All of our rigging we get from Hobie Cat Europe as it is of a very high quality.

Only tip I have is to use bees wax for the main sail bolt rope. That helps with hauling it up the mast.

I also put every wire on the same shackle, but I am using a bit bigger, stronger and rounder shackle so the wires have more space :)

Great vid as always Joe. Thanks for putting it together. My '85 H16 has a three hole tang on it's original aluminum mast. I've put the fore stay pigtail and shrouds through the lower hole. The trapeze cables went through the larger middle hole also with a d-ring.

That sounds right, if you check the FX1 mast video it will be more similar:

Very helpful. I couldn’t figure out how to get the old main halyard cable off (through the top of the mast) because it didn’t have a soft eye loop. So I simply took a hammer and flattened the eye just enough to get it through. Thanks!

I have a similar issue with the hard eye. Not sure yet how I'm going to get the new one on my '85 H16. I suppose I could remove the eye on the new one and use it as a soft eye as you have in the video.

Hello Joe. Your video's are well done and very informative. I'm hoping you can help with a question. I recently purchased a 1984 Hobie 16 and am setting it up for sail. The shrouds seem fairly loose. Measuring the slack, I can pull the shroud out apprx. 4.5 inches.
Without a gauge, do you have a suggestion for the amount of tension? The shroud is attached in the bottom hole of the stay adjuster and it seems any adjustment would be from the thru hull bolt.
Any information or resource would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Great Job...Very thorough and well explained...Clearly, the Euro Hobies are somewhat different from those in North America...Especially the Jib halyard...Curious to know which parts of the mast are 'stock' and which parts have been modded...

Hi Joe, gr8 video. Did you use a cut piece of an old mast to reinforce the mast where the jib block is riveted? How is that block connected? Are there rivets long enough to go through the mast? I have the block but not certain how to install it.

I just found some on Amazon and put it in my storefront. You can find some options below. It's very good to spray around the fittings to prevent the corrosion that occurs between inbox and aluminium.

Cut the mast 1m and cut sail and boom at reef point.
    Then is safer for kids?

    Hi Joe
I have a hobie21se and recently a storm in south of portugal knocked my boat down and lost my mast
The Hobie factory said the mast is not available anymore...
Any solution to put it back on water?
    Thanks Tenzin

    • @JoyriderTV

To get another mast the same length I think you would need to find a mast maker who can sell you the bare tube and then you could transplant the fittings.
The alternative would be to replace it with an aluminium Tornado mast but it would be 1m shorter so you'd need different sails.

    • @grandnavijateur3984
