The actress Chabing who plays the maid was Rosario Cooper, the former mistress of Douglas MacArthur in the Philippines and Washington. She was 14 years of age when MacArthur became involved with her in Manila. She had appeared as a romantic lead actress in Philippines films at the age of 12 in 1926.
I can't believe anyone thought this guy or Sydney Toler even resembled or acted Chinese. Warren was the best guy. He was the best actor, more believable in looks and acting.
Exacly how does one act "Chinese" ? Apparently the real Chinese audienes in mainland China thought both Oland and Toler were believable enough, since both were very popular. And Oland was more Oriental than White, as anyone not biased can plainly see
Personally I prefer the Sidney Toler Version of Chan to the Winters or Oland one. Oland looked Scandanavian to me and in fact I learned he was in fact Swedish. Winters did not look Asian in his 6 Chan Films, However Toler while not looking quite Asian For me was the Best of the 3 Actors who portrayed Chan and was in 22 films compared to 6 for Winters and 11 for Oland. ( 5 lost Oland films were believed to have been destroyed in a fire in the early 1930s).
Roland Winters does a good enough job, but Sidney Toler was a hard act to follow imo. Toler, who died the year this movie was made (1947) at the age of 72, played Chan in 22 feature films, Roland Winters played Chan in six films, while Warner Oland played Chan in sixteen.
This is an almost scene for scene remake of the 1939 movie “Mr. Wong In Chinatown” starring Boris Karloff as detective James Lee Wong (also on this TCM channel.) Both films cite Scott Darling as the screenwriter. This Charlie Chan remake has a couple of minor scenes omitted, some alterations to characters (one particular character change from a mute dwarf to a mute little boy makes the subplot they’re involved in pretty silly,) and the addition of Birmingham and Number Two Son. Watch the earlier movie, it’s fascinating to see what the differences are.
This is also as far as I'm concerned a Charlie Chan "Rip-Off", they used a "Second String" Charlie Chan. Billed as a "Crime Comedy", in short in effect a 'Charlie Chan' Parody, as well as "Mr. Wong" "Rip-Off". Somebody made a "Little" Extra $Money$ doing a "Two-Fer", if both , the "Mr. Wong" Version and Charlie Chan "Rip-Off" Version were Produced by the same Studio.
Mantan had no longer returned to the studios after serving most of WW11 in the U.S. navy.He also headed up an electronics business and spent most of the rest of his life helping black Americans learn trades and blend into society as equals. Can you display the fine record he set for his countrymen."I doubt it."
The Black guy working for Charlie Chan, Is Eddie Rochester Anderson. who went on to play & be Jack Benny's long time Valet on his T.V. show for many years.A great & funny Actor. R.I.P. Eddie for you are sadly missed.
sorry you are dead wrong..the man was Mantan Moreland from the charlie chans of later years. His addition to the series was such a dumb move.his part was so annoying. The best ones were with Warner Oland...period.
Anthony Casamassima Agree with everything you say except the inaccurate claim that Oland was the best Chan. Toler in his Fox films was by far the best, although partly this was due to the fact that Oland was hampered by inferior scripts and productions.

News Note:
Roland Winters looks the LEAST likely of the 3 Men who potrayed the Charlie Chan Character in the
Movie Films of the 1930s and the 1940s.
That lady reporter is a pain she won't leave every think up to the police ...

Do you mean Warner (Oland?). If so, I agree. He had a much nicer personality. Sidney Toler seems a little more 'sour', but still pretty good.

Col Mosby Warner Oland was Swedish.

Interesting enough: this story has been filmed alright with Boris Karloff as Mr. Wong! :)
Charlie Chan gets more and more western looking with every change of actor. I prefer the original. At least he looked Chinese. This guy is a joke.
The previous cast did a much better job.
That study is as busy as _Piccadilly Circus_ on 14th February 🤣
Another suspenseful mystery crime I love it somuch ❤❤❤❤❤

Pretty good .. The gum chewing detective besides being very good looking, distracted me with his gum chewing.
"Humorous dialogue is not very humorous" if only someone had told the dreadful Mantan Moreland that ten years before and he had taken notice.
Mantan had no longer returned to the studios after serving most of WW11 in the U.S. navy.He also headed up an electronics business and spent most of the rest of his life helping black Americans learn trades and blend into society as equals. Can you display the fine record he set for his countrymen."I doubt it."
Tommy earlier in the movies was the third son.
Worst Chan yet.
At least all the sons and daughters were actually Asian.
Kelso Aviation ..... were they the ones that got the subcontract to build the B16 1/2 ?
Orra, 53mil visualizações e 380 likes? Povo bobo. Assim não tem leitinho
thanks so much for the synopsis and the give-away of the killer--now I dont have to finish watching it--spoiler alerter
Why didn't they arrest Peggy for breaking into Chan's home?

Wow this movie was sssslllloooowwww
It was ruddy Capt Kovid at large again damn it _murderer and cruise pirateer_ 😂
Why did they pick white men and not Chinese actors to play Charlie Chan? The son is Chinese!
the cop was terrible, chewing gum, hitting women!
just like modern cops
Sandwich man:
Correction Please, Modern Day Cops in America much worse in 2020s than most Police in 1940s.
10 seconds . Door bell rings . Let the racial insensitivity begin ! We just didn't know any better .
That cop punched the killer because he killed that little boy! I would done the same!
This guy so doesn't look Chinese a little bit

How many cringe stereotypes can you cram in 2 hours
Interesting, since the film was only 68 minutes long. Which raises the question: What were you watching for the other 52 minutes?
@kevin courtney Oh well watching this is like being stuck in a Groundhog Day loop of neverending cringe, so I lost track of time and sanity.
