I clean the battery contacts with alcohol, wash out the glass globe and reflector in the bottom and fully charge the batteries with a relatively inexpensive rechargeable battery charger before reinstalling in the fixture. Rechargeable batteries are rated from 500 to 1500 recharge cycles, so the charger is worth the cost.
I am going to give this a try. I have some lights on my pool deck that are left on all year round and noticed the film covering the lens as well. Well done Russ.
I have a load of solar lights. I clean them yearly. I’ve found to clean the solar panels that I use a erazor sponge or Brillo pad to clear off the residual. Rinse with water. Done! I’ve been trying to learn how to clean them for years.
They are great accessories and the solar tech has come a long way. I have some low voltage lighting also, but honestly these work just as well and have been going for years. Just refurb them once every couple years and they'll last a long time.
@@stephainebates4020 I’ve also replaced batteries in mine. Of course some may just stop working but it’s worth cleaning the panels and changing the batteries to extend there ability to operate.

As far as I know its often the battery. If you put a new one in already did it get a good charge. Maybe leave it off a few days and let it charge. I've also read that it could just be the LED itself, although uncommon. If its an older light it just may be end of life.

Thank you Phil, good info and suggestions. Will pin this to the comments for others.

Thanks Keith. Its surely not an original idea but what I was up to so wanted to share. Very easy and fast process.

Another good suggestion. The wet/dry paper worked well for me but more people likely have brillo more readily available. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. Over the years I have tossed out many and wish I hadn’t at this point. Live and learn!
For sure. I’ll be restoring mine again this season, nothing lasts outside long term. 😆
Nice job Russ! I don't have solar lights but if I run into someone who needs to restore their old solar lights I'll show them the video!
Thanks Andy. Always appreciate your taking time to drop a comment and/or share my content. 👍
Looks great! I decided to try ceramic/glass cooktop cleaner on one of mine. It cleaned and cleared it right up.
Thanks I’ll have to try that too! Appreciate your comment.
Thanks, that is a really good tip. I will keep this in mind. 👍
Thanks Grassy Mitten. Appreciate your watching and leaving a comment. 😀
Nice video, at some point I want to get some of those solar lights for the front.

The same process works for clouded auto headlights - wet sand, polish and seal.
You know it! Surely not an original invention on my part but what I was up to in and around the lawn. 😆
Windex leaves a film, good luck for your spray to stick well
Can’t say I noticed a problem but what do you use? Rubbing Alcohol?
Sounds like you’re friends with Mare of Easttown
I must be off but not getting the connection 😐

Noted. Always looking to improve.
Fingernail polish remover works just as well and a lot less work!
I’ll try it. Maybe do an updated video. Thanks again.
Didn’t work for me but mine are older.

Easier way @sunshinecitysolarlightjamaica
Always up for new ideas.
