    This is a Halloween Special review of the Range-Viper, Cobra's Wilderness Trooper. First released in 1990 and re-released in 1991, they are very distinctive for having a skull faced helmet. In 2000, Hasbro re-used the entire mold (both figure and accessories) to make a Rock-Viper, a very odd choice and possibly an error in name. Trivia: a Range-Viper Commander is called a "Skull Buster".

    Looking at him, got to wonder if someone at Hasbro said: "We need another Cobra figure to round out the line for this year! Gimme those spare parts. We'll call him the Range-Viper."

    Nice review. This was one of the last figures I bought as a kid, this is around the time they started using alot of bright colors (crayola joes) on all the figures, didn't care to much for that.. Thought I had a complete figure but you just showed me I'm missing his dagger, oh well.

    I like how in the cartoon, there was a female one. :) I wish that they made that version in toy. :(

    I love this figure and got into them a few years ago thus building a decent squad. The Black and Orange are very reminiscent of the first B.A.T's from 1986 in my opinion.

    Nice review! I love your collection! I wish I had these vintage Gi Joe toys. Yea, I thought it was really weird that nobody died on the Gi Joe tv show, but I had no idea that there was heavy death and misery in the comics!

    This was one of those figures that was just all over the place art and sculpting wise. There just didn't seem to be the effort put into this figure in making it a grounded character. Just another in the line of crazy looking figures that were designed just to be "cool" looking toys without any logic to them that started with quite a few odd figures in the 1987 line and expanded from there in later years. My best guess on the helmet is that it a combination of body armor and breathing apparatus that has been designed to look intimidating to lower the moral of those they are fighting. The backpack is pretty sic-fi for a trooper that's meant to live off the land and through raiding enemy supplies. Having a backpack full of electronics means that something is going to break down sooner and require repair. A simpler rucksack would have made more sense.

    i always thought that these " weird " looking Cobras where created by Dr Mindbender coz most of these new units look very Frankenstein to me :)

    I think that the reason for the bandolier and the various weapons on this guy is pretty well given in the last sentence of the first part of his filecard. ;)

      Do you mean the Blind Master fight from issue #91 ? I wasn't sure if I should include that as there is a fan theory that he survived the knife wound.

    Hey Kev, I hadn't even thought about the Blind Master... I was thinking Serpentor!

    The SAW Viper killed Quick Kick, Doc, Thunder, Crankcase, Crazylegs and Breaker I think. 6 Joes. I haven't read that depressing issue in a long time. I seem to recall Cobra being upset with the SAW Viper for doing it. Range Viper is certainly more intimidating though, that skull mask/helmet is pretty cool. Wish there was a back story to it. Maybe in later comics.

    • @formbx257
      @formbx257  9 років тому +1

      No, the SAW Viper only killed the 4 I said. Random artillery fire (from a Cobra MAGGOT) killed Quick Kick, Breaker and Crazy Legs later on in the comic.

      formbx257 When you do the SAW Viper video, you should recreate the scene with your figures (or at least tip over Doc and the others the way you tipped over Sneak Peak in this video). Also, Maggot fire did kill Quick Kick, Breaker and Crazy Legs. For some reason, my memory keeps blaming SAW Viper for all the deaths.

      formbx257 The SAW Viper also killed Heavy Metal according to the 1991 G.I. Joe Impel Trading Card.

      Its a custom figure made from a 2004 Comic 3-Pack Baroness (the legs are from the Trooper from the same pack). I put a helmet from a 2007 Cobra Trooper on her.
