Absolutely masterful! From the massive opening chords, through the delicate into the majestic. Gert's interpretation and technique is absolutely superb.
I discovered this talented young man from the Netherlands, Gert van Hoef, in just the past few days. I am extraordinarily impressed with his musicality-in addition to his amazing technical skills. I was extremely moved by the emotion he poured into this performance! I am so impressed at how he and his assistant, Jan de Rooij, are so tightly in sync throughout the performance. They obviously know-and anticipate-each other extremely well. I hope to see him in the United States someday! Wonderfully done, Gert!
my twin Jean and I from n.h. Sang Finlandia in Mason N.H. At a sunset service, everyone loved it. Gert, is you were there, we could have you play for us, but that was in 1957 ,.
In My book anyone that can play notes with both feet and both hands and read the notes and giving Jan orders and talk at the same time is wonderful. This Man has it all. Not to say the person or persons that record this video did a good job letting us see and hear it all. Thank you....
The transcription is amazing in that it forces Gert to use all of his skills in playing all of the orchestral parts. He's a quite a good organist for a young man. I've heard a lot of his playing and find him to be an excellent organist. Beautifully played!
WOOOOW! Absolute Highlight and the best Interpretation I've ever heard. The Registration is absolute top. ((-: Vox humana :-)) That's the reason, the "hymn" is such touching. Bravissimo. Gert/Jan is the greatest organ-Team.
A wonderful interpretation of the very soulful "Finlandia". I have played quiet piece" BE Still My Soul". You are an artist for sure. A new great for our time.
Oh, my! I found this performance by accident and could not be happier! Until 10 minutes ago, my favorite rendition was an orchestral version with the Hymn done by a mixed chorus singing in English. ("With ardent song, we greet the golden morning" - it was a Google search of that lyric that led me here). That was the 1st version I ever heard - when I was just beginning to fall in love with classical music, so many years ago (before these young men were born!) Since then I had heard other versions while trying fruitlessly to find a version like the one I remember from my teen years. Thus, I also know this as a piano piece - with and without chorus - and they were not as stirring to me as the orchestral version. I never imagined this as an organ work. But now... I'm fascinated. What a joy to watch and to hear! I nearly wept. I only wish I had l could read Dutch (I assume), so that I might understand the other comments. Thankfully, at least, I understand the language of Music! And thank you, Gert, you and this are amazing!
Lots of greetings from Oulu, Finland! Finlandia is very important for Finns. It's great that great talent like you, Gert, plays it so wonderfully. I hope you'll visit here in Finland some day, you are very warmly welcome. I also hope that your studies within organ goes well.
Opening with those big reeds is a master stroke for Gert's interpretation of one of the worlds most familiar pieces of organ music. I particularly love his building of the tempo and opening to the full organ. I can't praise this young man enough for the work he does and his willingness to share it with the world.
It's interesting you say "most familiar organ pieces" this magnificent rendition by Gert van Hoef, was my first Finlandia played with organ! Didn't know it was arranged for organ.
Better, by far, than the orchestral rendering. Also, I think these videos (and others which show the player) must surely do a great service to the cause of the pipe-organ, where the player is usually hidden from public view. This way, we see what is involved in the control of even a fairly modest-sized instrument. Congratulations, yet again, to Gert and Jan.
Gert can play fast without mistakes. That is all that matters. His friend Jan has the face of a loyal, dear friend. I am fortunate to have several like him.
Wonderful, MAGNIFIQUE ! Gut gespielen ! Nice piece of Sibelius, amazing to listen with nice mountains pictures( Scandinavians fjords, or Alpine Landscapes, and Alpine panoramas )
Gert- Beautiful use of dynamics, articulation, tempo and registration changes. One of the most enjoyable and moving realizations of this piece. Whose arrangement is this?
Nicely done Gert. . It is nice to see you expand your performances with transcriptions as well as hymns and secular literature for organ. How nice to see Jan with you. You two work together as one to put an a great performance. Best toy ou Gert.
Absolutely fantastic! You know, beginning of Finlandia descibes how waves of Baltic Sea hits the shores of Finland, comes in and goes away. And the poem about struggling for independence begins .. You should read the lyrics, too.
many years ago Leslie Suter played on the organ in the central hall in Coventry, he played Finlandia then Brahms lullaby he made that organ bawl its heart out, very touching
I second that Stephen. Well done and so expressive as it should be performed. Like the NEW SHOES and I am sure the old fudy duddies will be pleased. IMHO Shoes do not the organist make. But then again I do not know much only been a classical trained organist for over 50 years, Good luck in your studies.
I have always liked Sibelius ... i appreciated his melancholy spirit. He had something to say. Unfortunately many in Europe did not like this guys works, or him.
Indrukwekkend geniaal.
I must say, you have clean, polished shoes, unlike so many, whose shoes look as though they were dug from an alley dumpster! An absolutely thrilling rendition!!
Now that's more like it, Gert! All those hymns were putting me to sleep. Nothing like a good powerful orchestral piece to make the King of Instruments roar!
I have just recently picked up the second of Gerts CDs Reprise, finlandia is one of the tracks on it, at about 3.20 on that recording it is well worth turning volume up as high as it can go, trust me, several comments on several of Gerts uploads are saying best in the world now, I Wont dispute that comment

you did a fabulous job young maestro. my favorite from Sibelius. BRAVO..
Absolutely masterful! From the massive opening chords, through the delicate into the majestic. Gert's interpretation and technique is absolutely superb.
"Finlandia" is one of my very favorite pieces. I first heard this when I was four years old. Thank you so much for the WONDERFUL performance!
Gert, You makke every piece you play new and refreshing. You just play masterfully and the very best. Thank you
I've never watched an organist who is such a superb player and feels the music as he does! Bravo! a 1000 times over!
One of my favorites. Brings tears to my eyes with out fail, and I'm not from Finland.

Amen to all you said
LListen to Bert many times, love his performances.
When Gert plays the piano or organ your soul is transported toward the DIVINE. What talent!!!
I bow down to thee in dust. Fantastic. Wonderful playing Gert.
my twin Jean and I from n.h. Sang Finlandia in Mason N.H. At a sunset service, everyone loved it. Gert, is you were there, we could have you play for us, but that was in 1957 ,.
Very expressive and a great interpretation of this classic.
Ohhh! That was hugely overstellar performance with so much feeling that it moved me!! Thank you Gert for performing it for us all to hear!!!
Hienosti soitettu! Kiitos.
In My book anyone that can play notes with both feet and both hands and read the notes and giving Jan orders and talk at the same time is wonderful. This Man has it all. Not to say the person or persons that record this video did a good job letting us see and hear it all. Thank you....
Organists are not wired the same as the rest of us for the reasons you stated above. Gert got his motherboard from NASA.....a very special guy.
Jim Martin you could say he's like Max Verstappen .... A great talent with another great instrument 😉
Beautiful! Thank you both!
From Canada, What a wonderful Organist, a pleasure to listen too.
Excellent and inspiring. This is how the song should sound!
This is a magnificent performance of Finlandia.
I agree 100% with what you say Gregory! I found this video now by chance.........and think this young man is incredibly talented!
An incredible performance Thank you and God Bless !
My father introduced me to Sibelius music but this genius takes it to different level
The transcription is amazing in that it forces Gert to use all of his skills in playing all of the orchestral parts. He's a quite a good organist for a young man. I've heard a lot of his playing and find him to be an excellent organist. Beautifully played!
This music clearly means so much to him. What a brilliant performance, hats off!
Gert is such a committed musician - he 'lives' the work with the emotional intensity it requires. This is beautiful and very moving.
Ludwig van Beethoven: "To play a wrong note is insignificant. To play without passion is inexcusable". THIS is played with passion!
And - I should add - IF there was a "wrong note", I did not detect it.
Gert's playing is of the highest quality.
Branchporter Amen to that
I simply can't get enough of this young chap's music. Spellbinding. E. Power Biggs and Virgil Fox combined were never this good. IMO
As an organist and an instructor part time,, BEAUTIFUL!!! BRAVO!!
Very good, Finlandia is the best piece of the Jean Sibelius.
Greetings from Helsinki
Vergetta666 listen to "Tapiola"...even better...
Perfect, dankzij Maestro!
Perfect, geweldig! Dank je Gert.
hThis is one of my favorite pieces of music wonderfully played.
What a joy for us to see and hear but what a great privilege and joy for Gert's friend Jan who shows such devotion with his part.
Wow, breathtaking!
WOOOOW! Absolute Highlight and the best Interpretation I've ever heard.
The Registration is absolute top.
((-: Vox humana :-)) That's the reason, the "hymn" is such touching.
Bravissimo.

Great performance. I enjoyed it tremendously. Kudos to you and your assistant.
+VikinginMaine the trust, cooperation, respect, and love between Gert and Jan is amazing to behold.
Yes, and the proof is in the music. Very relaxing and calming. Thank you for your reply.

Quite the skillful tour de force! The entrance of the chorale is breathtakingly sublime! Thank you!

BRAVO GERT!!! I think that Finland would be ecstatic to claim you as one of their own...Greetings from the USA...

Absolutely fantastic! You know, beginning of Finlandia descibes how waves of Baltic Sea hits the shores of Finland, comes in and goes away. And the poem about struggling for independence begins .. You should read the lyrics, too.
I remember playing this in middle school. Thanks for bringing Finlandia back to my mind.
Jean Sibelius would have loved this wonderful performance 👏👏👏
Gert, knock fire out of that Organ buddy... Wonderful playing for sure... Love the way you put Jan to work. LOL...
It is beautiful, Gert. Keep learning, growing in skills. What an incredible performer you will be. You future is going to be glorious.
Splendid a performance, Maestro van Hoef..
AMAZING !!!
Outstanding Bravo

I agree with Dan Abbott, it is one of the better transcriptions that I have heard for a long time
I would say that it was perfect! Wellcome to Finland to play it here!

I must say, you have clean, polished shoes, unlike so many, whose shoes look as though they were dug from an alley dumpster! An absolutely thrilling rendition!!
Thanks Gert and Jan.
Danke!
astounding !!
Cool! 12 points from Finland. ;)
Wonderful playing really looking foreward to hearing you play live at stoke
Absolutely fantastic Finlandia is one of my favourites especially with organ and concerto orchestra I play this on my tremolo mouth organ

Beautifull and quite accurate.
