a good state (thankfully), I guess you could impair development during the loving kindness meditation.
      Okay, I'll only repeat the phrases/intention once the feeling starts to drop.
      By the way, could you point me out to the other guided meditations this channel has?

    Is it better to boost the metta feeling with phrases “may you be...” or “may he be..” when doing the spiritual friend? You used, so I guess either. Any suggestion?

    Western culture has a serious issue of trying to erase sexuality from existence and that's mostly due to a dominant religion I won't speak directly of; you probably know which one is. I see americans constantly suffering because of what they've been taught. Europeans and south americans as well. Sexuality cannot be taken away from the world, it's a natural aspect of human existence. You either make it more subtle, generous, open-minded, happy and non-possessive (detached people and/or wise lay followers) or you abstain from it entirely (monks or lay followers adopting the extended eight precepts).
    Rejecting sexuality increases the frequency of abuse, rape, anguish, guilt, suffering and desire that leads to compulsion. These results are experienced and caused by men and women both, so don't fool yourself with the fallacy of a better or worse gender.
    Common phrases most of us said to ourselves include: "This good feeling is bad and wrong!", "This is taboo! I can't love this person!", "I can't do that before marriage, it's prohibited and my mind is telling me so!", "Oh, my relationship has to last forever!", "Is he/she interested in someone else? What about me?! I demand them to be faithful and I hate divorce as well!"
    Seriously, what a mass of lunacy.
    I hope this little analysis sheds light on this issue we always tried to ignore and supress. We live at a time where relationships all over the world are undergoing a serious crisis. Add sexuality to your medidation if its giving you trouble and you will experience progress.
