Have have been watching your channel for a little while, now starting to go back through some of the videos I missed before I started watching. Another beautiful loco
I would recommend with that locomotive you run 4 to 5 medium-sized passenger cars and 8 to 10 Freight cars that's its comfort zone any more cars and it will struggle
Loving the demo videos SMT! By the way, as you saw when you watched my review video, there are alternate whistles if you so choose to change them, although I have no idea whether DCC programming is possible with an EZ Command. Also, love the LV boxcar!
These are truly fun little engines, if you are in to changing cv values. There are a couple whistle and bell options, and you can set the decoder up to automatically put on the bell and cylinder cocks when the engine starts moving for more realistic operation! Ten of those bigger cars would be a stretch for this little guy, maybe 7 is the magic number for it. I also highly recommend adding momentum. Nothing is better than a steamer slowly getting up to speed and coasting to a stop. I believe the sound decoder will also modify the sound slightly so it makes more of a coasting sound, it is a stripped down soundtraxx decoder.
Hi good review video which I enjoyed watching. I have two of these 2-6-0 Moguls in Southern and PRR Liveries and they will cope happily with 6 40 foot box cars plus caboose or 4 mantua heavyweight wooden 1890 era coaches. I have run mine a lot and so far they have reliable and great fun.👍😃
You're so lucky I have a Bachmann mogul too in Santa Fe black I am planning on getting a Grand Valley layout Of my own it will be called the Santa Fe Pacific railroad in honor of Santa Fe's predecessor which ran through Williams Arizona
2-6-0 were built in the 1906 for 1909 they were use for a freight hauling in they were meant for Pincher service and shunting and the sound they are from a Elko engine
I used to have a bachmann 4-6-0 with sound, it ran like a tank. Though Athearn Genesis with their Steam engines are just priced higher, have great detail, and last much longer.
Adding another once into the boiler if you can find room would help with pulling traction. The only B'man steamer I have is thier N scale 2--8-4 Berkshire and it runs reliably.
SMT - The 2-6-0 got the name " Mogul " because it dwarfed the previous locomotives like the American 4-4-0. I am under the impression that they were intended for road freight service. The black exterior surface of the boiler may be a covering called the " boiler jacket " & it covers the riveted boiler. Perhaps you should find your track cleaner car & run it around the layout? You may have built-up oil on the railheads.
Keep in mind that train lengths were much shorter in the days when these locomotives roamed the rails; A 4-8-2 or 4-8-4 locomotive will pull more cars if that’s what interests you. You can also see if the locomotive comes with traction tires. These 4-6-0 and similar locomotives are roughly equivalent to a road switcher, like an Alco RS11, while a 4-8-4 is closer to an SD40/45. Likewise, a 4-6-6-4 or 4-8-8-4 is more like a DDA40X, or two modern GE/EMD units, such as a ES44AC or SD90MAC, while an 0-4-0 to 0-8-0 is a yard goat, similar to an Also S-4, or EMD SW900. They’re also found on short lines, or at larger industries such as a steel making plant, or a large grain elevator. HTH.
I picked up a couple of these over the last couple years - DC versions in CN and Green Bay Western paint. They were fantastic deals as DC-only locos but between this review and SamsTrain's review of one of these I kind of feel like I'm missing out not having sound. I guess I can add it down the line if I want.
Hi Harrison your got yourself a nice little Engine. You should check if you maybe need some Traction Tires on this Engine because I think the Problems with Pulling those Waggons is not normal. Greetings from Bruno
Nice engine. One day I'll have a layout of substantial size. Till the its just a test track. I'll get a new board. 1st start with a roll out grass mat and some other minor buildings with little details to start.
Hello SMT. Amazing video! I'm from melbourne Australia and I have the chance to buy this locomotive, bit I only run DC. Does it work with the sound on DC? If not, is the decoder able to be programmed to run on dc? Cheers, Jordan
You are so lucky, I recently got a train lot and the locomotives don't have any sound, I know you don't have much experience with sound, but is this a bad thing and should I look for more HO scale trains with sound?
Well, I'm not SMT but perhaps I can answer this l for you. I always thought there was no need for sound. I thought all I was missing out on was horns and bells. And that is true, sort of. But then I got this 2-6-0 and everything changed. Now I want all my locos to have sound. So ultimately, there is nothing wrong with having soundless locos. The problem only really comes when shopping, because most locos now are DCC and Sound or no DCC. Do you use DCC? If you don't, save the money by buying silent locos with no DCC and your roster will grow more rapidly than someone who uses DCC. What it really comes down to is your budget and your personal preference. Remember, it doesn't matter what other people think you 'should' do. It's your railroad. You do what you want.
I've found sound is a pretty fun feature and I think everyone should at least try it but at the end of the day you have to decided which you're more happy with - 50 / 150 dollars extra in your pocket or a locomotive with a horn and a bell.
I really have to say thanks for both of you guys answers, I am working on improving my layouts and locomotives. I need as much information as possible because I am pretty new to the hobby. I really appreciate you people spending time helping model railroaders like me who are new to the hobby or haven't tried it in years. Thanks!
I have the same engine and it’s a good engine but just a little advice the engine can’t pull more than 3 to 4 cars on a grade without it struggling and I wouldn’t over stress the loco cause it might break
Lighten the cars up a bit, MRR clubs all have these so called weight standards but in these cases you can lighten cars a bit to be able to simulate this pulling real loads, course back when these trains were in use they didn't have very big consists for this very reason ;)
It depends on the pulling capacity on those steam locomotives probably used on local freights & or in yards to assemble other trains! Bachmann is so so. Nice engine otherwise..🙂
We have a Canadian national mogul 2-6-0 she in America and it runs on the Strasburg railroad in Pennsylvania
This one looks more like 91 stored at the Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad
number 11 from the evertt rail road in pa
@@Mizzinno 89 was built by Canadian Locomotive Company
Strasburg also has the only operations N&W M-Class and one of two operational Decapods.
gets some cool pullman coaches to pull behind it!
Have have been watching your channel for a little while, now starting to go back through some of the videos I missed before I started watching. Another beautiful loco
Basically just like the real thing it's meant to run on Short Line railroads
I would recommend with that locomotive you run 4 to 5 medium-sized passenger cars and 8 to 10 Freight cars that's its comfort zone any more cars and it will struggle
What about on steep grades
Or go full Strasburg and throw up to 8 passenger behind it
Loving the demo videos SMT!

I have a 4-4-0 steam loco and I god it 2013 and never greased it until 3 months ago and it still runs great same with a trolley
I’ve just bought the loco today for my birthday on February 8, as a early gift.

Just bought a 2-6-0 for my PRR themed layout and from the looks of your video I’m gonna enjoy it
Oh its a mogul i thought it was a cheap 0-6-0, you've struck gold Harrison. If only mu ihc mogul could run the same
That locomotive is based off of a Green Bay and Western 2-6-0 moguls built in 1924 by American locomotive company
Wow this was amazing, great footage and video nice work my friend 👏🏽👏🏽👀
I just got a Bachman 0-6-0 from a train show and it’s an oil burn, I haven’t tested it well but the seller said it would pull easily around 4-5 cars
I have one of these locos and am happy with it.
That is the most beautiful HO train i've ever seen.

Good review. Sounds great.
best locomotive review yet smt
You should do more strength tests on your model trains.
That Looks so good I want one for Ho And N Scale.
Freakin sweet Engine.
Thats a really nice loco you got there. Looks like weve encountered a grade, (train stops completely) seems to be struggling just a little
That Engine looks and sounds real good.I always wanted to know if Canadian National made a Steam Engine.they look good.
Nice. I love steam locomotives so much. They beat diesel hands down.
Cool train I have tow Bachmann train's but I have not got a dcc Bachmann train.
I read that it’s important to break in a loco without load for an hour in both directions.
0-5-0 pusher! Can you add weight in the boiler
Great video buddy
For more information I highly recommend you check out the episode railfan reviews on the Bachman 2-6-0 mogul

@@dwc8269 No problem. I always use the forum and I'm just passing it on.
+SMT Mainline 2-6-0 are not made for pulling 10 cars they only pulled about few cars.
Awesome!
How expensive was this Loco and what gauge is this
I would pull 6x 40' (5 inch long) cars and a late 1940's caboose behind it.
Do they have that in N Scale?
I have the same engine and it’s a good engine but just a little advice the engine can’t pull more than 3 to 4 cars on a grade without it struggling and I wouldn’t over stress the loco cause it might break
very nice.. five car max limit.
I can hear fire in the firebox
Maybe the best performing locomotive you have. At least on par with your best Athearn.
Was surprised it didn't pull stronger. Well now you have a good reason/excuse to get another dcc streamer to make a double header. 😁
Lighten the cars up a bit, MRR clubs all have these so called weight standards but in these cases you can lighten cars a bit to be able to simulate this pulling real loads, course back when these trains were in use they didn't have very big consists for this very reason ;)
Do the BLI Locomotive
I have one in a Southern Railroad livery
Chuggachuggachugga chugga chugga chug
Function 7 dims the headlight/tailight
I have a Lakawana one. They are decent, but they can barley pull anything. U will need traction tires for thst one.
I guess it depends on your needs. I only want it to pull a four car excursion train so that's not too much, but with heavier loads it struggles.
HO Hobbyist if it’s for a excursion don’t get bachmann get something better
@@mratsfrailfan1894 already have it and am pleased with it.

I wonder how this locomotive is doing after 4 years
I have a Santa Fe version of this steam locomotive
Anyone know this engine is from strasburg
hey man I have the southern 2-6-0 number 7080
You should show the controller to next time
You should get a 4449 sound value
That is to much!
I had one for 6 years, hasn't run in months since it doesn't work anymore...

Ok
My 2-6-0 is also [pretty gutless also.
