as good as arai are with there impeccable safety, for me Shoei's fit has always been better, and lasted longer, with all year round riding, further more, i walked away from a crash that i shouldn't have survived from with a shoei. to me that is the reason i will always choice them thank you Shoei for saving my life,
14:20 DOT covers just the basics in terms of safety while ECE 22.05/06 is a proper safety homologation, which should be, in my opinion, the minimum required internationally. Arai even considers ECE 22.06 as a weak homologation so I would give the safety point to Arai to be honest.
Great review. I preferred Shoei for a long time, and owned a few X-11s and RF-1000s (2006-2008 timeframe). I purchased my first Arai in 2019 (Corsair X) and now own 3 of them. I just recently purchased a closeout X-14. My comparison will be the Corsair X vs X-14. Both are premium, top of the line helmets. For graphics, Arai always seems to have the better graphics, especially the Japanese or Oriental themes. For overall aesthetics, the Shoei looks better because it's longer and has the rear spoiler already attached. However, Arai makes a spoiler for the Corsair X that looks really good when you attach it. Shoei still looks better overall because it's a longer helmet from front to back. Noise: both very noisy, regardless of all the technology. Price: similar. Protection: unsure because I've never crashed. Comfort: Shoei is easier to put on and isn't as snug as Arai. Visor: Corsair X is tricky and takes time to get used to. Shoei has the easiest visor replacement system in the world. Durability: both seem to last a long time. I still wear an old Shoei RF-1000 sometimes. At the end of the day, pick the one with the graphics you prefer because they're going to do the same exact thing-protect you from a crash. Or just do like I did....own at least one of each.
That is excellent and very useful comparison. You brought up some points that I noticed on my helmets but, I really wasn't taking in consideration. You are right though, like which hand opens visor makes a big difference. In Texas, I pretty much do it every time I stop.
Riding for 40 years Arai - really the only one that edges out the SHOEI in every category - would like to see Transitions shield soon Arai - would be very cool
You need to watch this video!!! Inside a Japanese helmet factory by Alberto Naska. I have used Shoei for along time but after watching this video my next helmet will be an Arai 100%. Please just watch it then tell me how you feel about Arai it's the first time there has been filming of any kind within there factory
Good comparison. I Already own the shoei NXR2. Wonderful helmet. Although the only time I hear a whistling sound is when i'm moving the with visor slightly open. With visor closed, and all vents open (I am in Malaysia. I will NEVER close them), I only hear wind noise. I can hear my cardo with no issues. On the highway the other cars sound louder than the wind. I would love to get the Concept-X too, but the NXR2 was already expensive. So I may go a more budget friendly route and pick up a HJC V10. Similar styling to the Concept-x.
@@Nueng9999 I am also in Thailand. I read recently from a racer that another rider with him had a fall while racing, it was a small fall and he died wearing an HJC. I think Arai and Shoei are way above everything else and you should never compromise for your safety. Your head only needs to hit from 33 cm to the ground or an object for you to die. Stay Shoei or Arai.
Hello. I have a Shoei NXR2 and is very good for me also for travel, the aerodynamic and the fit. I don't have an Arai but i would like to use one of it, especially for long travels.
I have Arai concept xe and really love it. Anyway I would to try Shoei as well. I am waiting for Shoei GT air3 which is currently not available in Thailand yet.
Always been a Arai guy. That said Shoei is a class brand. Currently sporting a RX 7V. The top vents on this helmet, like what you say about the Shoei, only function well in a tucked position possibly due to its racing oriented design.
I am surprise that one of youtube channel from EU tested and rated the concept x as the worst ventilation. Inside is 7 degree hotter than outside. What do you think?
06:32 every helmet is purpose built. You're comparing a track helmet built for supersport (Shoei) to a road helmet Arai. For better comparison choose similar purpose built helmets.
Because some people do a lot of highway riding. The wind noise inside of a helmet is EXTREMELY damaging to your hearing if sustained for a long period of time.
When you're in a car with windows up & radio / cd player going you can't hear other traffic ! Why would you want to hear traffic ? You say you want to hear traffic for safety ! What does that mean ? Do you mean so you can hear a car horn ? Or something else ? Im pretty sure with all helmets you will hear car horn coming at you ! Probably won't hear it from 7 miles away but 😂😂 most people don't want sound of wind in helmet when listening to music or communicating with other riders on intercom/ phone ! Or they just like peace n quiet & no noise. 🏍🕺🍹
Well, I am going to be controversial. If neither brand makes a helmet in the shape and size to fit my noggin, I am going to say neither is 'best'. And they don't. Not for me, and that is the point. If a helmet does not fit, no brand name or advertising/promotion is going to fix that. I can't even get their largest sized helmets on my head, let along see if they are comfortable. They can have all the design features, safety features, quality of construction that they want. If they don't fit, they are no good.
Shoei helmet saves Marc Marquez head from many crashes both hard and soft crashes. Shoei is already tested and many motorcycle racing like MotoGP, SBK and others are using Shoei.
Yes they do make good helmets I use one daily but after watching a video called Inside a Japanese helmet factory by Alberto Naska I have changed my mind to Arai
Watch the documentary on Arai on Isle of man and listen to what the riders have to say about the Arai during crashes. Arai hands down all the way. Feels like you're not wearing a helmet.

I like the fit of the Shoei model on my head
I own both. I find the Arai is more comfortable, but it’s close.
I always buy Shoei 👍🏻
I have have an Arai, but having absolutely nothing against Shoei. Both brands are quality.
14:20 DOT covers just the basics in terms of safety while ECE 22.05/06 is a proper safety homologation, which should be, in my opinion, the minimum required internationally.

DOT rating is a joke, they don't really do testing, if a manufacturer thinks it meets the standard they will already put the DOT sticker.
Excellent in-depth comparison. Thanks!
Very good video. I have never seen someone break down fit, noise, wind so thoroughly! Good job, sir!

Riding for 40 years Arai - really the only one that edges out the SHOEI in every category - would like to see Transitions shield soon Arai - would be very cool
If you ride a naked bike, you'd be better off with an Arai because of the shape, it's less prone to be blown around in high speed.
Great, realistic, honest comparison, Thankyou.

Its very funny because I just watched a video about shoei helmet and it's about the same, at the end it's just about preferences
@ossu2428 I currently have a Shoei but my next helmet is 100% going to be an Arai

V10 is very beautiful. But I am in Thailand and V10 is not available right now. I hope I would have some chance to ride in Malaysia.

I never understood why people want a helmet to be a noise vacuum. I deliberately chose helmets where I can hear the traffic around me for my safety.
Because some people do a lot of highway riding. The wind noise inside of a helmet is EXTREMELY damaging to your hearing if sustained for a long period of time.
He’s talking about the wind noise. Arai is just perfect.
@JTACTR trust me without ear protection they're deafening at 180, I'm on my 5th Arai helmet

Inside a Japanese helmet factory by Alberto Naska then see what you think
I see you mounted a Sena comm on the Arai. How is the fit? I hear it doesn't have speaker cut-outs in the helmet. Doesn't it press on your ears?
I used a Cardo, but with Arai, the speaker pocket is on the foam padding itself, and there is a recess area to fit it comfortably.
I would like to order Arai! Could you tell your head circumference?
61.5 cm
Thank you very much! I didn’t finish watch your video!)
You never answered the question; so, which is better???
I did, my opinion is on the end of the video.
Arai.. What is type?
do they fit inside the sprint utility box?
Both won't fit on the original Vespa Top Box or under the seat.

Only Arai
