How to dye your hair with Kool-Aid

- Come find out how I dye my hair vibrant red with Kool-Aid!
Things and Stuff:
Conditioner
A microwaveable cup
An unloved spoon
Gloves
5 Packets of Kool-Aid in your desired color
Plastic sammich bags
Hair ties/rubber bands
Instructions:
1) Put 2 spoons of conditioner in the cup and microwave for about 20 seconds. Mix in the Kool-aid until it dissolves.
2) Once it cools, add conditioner until you have the amount you need.
3) Separate your hair into manageable sections and add the goo to your hair. Place the goo filled hair into bags and wrap hair ties/rubber bands around the ends.
4) Leave it in your hair for 8 hours. Yes, 8 hours. I usually just sleep with the awkward bags attached to my head.
5) In the morning, rinse your hair until the water runs clear, but don't use shampoo.
Once it dries, you should have extra awesome hair. Enjoy life.

omg this seems so much better than dye for many reasons
1. its cheap
2. it is a REALLY good color
3. it doesnt kill your hair
4. it doesnt smell like chemicals
5. 8 hours is actually great because you know that the "dye" will most likely work

So here's my kool aid story: I dyed it in August of 2013 (7th grade) and it stayed in up till 9th grade. I get my hair done at least once every month so that tells you how strong this stuff is. The beauticians thought I did it with actual hair dye when I told them how long it stayed! It could be because my hair is porous, but I don't know if my hair is porous. I did it several times in August, using both the boil method and the paste method and they both worked great. I would definitely recommend if you want a substitute for box dyes. **My word of advice is to wash your hair before you do it (unless your using extensions) then keep it on over night (keeping it on over night works even if your doing the boil method) to ensure you get maximum color.**. I have black hair and It came out a dark cherry/blood red color that looked beautiful in the sunlight.

@@Hi-fg1dx koolaid isn't a thing here, so obviously I can't answer that well. But usually that kind of stuff depends on your hair health, how often and aggressive you wash, the colour you use, and wether you've bleached your hair. And of course even if that's all the same it still differs person to person.
Fun fact: If you add the word “aggressively” before any action, it makes it at least 4.2 times more hilarious!

Edit: Five months later and I have a barely noticeable green tinge in my hair. I used purple Koolaid with blue and red food coloring (I wanted to modify the color) and got dark green ish blue. It wasn't what I was hoping for, but it was still pretty. I'll have to try this again, either with more Koolaid or just straight food coloring. This method lasted longer than I expected.

I dyed my hair with Kool-Aid exactly a year ago and it’s still in my hair, the way I did it is I boiled the Kool-Aid with water, put it in cups and then sat with my hair in it for 30 minutes

This is the method I did. *FYI I have dark'ish brown hair!*💁🏽

First I bought 4 packets of sugar free look aid (sugar kind will make your hair sticky!!). Then I took two bowls/cups and pored boiling hot water into each bowl, then added 2 packets of kool aid to the water in the bowls. I tied my hair into two low pigtails and inserted my hair in the mixture for 20-30 mins. The more time your hair is left in, the more intensity it will become.
It came out VERY vibrant on my hair surprisingly! 🙆🏻👍🏻 hope u like your new hair!!!
P.S. RED KOOL AID SHOWS UP BEST ON BROWN/DARK HAIR.

i rinsed it with COLD water and then DO NOT wash your hair for at least 2 days because the color needs time to stick to your hair. :)

You don't necessarily have to bleach or lighten dark hair first with this method. That is precisely why so many people choose the Koolaid/Jello/ food colouring route so they don't have to damage their hair with bleach lol! There's lots of UA-cam tutorials showing great results even on black hair with no bleach, lighteners or developers used.

Yes!! I tried it blue during summer time (my hair is naturally blonde) and it worked (of course my weird self tasted my own hair!!) then it tasted more like sour candy than Kool-Aid cause the mixture needs to be more saturated in water but other than that, it tastes good!! (for the first few days that you have the "dye" it)

Crafty Coutour sorry for the late response but it last until you cut it. It lasted around 2 years before I decided to cut it.

I die my hair kool-aid and i take less time and do it different. It stays in for awhile to. (DONT KNOW IF IT WORKS ON REALLY DARK HAIR, I HAVE LIKE BROWNISH/BLONDISH/DIRTY BLINDE HAIR SOOO. Anyway basically just boil a pot of water and when it starts bubbling add the kool-aid packets, doesnt marter how many. Mix it and dip you hair in it. Depending on how dark you hair is the longer you will have to sit with your hair in the mix. If u have blonde/light hair -20min, I normally do 30-40 min. Take your hair out and blowdry it and be done, the next day take a shower and you'll be done.
Also sometimes whatever color I pick after taking a couple showers it turns red but it looks cool so... 👌

Stomach acid is one of the strongest acids in the world. Your throat is also quite resilient. As long as you aren't drinking like, bleach or paint thinner, you'll be fine, lol.

I'm thinking about dying my hair in purple streaks for a Nymphadora Tonks costume but I don't want the color to last that long. Will the color fade quicker if I leave the Kool-Aid in for 4 hours and wash my hair afterward?
The longer you leave the dye mix, the longer your hair stays. I did this before with my sister and we have similar hair color and type (kinda oily) and her's stayed on longer than mine and her's lasted for about a fourth of a school year. Mine lasted for 15 minutes (it probably doesn't help that I washed it out on purpose). Hope this helps!

This may seem crazy but my 6 year old wanted to dye her hair purple and blue. I tried my best. The blue half was perfect but I cannot get the purple to work. The craziest part...her name is Echo as well. Thanks for the tutorial. I don't think she can take 8 hours with it in but hot conditioner instead of hot water might help.
When I'm done dying my hair with Kool-Aid and I did everything else right can I take a shower as normally will it take out the Kool-Aid dye..
When you first dye your hair, you can only rinse it out (like she says in the vid). Then when you need to wash your hair you can as you normally would but it will fade because it's not real hairdye.

Well that is true. Even more true on a person like me who leaves knots in their hair, and had very very very very very very very very thick hair. Hair ties...well they are my best friend. I know hair ties better than my best friend I met in Pre-K (and I still know her)..I have had my hair in a ponytail forever. I just hate having my hair down, I like the way the hair ties feel on my head... Like i feel that tight circle in the back of my head. Sorry if I am weird I just have been using ponytails since my hair was long enough to use them. :D I sleep with them in. Sometimes I don't wanna take them out when i have to take a shower. I HAVE A STRONG BOND WITH HAIR TIES. Rubber bands..Well my mom never put them in my hair... She said..It rips your hair out. I tried it..IT DID..I was never the same. Other instructions I've seen said you can wash normally the next day. That's worked for me.
