i will stand by the opinion that the jumpscares in AW2 aren't cheap because they're actually indicative of important things: the boss in question either has been there, IS there/nearby, they're watching the playable character closely, or the presence in question is trying to actively influence the playable character (either by taking them over, making them hesitate, or driving them away)
I think it also kinda makes the players feel what Alan is feeling. (Spoilers) his headaches are almost paralyzing when the darkness is trying to posses him and we as the players experience that as well. It was set up by the first “jumpscare” with Nightingale when he was in the process of being Taken. That was pretty much the first clue that Wake was Scratch
I believe that jumpscares alone often come across as cheap in most horror. However, when you successfully leave the audience unsettled and manage to evoke genuine anxiety, it becomes acceptable.
@@HotCupaJo exactly. There are proper ways to do jumpscares--mike Flanagan also does them really well-- but most directors overuse and MISuse them and they've gotten a bad reputation because of inexpert and lazy utilization
Right, at least in this case there's a diagetic reason for it to be like that, you're feeling the presence of something nearby and it's something violent. It's probably similar to what Alice dealt with when Alan wanders into Parliament Tower.
Apparently New Game + adds a TON more to the game (Remedy says “Alternative Narrative). The mode is even called “The Final Draft” lol it’s basically AW3 set in AW2. Dunno if they’ll have an achievement list for it tho, but with how big it is they should.
Hopefully it's as big as we really hope it is, they also put out a tweet on the first of this month teasing that it might be coming out sometime this month, it's literally captioned with 'new month, new game... plus?'
@Julianoz224 yup, pretty disappointed in that aspect, but when it comes down to it, I had a feeling it wasn't gonna be this big expansive thing, mainly because of how quick it came out.

Super surprised how easy the platinum was. Horror games usually have pretty hard platinums with trophies for beating the game under 4 hours or with only pistols and/or knives. This one was real easy.
Okay I know it's been a couple of months, but here's an explanation regarding the Dark Place, the Summoning, and the Dark Presence. Of course, this won't be short. *I will start by clarifying how the timeline of events works here.* Basically, the Dark Place exists outside of the time continuum - that's why Alan's side of the story was happening at the same time as Saga's, even tho we freed him from the Dark Place at the very beginning of the game. However, this is also why at the end of Control's AWE we see a signal message, that informs FBC about a massive paranormal interference in Bright Falls - only that interference was actually the events of AW2, happening in 2023 (4 years after the events of Control). Basically because the Dark Place exists outside of time, it can connect itself to any point on our timeline - and because Alan and Scratch were rewritting the story all the time, sabotaging each other even, they basically created a reality distortion so strong, that FBC picked it up 4 years prior to its actual occurance. *Now about the Summoning.* So the whole summoning did actually work - only not as Saga expected. Basically, instead of bringing Alan back into the real world in our current moment, the Summoning dropped him at the beach back at the start of Saga's story. That's because Alan was already in that current moment - just possesed by the Dark Presence. That's why, when Alex is taken over, you are now playing as Alan in the real world (well before Alex-Scratch does his thing). It's basically a paradox - the reason Alan is washed up on the beach at the start of the game, is because of what Saga does at the very end of the game. *Now regarding the Dark Presence and Scratch.* The Dark Presence is the evil paranormal force that dwells within the Dark Place and wants to get out in order to take over the real world. It's a macguffin - there's not much to it. Now Scratch on the other hand - he's basically a version of Alan (and Casey) that is controlled by the Dark Presence. So when Alan got out at the start of the game, it was really him - the Dark Presence was just also hiding inside him, without his knowledge. It simply decided to reveal itself the moment it understood its cover is blown and there is no holding back anymore.

love your videos, bro! I'd like to recommend platinuming the Dark Souls trilogy (Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, and Dark Souls III). legit one of the hardest things I've ever done in gaming.
I heard dmc 4 is the hardest out of the rest. 2 might be a challenge considering how boring it was. Dmc 1 100% wasn’t so bad there was just one achievement where you had to discover every enemy type and that was very annoying a lot of level reloading. 3 i’ve sadly never played and 5 was super challenging but not impossible!
i love watching you get jumpscared you should platinum more horror games etc. maybe do blair witch cause it got some mind fuck moments etc and could be fun for you to deep dive it
This is trippy as fuck to me. My name’s Dylan too and I’ve never had the UA-camr on my screen saying my name before. It feels like he’s talking to me 😂
Quantum break is not part of the remedy shared universe, there's just some Easter eggs here and there, but the overall plot is not tied to Alan Wake, that's why it feels convoluted, because the plots don't tie in
So on your comment about it being Scratch the whole time, it was indeed Alan who she found, but the darkness was hiding inside of him all along, and at the moment in jail Scratch came out
lol I somehow managed to get 66 of the 67 achievements on my first playthrough, I wasn't even trying that much, sure I wasnt just cheesing my way through but I had it as an after thought. the only one I missed was shooting a cardboard cutout in coffeworld
You can buy it but you won’t understand anything about other plots if you haven’t played their games (FBC, Tim Breaker, Ahti, Jessie, Max Payne). The game briefly tells you about them, but the thing is that these info is crucial, so the whole game you’ll be wandering “what is that dude on the book? Who is that red haired girl? Who is this old Finnish man that appears and tells us stuff no ordinary person should know” and then you’ll reach the end of the game. The main reason that I don’t recommend it is because of the ending. Because (SPOILERS!) we get to the same point like in the beginning of the first game. Our wife is AGAIN trapped in the Dark Place and Alan has to find a way to save her… but the main thing is that none of the characters change. You want to know more about Saga Anderson? You’ll know nothing about her, you are always going to hear about her “book” version. From the beginning of the game Saga is a determined cop who wants to solve the case… and in the end she stays the same. Of course, her whole family is in danger, but it doesn’t affect her personality whatsoever, only giving us phrases like “I have to make Alan rewrite the story so my family survives”. BUT my main disappointment is Alan Wake. Gosh, he would have been such a cool character, but due to the “story” he becomes a punching bag that can’t do anything without Saga. Why the hell did he create FBC if they didn’t do ANYTHING in the endgame? (except Ahti who is a paranormal being). Why the hell Alan writes like a 12 year old teenager? You can say “But we got an explanation in Control!”. Yeah, sure, but how does a work that is literally “Saga looked at the witch. She brought a heart. To kill the monster. Save herself. Stop him” is considered to be a MASTERPIECE? I can understand the old gods of Asgard, but how the fuck does a fanfic named “initiation” and “return” suddenly become a TRUE PIECE OF ART? Alan doesn’t have the clicker, so it is much harder to manoeuvre his way through. You know what the game does say to us? “The Dark Place just follows the script”. So if the Dark Place only targets talented people who make masterpieces, it is okay for it to follow a script of a “teenager writing”? This game has a lot more problems and I personally consider it bad, the ending butchered the whole game. I’d recommend playing Control because the characters in THAT story at least reflex on their actions and they change in the course of the game.
Even as a Souls vet with the Plat for Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, I haven't got the plat for any Dark Souls game. Feels too tedious and too many things you can miss each playthrough.
