    The Arai also vents from the back of the neck. Not just the two small vents on the shell.

      Thanks for the addition! That is correct, almost all Arai helmets also include exhausts underneath the neck in addition to any other air outlets elsewhere on the helmet. Thanks for the comment!

    Why wouldn’t you simply test both helmets on the same day?

  • @saddle8bag

    I might have to pick up a Glamster. I sit behind a windshield so noise isn't a big deal. The weight of an open face makes it pretty appealing. I'll have to give it a fit to see how much worse it is compared to my other Shoeis first though.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 роки тому

      We were also surprised by how light the helmet itself was. It's definitely a good idea to compare though, since we did find that there was some difference in terms of how comfortable the helmet was compared to other Shoeis.
      Did any of the other results from the road test stand out to you?

  • @BrandonK80

    Is there a reason why these helmets aren't being release in the US? Also I've seen the Arai called the Rapide in other videos. Is this just because it's in a different market? Lastly are there other models that these manufacturers have in the US that you would say are comparable fit wise so I can try those on to see how these would fit?

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 роки тому +1

      At the moment, we're not really sure why they're haven't been rolled out in the US yet. Sometimes the grounds for this can be to do with different certification requirements, but sometimes there are other reasons. That's correct, the Neo Rapide is the Concept-X designed for different markets. You may find the Arai Renegade-V / Defiant-X will have a similar fit to the Concept-X if you wanted to try it out, it should be something around an intermediate oval

    seems like the temperature results could be affected by the arai helmet tested being black in color and the shoei helmet being white

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  3 роки тому

      Though color can play a small role in temperature, we have not found this to be significant during our helmet road tests. We have also tested a number of other black helmet that were much cooler than the Concept-X (such as the Arai Tour X4 or AGV X3000), and we have tested several white helmets that came in hotter than the Glamster (such as the Shoei Hornet ADV).

    Wait wtf, shouldnt they be the same color? Wouldn't a black helmet and a white helmet cause different results in temperature?

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 роки тому

      Ideally, the two helmets would be the same color. However, as we've continued testing out helmets we've found that this difference is usually very small since the ventilation usually compensates for this. For example, even when we've tested black helmets like the AGV Sportmodular in the height of summer it still managed a great ventilation result.
      Given how big the ventilation difference was on the Concept-X, it's main downfall was the lack of ventilation rather than the color. Thanks for the question!
      What do you think of the two helmets?

    • @Bingomandingo
      @Bingomandingo 4 роки тому +1

      @@Championhelmets hmmm... well that's good to know. I think they both look amazing. Arai apparently being track ready is interesting because I'm an aggressive rider, however the weight and price of the glamster just makes it hard to pass up for simple street riding.

      @@Bingomandingo Whatever downfalls in performance the two may have, they definitely both look incredible.
      According to Shoei, the CPB-1 Glamster visors should be coming out around the end of August. However, depending on how things go, there's a chance they may still come out later

    How is the ventilation of rapide neo compare to the other arai helmet? it looks like rapide neo has less ventilation channels.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the question! The two closest fair comparisons that we've road tested are the Profile-V and the Renegade-V. On our Profile-V road test we found it ventilated as poorly as the Neo Rapide / Concept-X. However, when we road tested the Renegade-V we found it ventilated substantially better (earning 4 stars).
      What do you think of the Concept-X?

    • @pitashen
      @pitashen 4 роки тому +1

      @@Championhelmets Thank you for the reply. I am surprised that profile-v performs about the level of concept-x. I love the style of concept-x, but I am a bit on the fence due to the ventilation. Where I live can be humid and hot.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 роки тому +1

      If you're between the Concept-X and the Profile-V, then the Profile-V would still be the better option. Since the helmets has more vents, it will still offer more options in where you want airflow, and it also performs better in other areas as well such as comfort and noise.

    Arai has just released the updated XE 3 years later and yet neither of these helmets are available in the USA yet. I just don’t understand why they let the Bell Bullit have majority share in sales. Shame as I love the look but every review says they are super loud at highway speeds which keeps me from buying one. Sad coming from a great company like Bell they would release such a poor performing helmet.

      @Championhelmets  4 роки тому

  • @RandomGRK
    @RandomGRK 4 роки тому

    Took my Glamster out for its first ride yesterday on my naked. Coming from a Shoe RF1200 I can say the Glamster is extremely loud. Wind rushes up just under the ears. For short city rides with my RF1200 I never needed ear plugs but with the Glamster I definitely will. A little disappointed. On the other hand, it’s extremely comfortable. Even more comfy than my 1200.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 роки тому

      It's a shame about the noise, though it does make sense considering retro helmets often don't quite perform to the same level as something like a sport-touring helmet. That being said, we had raised our hopes a bit with the Shoei Glamster. Nonetheless, thanks for letting us know how you found the helmet, we appreciate it!
      How have you found the Glamster for ventilation?

    • @RandomGRK
      @RandomGRK 4 роки тому

      @@Championhelmets Ventilation has been much better than the RF1200, but I assume that's because of the all the wind rushing up into the ears and not necessarily the vents themselves. The other thing I forgot to mention is the visor, it doesn't click into multiple positions like the RF1200. It basically has closed, middle, open. When "closed" but not locked, there is some air that gets in that helps ventilation. All in all, they really could have just used the same system as the CWR-1 but for some strange reason they didnt .

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 роки тому +1

      That's a fair assumption. It's a pity that Shoei and even Arai went slightly too retro in their helmet designs in several areas, especially the visor, that would not have affected the overall look very much. Hopefully, next time we'll get a helmet with a bit more of a focus on ease of use since Shoei have already ticked the ventilation box. Thanks for the reply!

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  3 роки тому +1

      Because of the Concept-X's greater noise level (106dB) and weaker ventilation (+7) degrees, it earns 2 stars less than the Shoei in both categories. We were hoping for a stronger showing, but this was what our data was showing.
      Thanks for the comment!
      What are your thoughts on the two helmets?

  • @kierenmoore3236
    @kierenmoore3236 4 роки тому +1

    Arai missed an opportunity here ... They stuffed this up by trying to appeal to too many audiences; the retro/cafe thing is all about appearances (basic safety standards are assumed/just expected), and they missed that mark ...

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 роки тому +1

      Once of the major areas we'd hoped the Concept-X would have performed better in was either ventilation or noise isolation, since they're usually inversely related. Either way, we still have a ways to go before we get a retro helmet with the features/performance to match the looks

    • @kierenmoore3236
      @kierenmoore3236 4 роки тому +1

      Champion Helmets - I think it would need to be noise isolation ... vents tend to ruin the retro look (for obvious reasons - they didn’t used to have them!!) , imho ... which of course sucks, because one can always wear earplugs, but one does not always want to have one’s visor open 🤦🏻‍♂️ ... Perhaps impracticality is just inextricably linked with/baked into ‘the authentic retro look’ ... ? 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 роки тому

      That does seem to be part of the issue. Though AGV still managed to deal with it fairly well with the X3000, so it is possible to build a retro helmet that ticks at least some of the boxes.
      Thanks for the comment!
