Ya see, that’s what I don’t like about the 5-string - you don’t even use it until 3:20 into the song! The whole time it’s basically a long thumb rest. I love R&B, Soul, etc., but nowadays you gotta play a 5 (I’m a light bass guy, hate the weight) and all for a couple of notes buried somewhere in the middle eight. Oh well, it do sound good though, don’t it? I used to own a feather-light deluxe Fender P and traded it away ‘cause I thought I needed to play 5 and now I got a couple beauty 5-strings...and a sore back!! Boo hoo, right? Oh, to have my baby back, anybody know where she’s gone? Heed my cautionary tale, Boys, sometimes you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. Hold on to what you’re got - especially your basses - and don’t give it away for something you THINK is better. Maybe this applies to women too, but I tell you not a one has ever hurt as much as that classic sunburst Fender P I let slip through my fingers! I’m crying myself to sleep every night in my beer... (Someone ought to write a song about it!)
